I was sadly disappointed
I was kindly taken by my host and looking round the restaurant it seemed this was the case for most on a busy lunchtime service. The restaurant is discreetly located and upon entry i was excited when i saw the fresh fish display and menu. I was particularly excited as my previous favourite restaurant "J Sheekey" had recently declined and i was hoping this would become my new favourite London restaurant. The place was "packed" which is usually a good sign for a restaurant. The only downside was that it was impossible to hear my colleagues. With skate wings on the menu i happily ordered. My host also ordered some wine to match the fish which, wanting to impress, was expensive. They arrived promptly and the waitress poured the grenobloise sauce over the perfectly cooked wing and this is where things started to go wrong. Skate and capers go together like bread and butter. However, the first mouthful almost took my breath away - the level of salt was overpowering. The same fate had befalling the green beans and dauphinois - not sure if the chef had a salt deficiency on this particular day. Either that or he had not tasted his offering. Knowing most were there as the guest of their business host, true feedback might be a little thin. It seemed this was more a place to do business than a culinary highlight. The levels of salt also destroyed the wine that was selected. In fact i stopped drinking the wine as the clash between that and the salt was too difficult to bear. Instead i drank nearly 1ltr of water. When asked by the waitress, i politely indicated that everything was "fine" not wanting to offend my kind host. I left as much as i could without offending him including the wine and thanked him for his hospitality. The coffee whilst passable at least took the coating of salt from my palette. I was truly disappointed which was heightened considering the expectation upon entry. Sadly, my search for a replacement for J Sheekeys continues......
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the price
Passable food but entirely forgetable, and for the money that really isn't good enough. Ravioli starter was fine, but bland and not very interesting. Steak main was again passable, but was underseasoned and not cooked as ordered. Signficiantly better steaks avaliable in the City for less money (try Blacklock). Service was poor, had to wait ages to take a drinks order and then were very slow to come. Do not visit unless on expenses, and even then you can do better for your money. It feels like one of those places where "the price is the point", it really doesn't have anything special going for it other than being expensive. However, it has had this reputation for years and it seems to be doing fine, so I would not expect anything to change.
Be the first to ReplyGood restaurant in great location
Good restaurant with tasty food in a great location with very nice views. Suitable for a nice private and business evening.
Be the first to ReplyNice place but too rushed
I am sure this would be a lovely place in the summer as it has really lovely outside areas. We booked before Christmas and were given the very late time for lunch of 2.45. We were disappointed to receive a text at 2.15 telling us that we'd have to order straight away as the kitchen closes at 3.15pm They really should not have accepted our order for 2.45 that being the case. This is a top priced City restaurant. However, we all felt so rushed that I would not go there again. Having said that, the bar area was very nice for a drink in the evening.
Be the first to ReplyIt was a Turkey!
So disappointed on my first visit. I ordered as is the season, the Turkey Christmas special. Rolled Turkey, looked processed and was completely tasteless. I was a guest so couldnโt send it back.
Be the first to ReplyNice atmosphere but poor vegan options
Having been to this restaurant before as a vegetarian, I was excited being able to secure a last minute reservation for a dinner with a friend. I started off with their vegan burrata starter which was surprisingly very nice. Vegan cheese is often a disappointment but this was very similar to the real deal. This was their only vegan option. For main course I ordered their again only vegan option, the aubergine. I was shocked to read that it was only 250kcals when the rest of their mains were 1000-2000kcals but as I had already committed it was my only option. It was a mini aubergine cut in half with some tomato sauce and vegan mayo/yoghurt on top of a tiny portion of courgette spaghetti. It was extremely disappointing to be served this next to my omnivore friend who received a nicely sized portion of steak and chips. This was at best a poor vegan starter and did not constitute a main course, or the price for one. If it wasnโt for the atmosphere, service, and wine selection, this would be a 2 out of 5. Everywhere else has caught on and generally provides actual meals for vegans, I believe the bare minimum could be a vegan burger with chips. Not a grilled aubergine with ketchup. Please provide more options and scrap the aubergine.

First the good, the restaurant is well presented with a nice atmosphere. The food was also very good and the 4 of us enjoyed a nice evening on a round table which always helps the conversation. The not so good, for a bill of over ยฃ500 the experience was somewhat lacking. On arrival we were asked if we would like to have a drink at the bar which we confirmed, we were led and seated at a table right next to the bar which appeared well staffed. After having been studiously ignored by the bar staff for over 5 minutes we decided to leave and seek our table, in doing so I half expected we may be approached as to why we had left, they saw us but no contact. The service for the meal was mixed, as an example, I was asked if wine was to be served immediately I advised no as we wished to finish our G&T, the Waiter insisted that I at least tried the wine and poured a small measure, before I had even put the glass to my lips off he went to place the wine on ice in a bucket far removed from the table??? Also if the policy is to 'hide' the wine it is essential attention is paid to refill as required, not the case here refills had to be requested every time. I was going to award 3 stars but that would not have been fair on a young lady called Chillie? who appeared to be the junior partner in the waiting team but was the only one who exhibited any real quality of service, thank you Chillie and apologies if I have spelt your name wrong. Would I return - Possibly.
