Dirt Candy New York Reviews from The Last Year
One of the best meals I've had in awhile! It's so hard to
One of the best meals I've had in awhile! It's so hard to find a good vegetarian restaurant, and this is definitely one I will revisit. I did the tasting which was about 5 courses. I was actually full after, which is rare for a tasting! I would definitely book in advance since this place seems to be always busy
Excellent cooking and immensely creative menu.
The celebration of vegetables here is remarkable, food is not pretentious or overly complicated, but there is some serious talent in this kitchen. They let fresh foods speak for themselves. Aromas hit you as soon as they drop the plate. Excellent service, any lover of fresh, vegetable forward meals will have a great experience here.
The service here id exceptional, and the food outstanding.
The star is so well deserved. The surprise courses are always a nice touch. This is an excellent place to celebrate a special occasion as well. The pea dish, Jerusalem artichoke and carrot donut surprises were particularly nice, and the cucumber and lasagna were also incredibly delicious. This pace also makes you feel so welcome.
One of the best meals I've had.
The tasting menu didn't disappoint on my visit and all the dishes were unique and full of flavor. I also appreciated the additional courses they added in between. The menu does change by season. The restaurant ambience is very nice and great for romantic dates or time with friends. You can also try the chef's counter if you are dining alone. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. This is a no tipping establishment, so your price includes gratuity.

A must visit in NYC - it's incredible, it's artistic and the food is the most unique dining experience. I am not vegetarian so you definitely don't need to be. The chef is committed to integrating food without affecting nature. They pay their staff well and offer benefits and don't accept tips. A fantastic dining experience!
This review is not about the food which has been great in
This review is not about the food which has been great in the past. I recently tried to get a walk in table for two for a special occasion when the restaurant opened on a Saturday night. The restaurant was completely empty but the hostess would not seat us and was very rude. I'm not sure I'll try again.
My pictures don't do it justice.
The food is exceptional. It's one of a kind. Everything is fantastic and nothing tastes likes something you'll get anywhere else. The service is top notch. Every single worker knows what to do and how to do it with just the right amount of interaction. Everything is clean. The atmosphere is engaged but conversational. Cocktails rock. I can't say enough good things about Dirt Candy. Thanks to the staff. You made our night special.
My sister made reservations for this spot after failing to
My sister made reservations for this spot after failing to get reservations at Eleven Madison Park for their plant-based tasting menu. To be honest the vegetarian menu did not excite me that much, but to my surprise the flavors of all the courses were pleasantly good. I started off with the Toadstool cocktail ($18 - shiitake infused gin, dolin blanc, thyme, hojicha ice); it really had a shiitake aroma to the gin, making this a unique umami, gin forward cocktail. The Spring Menu was $105 per person, which for the amount of food you receive and the fact that it is all vegetarian, was a little more than I think they should charge; I left the restaurant still hungry and could have eaten a whole burger after! The menu lists 5 courses [with two surprise small items not listed] - 1) a cucumber cream pie reminiscent of key lime pie, 2) a fennel bun, 3) asparagus lasagna, 4) a battered and fried romanesco (similar to cauliflower), 5) bok choy dessert - inspired by a banh mi sandwich. My favorite item was the course not listed - an artichoke top with some sort of garlic aioli cream; the portion was bite size and small, but the portions of all the dishes were pretty minimal. The Romanesco was different was good, but it left me wanting more. The asparagus lasagna could have also been bigger, but maybe the fact that all dishes were vegetarian is why nothing really satisfied my hunger. The other surprise bite not listed on the menu was a pea "boba" - just peas in a cold pea juice/soup like thing and some sort of cream bite with a wasabi pea that could have been skipped. The dessert was supposed to mimic a banh mi sandwich with a sugar baguette tuile, bok-choy lemongrass sorbet and sriracha meringue - I thought this was an interesting take on dessert and I enjoyed the slight spice. The window where we sat was extremely dirty but servers were all friendly. Overall this restaurant was interesting to try, and exceeded my expectations in terms of flavor and hearing that it is an all vegetarian restaurant. I do think the hype around this spot has caused them to raise prices (upon looking at old reviews it was $65 in 2020 for the 5 course tasting menu - now $40 more at $105 per person in 2024), which in business terms makes sense, but as a customer do not think this meal was worth $105. I left feeling hungry and craving a burger or some pork soup dumplings - this spot will be great for vegetarians/vegans, but be prepared to have a second dinner if you have a big stomach!
Each course was flavorful and new.
I enjoyed the food and ambiance. You get so much food for an unbeatable price. The staff were thoughtful and welcoming. Can't wait to go back!!

