Beautiful view, acceptable food (but nothing special.
..) the only BIG PROBLEM was that they charged me a higher amount on my credit card! Stay away from this place!

Haven't been for awhile because it hasn't been good. Decided to get a Happy Hour beer and snack on the deck with my wife. Found prices to be raised 25% to 33%, portions reduced, and the food quality as poor or poorer than I remembered. To add to the insult, they added a "operational service fee" (what the hell is that) to the bill they already padded. Completely awful experience, other than the sweet server. This place should be left to the "over the hill" gang.
Be the first to ReplyWe visited on a Monday night and we were greeted right away.
Our server was very good and helpful. We love the atmosphere and the view was amazing. The food was ok. We had a pizza that was a special but was not very good. It was more of a store bought crust with thick cut tomatoes. I had the pear salad with chicken. The salad had way too many pears and the pears were not fresh. The clam chowder was too thick. I like mine a bit soupy. The desserts were very good. The crème brûlée and the tarramisu were delicious. We will try this place again and hope to get better options.

I recently visited Crow's Nest for the first time with a group of eight and, unfortunately, I don't plan to return. The service left much to be desired; it felt as though our plates were being cleared too eagerly, contributing to an overall rushed experience. We found ourselves finishing in less than an hour, which was unexpectedly quick and shared by others in my group as well. Regarding the food, I found it to be excessively priced. The fish tacos I ordered were underwhelming, essentially amounting to a fish fillet halved between two tacos, accompanied by a mere scoop of rice, all priced at $32. This was particularly disappointing when considering that online shows them at $19. At such a steep price point, the value simply wasn't there for me.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food.
Amazing service. We did a late lunch on vacation during the work week, got a prime seat on the enclosed outdoor seating, watched boats and the dredger. Only downfall is it was actually hot in Santa Cruz today and the sun was beating down with no umbrella, other than that, we had an amazing experience and filled up on delicious food. I've been coming to Crow's Nest since I was little with my grandparents. Now taking my kids coming with their grandparents. Food and service have always been spectacular. We enjoyed the fish and chips, kids cheese pizza, kids chicken tenders, crab and artichoke dip, and chilled shrimp stuffed artichoke. Dessert of crème brûlée, chocolate cake and vanilla bean ice cream!

Tried their "famous clam chowder" and tasted like any canned soup. Calamari ok, the crab cakes were mostly filler. Setting is nice but food only fair, which is sad because the setting is great and has so much potential. Service ok.

This review is about the upstairs bar and grill When there are 52 Sundays in a year and you go to the same place for about 45 of them for better then 10 years I think you can consider yourself a regular. That is my husband Josh at The Breakers Bar. Over the years he has had attentive, professional, friendly and basically amazing service, until about a month ago. What may have started as a misunderstanding has become a huge "thing". On this particular Sunday the regular bartenders were off and a downstairs server was assigned to Josh's table. She tried to take his drink order and he said something to effect of "everybody knows me, I've been coming here for 20 years, just tell 'em Josh's margarita". I don't know if she asked for more detail, what I do know is what I saw and heard when I walked through the bar to join Josh. The server conveyed to the bartenders the request, it wasn't her words that were offensive it was her tone, demeanor and her facial expressions. I witnessed it all. I told Josh that the server didn't much care for him and his reaction was swift and direct. When the server returned and asked what she could get him he said "a different server" there was some discussion but we did get another server. That should have been the end of it - it was not. Josh shared this story with one of his regular servers the next week - perhaps that was unwise, but what followed is OUT OF BOUNDS. The staff had a meeting and discussed the incident. The server in question slandered Josh claiming that he insulted her face and the characterization that was thrown around about Josh is that the servers need to feel "safe" and they did not. It was determined at this meeting that someone needed to talk with Josh about his behavior and comment so that the servers can feel safe. I was present at the original exchange with the server, Josh NEVER said "I don't like your face", when the server was told what I witnessed she lied saying she was talking about a different table (as if that makes the tone and negative facial expressions better) and then she embellishes the story more at a meeting instead of just owning her actions, she was caught red handed. Asserting that Josh was or is threatening and needs correcting is mind blowing. He deserves a huge apology.
Be the first to ReplyI had a celebration meal for me and my friends/family here.
Food was subpar and most of my party's meals were undercooked and cold. This place used to be better
Be the first to ReplyWe stopped in here today for lunch.
He had the Salmon burger and I had the Prime Rib sandwich. Both were good! I asked for and got it rare, which is rare, no pun intended. All the staff was courteous. I like the fact they have cloth tablecloths and cloth napkins. Feels kinda classy. They have a salad bar, which I didn't try but looks righteous. They have a pay parking lot; $1.75/ hour. Finding the kiosk to pay was tricky. It's a bright yellow box next to the gift shop. Lunch is kinda spendy, but we enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, this place has gone from a high class feel to a tourist trap. The tables seem banquet style (unstable/tippy and small) and the servers have that lackadaisical feel of many SC cafes. They still have the amazing salad bar, but the other items we ordered were only ok. Really sad to see this place slipping after all these years.