Be the first to ReplyNot bad but not worth the hype either
This is a review for a couple's dinner. The food is good overall, the tuna carpaccio and lamb in particular were very tasty. The veal on the other hand was a bit chewy. The view is good, but here is why this is only a 3 star review: - ordered two mocktails at 6.30pm to be told 10 minutes later that one had already run out (it shouldn't be the case that early in the evening) - the mocktails arrived way late, between starters and mains (so we started our meal with just water) - the room was extremely noisy despite being sat in a corner table - cover charge was added to our bill without us even being notified of this in advance - the lifts to go up and down the restaurant are awfully slow and small, which means you can wait a while where there is a queue
Be the first to ReplyRip off!!!!
Obviously the setting is amazing in the summer, but the restaurant is a joke. ยฃ40 for a 300g Sirloin, they are buying these in at ยฃ3/ยฃ4 max, ยฃ81 for a bottle of Rosso Poggione, ยฃ14 on high street. I understand staff costs, rent, rates etc......... But this place just takes the p155. Add on Cover charge and 15% service.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently good .. consistently expensive for what you get โฆ
Consistently good .. great setting , great vibe , good staff ..silly money for what you get though .. I just had the smallest Coq au Vin imaginable .. all of it would have fit in the palm of my hand . ยฃ32 lol ! Will go back though as itโs a proper City long lunch venue โฆ

The food was of poor quality. Not the Coq d'Argent as I know it!!!!! Lamb shank had no flavour, Escargot did not taste the same, Mash potato taste like it was microwaved. Can someone confirm if this high end, classy restaurant as I use to know it; is now under new management. My colleague and I was extremely disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyWouldn't visit again!
Came here for lunch with a friend. No views from the restaurant! The service was absolutely atrocious. Ordered water and was asked if we wanted ice and lemon which we said yes to. Water arrived with no ice or lemon. Ordered a red wine but my friend wanted to speak with the somelier to get a recommendation for white wine. . We kept asking the waiters as they passed. Our starter arrived and we still hadn't seen the somelier. He finally arrived aver 30mins later. At this pont we still didn't have any ice or lemon for our water!. When our mains came we asked again for the ice and lemon and eventually it arrived!!!! The service was VERY slow and we ended up staying over 3 hours (table only reserved for 2 hours accorng to website). Over zealous waiters recommending all the extras we should add to our meal (surprise surprise). When the bill came we had been charged twice for the starter. When we queried this a young waitress told us that as we had ordered a sharing starter for 2 people that is why it was on the bill twice!! ยฃ80 for starters with a total bill of ยฃ230!!!! We said we wanted to speak to the manager as we were not happy with the service having to wait for the wine, ice and lemon or to be charged twice for the starter. When the manager came over he presented us with a new bill and said he had taken off the service charge as though he was doing us a favour! The bill had been amended as a set 3 course menu which it should have been all along! We should have argued for a glass of wine to be removed too but we just wanted to get out. So be careful and always check your bill as we could have ended up paying over double for our meal had we not had cause to complain in the first place. My friend rated this place which is why we booked but I certainly will not be visiting again. I don't mind paying for a decent meal but this was outrageous. As the saying goes all fur coat and no knickers :) So many better venues in London with much better views and more extensive menu!
Be the first to ReplySuperb lunch in cosy surroundings with splendid views over the City
After the classic car event at the HAC I took my wife for lunch here as a change from our usual. The views from the roof terrace are spectacular. Because we are of a certain age I asked for a table in the quieter section of the restaurant and I would recommend the area to the right of reception as you enter from the lifts. The coq au vin for lunch was delicious. I was somewhat surprised at the prices for wine by the glass; but then I guess the location commands high rents that must be funded. I would certainly return, probably with a party of six to share wine by the bottle which I guess might be a better option. The whole atmosphere is a wonderful experience I can thoroughly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyIntestinal track in prawns!
Very surprised having ordered prawns for a first course to find that the intestinal track had not been removed - really not good enough for a restaurant that aspires to the quality of Coq d'Argent. Disappointing and really a schoolboy error.
Be the first to ReplySuperb
Wife and I wanted to eat outside hoping for a view. There is a view but its in a 'garden' patio. There are no tables in that area. Outdoor tables are protected from breeze (it was a chilly evening) but have no tablecloths. And no view. They happily changed our reservation from outside to inside. Beautiful restaurant. Attentive staff. Great food. We started with bread and sparkling water. Our appetizers were very well made. My 6 escargots had 2 empty shells. They apologized for this by bringing me a new order, for free. They gave me a dozen in the complimentary dish to make up for the error.. So, I had an appetizer of 16 escargot!! Main courses: wife's veal was perfectly cooked and perfectly tender. Excellent vegetables and sauce. She could not finish it. My coq au vin was also perfect, but because of the huge appetizer, I could not finish. We took home a couple of 1/2 size main courses for our hotel room fridge. After the check, a waitress brought us 3 complimentary chocolates. One of them fell off the dish onto the floor. She left the 2 remaining and brought us 3 more! Everything exceeded our expectations. Anthony was an excellent waiter.