Read about this place e for years so while I was up in the city I took my brother, sister and our spouses for dinner. The imagination and creativity in the elements of the singular dishes was extraordinary. Each of us were surprised at the complexity and unusual combinations. It was a true dining experience and worthy of a 5 star rating. We were all filled to capacity and could not eat another thing. Service was exceptional and each server was well educated on each dish. They told the ingredients and how was prepared which added to the experience .
My absolute favorite restaurant! As a vegetarian in NYC
My absolute favorite restaurant! As a vegetarian in NYC there are plenty of great restaurants that I love but Dirt Candy is unlike any restaurant I've ever been to. The food is incredible. The attention to detail of the presentation of each course is amazing. I can not rave about this place enough. Also, the staff is very friendly and informative. The give you a brief description of each course when the serve it. You definitely get your moneys worth. Each course was a good amount of good . They also sneaked in a couple extra treats in between courses. Can't wait to go back!
Perfect Vegetarian Sampling Menu
Took my parents out to dinner here after coming with my husband the first time. My mom and I are both vegetarians and we loved the food. It's so nice not having to select anything from a menu and simply enjoying the 5 (to 7 - there are a couple surprise "gifts from the kitchen") courses that they bring. We in particular loved the carrot dish (gift from the kitchen) at the beginning and the dessert, which was a chocolatey date cake I think). The wine pairing was also lovely. It's spendy, but it's a great experience, especially for vegetarians. This place books out fast though, so it's important to book in advance and put yourself on the waitlist if there aren't any times available (I got in off the waitlist)
This is a fun and unique experience! I enjoyed every aspect
This is a fun and unique experience! I enjoyed every aspect of the meal but my favorite was the mushroom pastry. The service was good- they were attentive throughout the meal and were good about changing plates in between courses.
Delicious and our server was so attentive.
We had a great corner table and the restaurant was bustling on a Friday night. The tasting menu was strong overall with the onion dish being a star among veggies. Came with two friends for our birthday celebration and the restaurant made us feel special.
Take this review with a grain of salt because I prefer meat
Take this review with a grain of salt because I prefer meat and fish over vegetables any day. I have also been to many tasting menus that is not vegetarian or vegan so my expectations are a little biased. Creativity was A+ but it fell short on the execution side. It felt as if they were trying to combine a bunch of ingredients to make it seem fancy and fine-dining, but the unnecessary combo of ingredients made each individual dish overwhelming. I didn't feel full from all the courses and felt that i was still hungry after. Food: There were quite a few amuse bouches which I appreciated throughout the course (cucumber with dehydrated flakes was one). The Yuzu carrot mille fueille cake was super flakey and messy, and the cream was a bit sour. It was a savory dish, which is interesting because usually this concept would be on the sweet side. The portobello mushroom mousse was nothing to ride home about and the texture threw me off a bit. The pea ravioli with feta cheese was the best dish and executed well. It tasted like a cheese ravioli with peas. The crispy broccolini was super salty, and the broccoli became soggy due to the broth. It was like a bunch of random flavors were thrown in. The worst dish in my opinion was the burrata ice cream. The ice cream was not sweet at all and was salty. The cheese did not add anything, and it was by far one of the worst desserts I have had. I believe this place caters better towards the vegetarians/vegans because there are not many (reasonably priced) tasting menus for that demographic. however, as someone who is not a vegetarian, I would not choose this place over a different restaurant's tasting menu.

My partner and I went to Dirt Candy for the first time for their six course Valentine's Day dinner last night. I really wanted to enjoy my dinner. While not currently a vegetarian, I did have multiple periods of vegetarianism in the past and I generally have a lot of respect for people who choose a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. Further, I like the fact that Dirt Candy prides itself on paying respectable, living wages for staff and on not allowing customers to tip. Perhaps my positive attitude and initial excitement made my disappointment greater. While the service was friendly, we found the food to be quite lacking. Most dishes tasted fine, but did not feel special nor like they justified the price ($145 per person, plus tax, not including drinks). The dessert, consisting of eggplant and chocolate with yuzu granita, even though it was visually appealing, was practically inedible. Parts of it were extremely bland (including the chocolate, somehow!), and the flavorful elements did not at all go together. I left my dessert dish almost untouched, and even though the waiter noted this out loud when they took our plates off the table, they did not ask what is wrong nor whether anything could be done to amend the situation. To top it all of, both my partner and I woke up this morning feeling quite queasy and with some indigestion. The meal at Dirt Candy was the only food we shared yesterday, and so we are suspicious that it might have been the cause for our discomfort this morning. As you can tell, we unfortunately will not be coming back.
