Our first time back since 2019 and..... wow
Like so many we hadn't dined out in a long time and my clever husband suggested to sulky me a mid-week local pick-us-up treat. I can only say wow. We loved Ceres when we last visited in 2019 but the tasting menu tonight with matched wines was out of this world and a steal at the price. Deservedly Michelin-recognised cuisine with such a friendly and professional face (just two young women currently run the whole outfit including single handedly chef-ing and wonderful front of house). Ceres is walking distance for us and we are grateful because it is a destination-grade restaurant. Fine dining for £48pp.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing wine and food tasting evening
We went to the 3 years anniversary of Ceres, which was supposed to be a 7 wine tasting paired with 7 small dishes. After 1h30 of wait only two were served, and the wine serving was poorly synchronised with the food. No chairs to sit down either, very poor organisation. We asked the waitress if it was possible to get the next dishes earlier as we needed to leave at 10pm and we she said there was actually only 5 dishes instead of the 7 advertised. We honestly felt scammed. She also said we would not be able to take away the dishes that we paid for because the chef was stressed and busy...wow. Maybe think of that before trying to pull out a 40 people event with only one cook. But Don’t worry,"we can serve you the wine and you will be wasted!” said the waitress. An utter joke...we wont come back.
Be the first to Replygood but a bit uneven
A pretty good autumn tasting menu, with excellent wine pairing. The hake & shrimps dish combined well with pumpkin puree and greens, and was done with a nice light touch. The mushroom and chestnut fagottini was a good autumnal melange, and also well balanced. Good carrot and blackberry jus with the duck dish, but it was all just a bit too sweet. The duck itself was puzzling – served as a bit of a lump and a bit dry. It would have been good to have some carbs on this plate too, especially as bread is not on the menu! Dessert of quince and pistachio croquembouche was lovely, though we were not too convinced by the mead pairing (the other wines were brilliant choices!). The ambience felt very dead when we visited, perhaps because of staffing issues? I know it’s usually quite a lively place.

I love when restaurants get it all right; the atmosphere, nice music, knowledgeable and charismatic staff + delicious food.
The tasting menu with wine pairing is just perfect - definitely will become my go to place in the neighbourhood.
Very well done Ceres!
Delicious seasonal food executed to perfection
Delicious seasonal food. All dishes were executed to perfection and the service made the experience extra special. The Tonka Negroni is also one of the best Negronis we have ever tasted. Cérès is definitely one of the best restaurants we have been to in London.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a gem!
We visited Ceres on a sleepy Wednesday evening and were blown away by the food, service, quality, and price. This place is a gem and I would happily recommend this to any lover of fine food and wine. The attention to detail on every dish we had from the early autumn menu was excellent, and frankly for £39, I didn’t expect what we ate to be that delicious. The wines were also excellent, and the fig leaf sour cocktail again delightful. We happily rolled home. I wish there were more independent restaurants that held themselves to such high standards.

We had a lovely time at Ceres. The duck and pear dessert were absolutely superb but there was nothing on the menu that was less than good. Service was very friendly, attentive and the food came out at a steady, good pace.
We will definitely be returning in a couple of weeks for the late autumn menu. Great food at a very reasonable price considering everything that went into it.
Don't miss this GEM!!
I had the chance to attend this place with some friends and we had the best time!! The food is particularly spectacular, the service was absolutely perfect, everything was smooth and easy, just a perfect place to have a great time. Definitely going back asap. I highly recommend to not miss this place when you are in London.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely exquisite. Oysters,
Absolutely exquisite. Oysters, duck, samphire tempura, falling-apart cod, home made goats cheese and crepes suzette to die for: This really was the dinner of a lifetime. With beautifully paired wines to every dish on the tasting menu. I’ve tried the oversubscribed Perilla on Newington green - but this is a good deal better, more interesting, more original and more “heartfelt” cuisine. We worried when it was empty but I guarantee this won’t last. Hurry while you can get a reservation at a reasonable hour!
Be the first to ReplyExceptional!
This was a very special evening! We really enjoyed the tasting menu--oysters, lentils and goat's curd, cod, duck, all with beautiful tasting wines. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, we had a nice chat to the Provencal chef as well. This place deserves to be a hit. We had tried to go the more popular Perilla, and were lucky that it was full. Ceres was much quieter and the food was quite exceptional. Go and check it out for yourself!