Be the first to ReplyDunstable Downs Rotary Club , presidents meal
Had an excellent meal yesterday with our Rotary club, Had the chateaux Brian ( fillet steak) the only thing was that the tables had been changed and the person I was sharing with was on a totally different table! I received no chips, no gravy and no sauce! Other people on the table had the same so I shared theirs! Did not complain or realise but when I got home felt hungry! I did notice the other table left nearly all of a portion of chips. I have a paralised arm and it is not McDonaldโs so was not feeling right getting up taking food from another table! The French fries were delicious! Shame I only had about ten! Please bear this in mind if it happens again to other parties as it is so wrong! I have got a tongue and should of said something but it was only when finished I realised, I gave you an excellent review but this is a comment I thought of after!
Be the first to ReplyJust superb
I had to write a review as the service was just superb. Matthew went out of his way to treat every single guest as royalty. Quite difficult when it was so busy on a Saturday lunchtime. We all had such a lovely lunch. I canโt recommend enough. The manager also was delightful and attentive. It was very warm and they ensured every guest had a glass of iced water at all times. We will certainly be returning.
Be the first to ReplyA little tired
I imagine this place was a wow in its day - I remember my parents going there! Still could be wonderful it just needs a little updating. Nice & shady for a pit stop drink on our way home after the jubilee celebrations. Service was good when you found someone!
Be the first to ReplyHow bad can you be and still survive?
A very disappointing lunch to put it mildly. Many items on the menu were not available (including the dish of the week and it was only Tuesday), the service was very slow and erratic, items ordered never came, and the mustard requested took so long to arrive that the meal was nearly over. The final straw was a steak ordered rare came all but well done when it finally arrived and showing signs of it having been heated again. To judge by the amount of plates dropped by staff in both the restaurant and the kitchen all is not well here and I would recommend going elsewhere to eat if you care about what your experience.
Be the first to ReplyVery good business dinner
If the weather is good, then Coq d'Argent comes into its own as you can sit outside. The food is excellent - with high prices to match. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that service was patchy. It was very good during the dinner, but quite slow during our pre-dinner drinks on the terrace (with the waitress coming back and forth for each individual champagne glass and the champagne bottles waiting on the side, not in ice buckets).
Be the first to ReplyExcellent meal all-round.
17-Mar Coq D'Argent. My second visit to this restaurant, and another excellent meal. My starter of teriyaki octopus with houmous was an unusual but fantastic flavour combination. My cote de veau main course was more traditional but very good indeed. Pain d'epice dessert rounded off the meal nicely. Service was seemlessly slick throughout. I'll definitely be back for another visit.

Service needโs improving.
Attended Saturday with my family starter was average we was waiting for main we order tomahawk to share and I believe the way they have service set up needโs improving they send the food from kitchen to restaurant on a bar without heating lamps and then when a waiter is ready they pick it up and brings it to the table thatโs way I believe our main was cold . ๐ฅบ๐ฅบ๐ฅบ shame because was a very nice quality meat .
Hope they can improve their service is a very nice place .
A successful treat night out.
My wife and I enjoyed a lovely meal for 2. Starting with winter negronis on the heated terrace, before being collected and taken to our table by the matradee
The food was generous and perfectly cooked. My lamb shank couldn't have been better and my wife's octopus starter and grilled fish main were expertly crafted, packing a lot of flavour. The spinach side was over-salted (as professional chefs often seem to do).
The whole team there are fun, friendly and slick. Ricardo, our sommelier very knowledgeable, stopping by to give us tasting notes and a general education in wine. Really enjoyed the entry-level Chilean cab sav.
Negatives: There was a serving station near our table with plates piling up, and being scrapped etc. You wouldn't really expect that in a posh restaurant. Inexplicably, they haven't taken their Xmas decs down on the terrace (surely they won't be there all year? - not a classy look guys! ).
But a lovely meal regardless.
Absolutely amazing
From the moment we entered until the moment we left, it was an incredible experience. The service was amazing, the food and drinks were amazing. Definitely coming back.
10/10
taking client out to Coq D'Argent
perfect service
perfect location
food below standard
wines leave much to be desired
1. Very good service.
2. Very good location.
3. Food and wine were not as good and worse than expected at a restaurant of this class.
Salmon to start: tasted like one I get from Tesco, had higher expectations
Braised red cabbage seemed a little old.
Ice- cream and tarte tatin โ both simple, low quality
Stone bass was acceptable
Wine โ all what was offered was not impressive, simple, unsophisticated
Menus given out to clients looked dated