This restaurant is fantastic.
I can't believe anyone would rate this place anything less than five stars. I have traveled all over the world and have yet to find a vegan/vegetarian restaurant I have enjoyed more than this place. My wife and I chose to sit at the counter top, overlooking the kitchen. It was enjoyable watching the chefs meticulously prepare each dish. Every course brought to us was thoroughly explained by staff. Every course tasted better than the previous course. The interior also had low lighting, which set off a romantic vibe. I highly recommend bringing your spouse to this place.
Well I had been waiting for a Long time to come here and I
Well I had been waiting for a Long time to come here and I finally made it and man was it a disappointment. The food is so confused . Trying too hard to be smart and pretty , it is instead finicky gimmicky and not enjoyable . Out of the five dishes and two surprises more than half were a complete redo . The flavors were either too strong or just didn't work at all . Most of the dishes were too large as well that by the 4th one you just had a hard time . The dessert was really disappointing , basically tasted a lot like dirt with none of the candy .I was saddened. I really wanted to come out of Dirt Candy totally happy and more then satistfied and instead I will not be looking forward to Returning , which is a real Shame because I am Vegetarian and was looking to flaunt a high end vegetarian restaurant and I cannot honestly do this. The service was good The room was way too loud And the seating was ok , not very comfortable which makes the 2 hour seating feel a lot longer. We all wanted to leave way before the whole thing was over.
The Winter menu this season is out of this world! Run don't
The Winter menu this season is out of this world! Run don't walk to this amazing establishment. This was my first time eating at an all vegetarian restaurant and it was everything I could have dreamed of! Thoughtful preparations, beautiful execution, and the wine pairing was not only a phenomenal value, but spot on. All the staff were a joy, explanations, coursing, pace, were all exquisite. The Michelin star is more than deserved. The ambiance was not stuffy, but a nice evening vibe, and to know that they pay their staff well is awesome. I was pleasantly full at the end of the night.
Saturday night I had dinner at Dirt Candy.
The following Monday night I ate at the most expensive vegetarian restaurant in NYC for the second time. I'll just say it's on Madison Park - but it was no Dirt Candy. The more I contrasted the two different vegetarian restaurants the more I thought about the value of each place. In my opinion, Dirt Candy just blows away all other plant based restaurants in Manhattan and beyond. Their flavors are spot-on, their presentation is clever and it's a pleasant environment to dine in. This current winter 2024 menu was just FUN and tasty. I don't like spoiling dining experiences for others so I'm not gong to post pics and explain things. Just know that you're not eating animals and Dirt Candy is letting you have some tasty and whimsical fun. The whole staff is an eclectic professional team that displays a level of service of a much more expensive restaurant. Instead of prattling on about the alchemy of Dirt Candy's food, I can only goad you to go with an open mind and enjoy the magic of the food that will thrill your palette. It's sophisticated food with out snobbery. So, have fun, enjoy the food and then spread the word about the friendliest, tastiest and best vegetarian value meal in Manhattan. To Amanda, Jackie, Mark and all the creative staff behind the scenes, thank you for feeding us food that doesn't take a life. It's not hyperbole to say that what you do is important work.
One of my top places in nyc! Reservations: Yes definitely
One of my top places in nyc! Reservations: Yes definitely make some. We came a Tuesday night (after snowfall) and it was packed at 7:30pm. We had a table but the counter seemed pretty cool too, they could see the chefs in action. Food: As a vegetarian, this is one of the holy grails of fine dining. Each dish was carefully thought out, and we even appreciated the (free) extra courses. Each dish was different (and I will say if you like spicy heat food you won't get that here, but each dish is tasty with different flavor profiles). And don't let the size fool you, we were stuffed by the 4th plate! Loved that the last dish was dessert as well, was a great way to end the meal. Service: amazing. Not only does the staff check in on you frequently but they also explain each dish as its coming out Overall, definitely recommend checking out, especially if you are vegan/vegetarian!
Dirt candy doesn't need another great review but it is
Dirt candy doesn't need another great review but it is going to get one from me. The experience was phenomenal from the first to last dish. Didn't know what to expect but went here on a recommendation. The food is innovative and flavorful. I am not a vegetarian but love vegetables. For those who are skeptical you don't miss meat or fish at all. Service was great and we were shocked at the end of the night to find out it is not a topping restaurant. Not only wonderful food but great service This is value for your money.
Fantastic meal and experience!
Amazing meal! Our server was fantastic and the accompanying drinks were well matched! Looking forward to our next visit!
Better than Awesome!

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