I reserved this restaurant to surprise my husband for his birthday. I called in advance and let them know that it was his birthday and to make sure our server knows this when we come in to dine. After ordering our food it seemed like our server didn't even read the note about celebrating my husbands birthday as he started asking us if we wanted to take a look at the dessert menu. I was so disappointed that they just ruined the whole surprise as I had to "remind" our server to look at the notes I had requested for a birthday dessert in front of my husband. If anyone is considering this restaurant to celebrate, find another restaurant that would actually care to do so.
Be the first to ReplyThis place takes you back in time in the worst way.
The decor is dated right along with the menu. What will bring you back to current times is the prices. The portions are huge, the staff is extremely nice, but the quality of the food is mediocre. Between the crab and shrimp melt, the ahi sandwich, and the shrimp stuffed artichoke there were a total of 0 spices or seasoning. You could get the same quality of food at probably any other cafe that serves seafood and save yourself a waste of $100 for subpar food.

I orders a seafood salad, the portion was generous but the flavor was bland. My husband had the salmon burger which was also uninspired. The location is nice with water views.

Decent food, sometimes good customer service, but other times not so good. I like to eat in front of the ocean.
Be the first to ReplyNice atmosphere and staff but the food was disappointing.
The swordfish was over cooked, the steamed vegetables looked like something from a Denny's, and the mashed potatoes were tasteless. My prime rib was just ok, but came with the same crappy sides. The restaurant lives on it's location, but the food needs to be better.

Be the first to Reply3 stars for seating and effort.
Servers are nice enough but fall short on service. When you have to ask for cutlery and a refill from the bus staff because your server is nowhere to be found (we weren't in a rush but ya need spoons to eat soup and we'd asked for a refill at least 15 minutes prior). Getting a seat at the window (we reserved earlier) was a delight (3 stars). The food was just ok. Flavors in the steamed clams were spot on but clams were chewy, serious blunder. If you can't steam them correctly, take them off the menu. Same with the clam chowder, clams are meant to melt in your mouth. This place to too pricey for these kind of miss steps. The fish and chips (not on the menu but you can order off menu) the flavor, again, nice put the fish was thin and the outside a but over fried but still ok. The biggest disappointment was the crab and shrimp melt. If you're going to charge $28 for a sandwich it should be outstanding. This was not. The crab was salty and not fresh ( it's crab season guys c'mon!!) The shrimp was fair but overpowered by the canned crab salt. Here's the most upsetting part.... One whole side of this sandwich was like it had sat in some kind of liquid. Literally could wring the bread and it was just mung!!! I was full and just picked the bad side off to make half a sandwich, so I didn't voice my concerns. However, these miss steps and my husband was never asked if he'd like a second beverage, shouldn't go without notice. Very expensive mediocre afternoon. We now remember why we hadn't been back in a few years.

