I Eat at Damian Every Time I'm in LA
The food here is outstanding, with surprising yet perfectly matched flavors in every bite. The service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is cool. While some people find it "expensive," food this creative, so well prepared, is worth it. One tip: do not skip the calmar, it's phenomenal. To each his own.

Great food and service.nice ambiance also trendy. I really like their ceviche it is delicious. Portions are small but we just had appetizers at the bar. Pricey so be prepared but worth it if you like amazing flavors.

Wow, the food was amazing. And the drinks were fantastic too! Only issue is the noise, itโs a very busy place inside and not ideal for a romantic / couple dinner. Probably better with a group of friends.

Went with a friend who is a major foodie. Most of the first courses were good but better to look at. The star of the show was the duck. Great flavor. Especially the hits at the bottom of the skillet. Server was ver quick and attentive. Desserts were also solid.

More laid back than Cosme or Pujol, Damian finds Jesรบs โChuyโ Cervantes and Enrique Olvera viewing Mexican food through a California lense with clean and concise flavors but a pricepoint so laughable that by the time they add 4% to โsupport fair wagesโ guests will already be scratching their heads wondering if a flight to Mexico City just for dinner is a better value.
Be the first to ReplyTasty. Maybe a little expensive but good
Tasty food, fun for a visit. The mescal margarita is very good. The Tlayuda is great for some extra veg but a bit hard to eat. The Meringue pudding is really good. Quite a different size than the cheesecake which is very small (and not what you will expect!)

As a fan of Mexican food, I heard a lot about this place. The food and cocktails were fantastic. Friendly staff. Would come back to try the rest.
Be the first to ReplyNothing like Pujol in Mexico City
We travel to Mexico several times a year, and have dined at Pujol in Mexico City several times. We were excited to hear that Enrique Olivera had opened a restaurant in Los Angeles. To be fair we tried it 3 times since it opened, and can now say for sure that it is not at all close to the best restaurants in Mexico (Quintinel, Pujol, Casa Oaxaca, etc.)....not at all. It appears that Enrique sold his name and a couple of hours of his time to someone else who opened and operates Damian. It is obvious that he (or anyone that he trained) is not in the kitchen, or at the facility. The good.... the decor and design is very nice, all the employees that we dealt with are friendly and nice, and the herbal guacamole is great....but that is really it. The bad....the food is very mundane... the mole's all lack flavor, the menu is very limited (but does change from time to time). Another thing to add is that it can be very expensive...we had a Quesadilla 'Suiza' that was $48.00 (and dry and tasteless) and a pork belly and rib dish (Costilas Emmoladas) that cost $79.00...this was also nothing special at all. The price of the entrees would not matter if the experience was memorable...but sadly it was not. All in all I am sure that, sadly, you will find this restaurant nothing like wonderful "upscale" Mexican cuisine... If you have dined at Pujol you will wonder how Enrique could lend his name to this place. Unfortunately in the Los Angeles area we have found only one restaurant that serves what we would consider actual Mexican food that gets close to the great restaurants in Mexico.....close but not perfect...it is a very small place in San Gabriel called Babita Mexcuisine...sometimes hard to get in but the dishes are much like those in the finest Mexico restaurants.