Very very slow waiter service, but great food and ambiance! We were sitting downstairs and downstairs menu was missing some obvious things that you can get on the upstairs menu, but we managed to order them anyway
Be the first to ReplyMade reservations for 11 people for my birthday.
Service was awful!! Waiter took our order, then brought our beverages after a while. Food was warm, with no flavor. Waiter never returned to pour water or ask how our food tasted. Waited took forever to bring our check, that included the tip. Would not have given a good tip as we were so not happy. Table next to us had a couple having a terrible argument with "F Bomb" used more than needed. My grandchildren got an earful as it was loud. Have been customers of the Crow's Nest for over 50 years, and will not be returning. So sad, as it was my favorite resturant. I wanted this night to be special as my daughter came from out of state to have her favorite on the menu....Tempura Prawns. They were not good as they used to be the best!!! I don't know why the Crow's Nest is going downhill.....
Be the first to ReplyService was good.
..server didn't write down the order for a table of 5. Even tho I said "dressing on the side " and he repeated it it arrived soaked with dressing. Hardly any chicken that I paid an extra $8 for. It was terrible and because I was with a group of people I didn't want to make a big deal about it. 2 it's others weren't satisfied as well with their meals. We felt sorry for the server and didn't want him to get in trouble if we complained. Also we had reservations for 7:15 and didn't get seated until 8 pm. The hostess staff was young and could have cared less...carrying on personal conversations with each other while a lot of people were seated or standing waiting to be called. It will be a long time before we return there to eat.

Food is diner quality. Ambiance is nice though.

We made a reservation for my moms birthday (First family gathering in year's ) so we wanted this night to be special. Waitress Abby was friendly and good customer service. My issue was with the quality of food : My dads clam chowder was cold and I asked for a warmer soup, My steak was medium rare when I asked for medium well., veggies were frozen, my nieces chicken tenders were obviously microwaved, my nephew's pizza was undercooked or microwaved. This place used to have better quality years ago and sadly we won't be coming here again we paid almost 500 for this night only for every one to be disappointed with food. The only good thing this was Abby and the Oysters
Be the first to ReplyHorrible! THIS IS FOODIE SANTA CRUZ! We know how seafood is
Horrible! THIS IS FOODIE SANTA CRUZ! We know how seafood is supposed to taste and what crap tastes like. So do the owners. The steak was tiny, chewy, and overcooked. This writer had Lobster Thermador. Taste and texture were like having a premade frozen dish. The menu states it suppose to have Scallops, Crab, and Shrimp. No exaggeration, NOT ONE SCALLOP in the dish. I didn't even find a tiny piece of a bit of scallop. I am being generous when I write that it had less than a tablespoon of pre-cooked crab stirred into the dish. There were six very tiny COCKTAIL SHRIMP in each and some SHRIMP BITS. We both counted the tiny cocktail-sized shrimp. The parmesan cheese used in the Seafood Thermador had the consistency of the type sold in a plastic shaker, not the kind you grate as you go. This is easy to spot because this parmesan cheese did not melt into the sauce--parm gravel consistency. Another had scallops. A $30 dish that had SIX previously frozen scallops of the size you find at Costco in the frozen seafood section sold in bulk or a Chinese Buffet in San Jose. Thus, each small, not medium, not large scallops cost $5. We knew that they were previously frozen and were still wet when they were cooked because there was absolutely no crust or char on either side, and all were very chewy from being overcooked. The menu stated the dish came with Jasmine rice. The rice looked like white long-grain and tasted like it too. It had absolutely no flavor. I wondered if the rice was purchased premade. We would have returned the food and walked out if we were not celebrating a special occasion. Growing up here, we celebrated every milestone at Crow's Nest. I still remember what I had the evening of June 6, 1979, for my high school graduation meal--I ordered my go-to, "Surf and Turf," with a sirloin steak and very large, perfectly cooked medallion scallops with a beautiful crust and baked potato and broccoli crowns. Some of you reading this remember that entre. Never ever thought I would say, "I WILL NEVER BE BACK!"

We went upstairs to the Crow's Nest Bar and Grill and it was great. Service was excellent and the food was tasty. It is a great place for kids to eat as well since they gave crayons and a large coloring page. It was nice to sit near the water and watch the boats, seagulls and sea lions. I would highly recommend The Crow's Nest Bar and Grill for casual dining.
