Had an enjoyable night with friends here.
Always a fun time. Make sure you show up on time for your reserved time slot, and wait in the standby line outside the door.

We went on a Saturday night without reservations to the 8:45 show. If you don't have a reservation, then you stand in the standby line about one hour ahead of Showtime. Then, depending on how many people don't show up for their reservation, they let in a certain number of standby people. We lined up at 7:30 and just barely made it in.. maybe 15 people ahead of us. This place is a well oiled machine... From the standby line to the drinks and service. Everything moves very efficiently. Our comics were hilarious and pretty different from each other... none of them really did crowd work, not sure if that's common or not. I will say.. they jam you in this basement. It can be very difficult to get out of your seat to go to the bathroom so keep that in mind!
Be the first to ReplyMaybe the only NYC comedy club the legends still come to.
Super crowded. Don't miss it

My friends and I wanted to check out a show but didn't buy tickets in advance because of potential scheduling issues. The standby ticket situation was a winner for us! We got to put our names on a list, grab a drink around the corner, then got right in for a 10pm show. The seats we got were a bit awkward for your average person, but especially for me given I was dealing with a back injury but I ask to be moved so I won't fault them too much for that. We got the side of the stage because they were standby tickets but still totally worth it! The show was great, we enjoyed the variety of sets. Bonus, the chips and blue cheese were a tasty snack. It's definitely worth trying to get in without tickets and if you can't, there is plenty to do in the neighborhood! No phones were allowed so there are no photos to share.

We had so much fun at Comedy Cellar! We saw a show at the Village Underground (there are 3 other rooms) and I was taken back with how big the room was. We arrived about 30 mins early and had to show our ID at the door. The guy checked us in and gave us our table number which was written on a white envelope. Once we were inside we were instructed to place our phones and smart watches inside the envelope until the end of the show. From there we were led downstairs to be seated. The seating is a mix between really tight and spacious couches which I assume is for bigger parties. There is a 2 item minimum and the servers are quite efficient. I really enjoyed the experience and recommend booking the tickets online in advance.

What a fun and enjoyable experience! Waited in line for about 20 minutes before the show. There was a line. We checked into the front, and we had to put our phones in a bag, then entered down the stairs into the space--very tight and snug. Service is stellar, and the staff are so kind. Line up was hilarious and poked at the front row. Great thing to do while in NYC! I would definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyHilarious and interactive experience.
Will definitely go back when we visit NYC again

What a fun night! Best comedy in town!! The check in process Is a bit weird but the show is fantastic
Be the first to ReplyOur entire lineup was amazing, but to see both Colin Quinn
Our entire lineup was amazing, but to see both Colin Quinn and Ronny Chieng was such a dream, I can't even begin to describe how excited we were! But I'm not reviewing the comedy, I'm reviewing the venue, which was such an incredible space. It's very old school, I loved the Sinatra playlist, and I liked that it felt like a hide away; a sort of sanctuary for the depraved. Our waitress was fantastic, very nice and made sure we weren't ever waiting on her -- we mostly came for the comedy and beer, but we did have a few small bites that definitely fit the aesthetic. Everything was adequate to enjoyable! Absolutely a great time out in NYC

We had so much fun at our visit last week! We visited on Tuesday night, and there was a lineup of 6 or so comedians. I'd ordered tickets a few weeks prior. Be aware that in addition to tickets, there's a 2 drink minimum. We chose a pitcher of sangria, and my daughter ordered their chocolate cake. Everyone was pretty packed in. Initially we were placed in the front row, but we requested to be moved and it was no problem. We enjoyed all the comedians, although we definitely had our favorites. So glad we experienced the Comedy Cellar!

If you don't enjoy this place then you have no taste! Great club also the "Passion & Heat" is one of my favorite cocktails EVER!

m. show and was surprised that it was so packed! The tables are very crammed together and you can't move the set up if you are seated in a strange position but overall it is a really cool experience. The setting feels more intimate and the comedians interact with the audience (especially if you're sitting in the front). They make you put your phone away and get a two item minimum (food/drinks). I thought the nachos were delicious but the pineapple martini was a real miss.Definitely a fun night out in the city and had some great laughs!
Be the first to ReplyEveryone was SO funny! Even the host.
Great and fun night. If you want try to try to walk in because the show is sold out I would go there about an hour to and hour and a half before your desired show time. Shoutout to the security guards, they were so nice and recognized me and my friends from the previous night!! Food was surprisingly good as well, but I would eat before just because it is more of appetizer menu.
Be the first to ReplyA small little venue in the village hosting comedy shows
A small little venue in the village hosting comedy shows everyday. They have tickets online that u can reserve ahead of time... but if ur not able to u can show up 30 min before the show and get in the standby line. The bouncer gave us the skinny about lining up around the corner. Got a small table in the corner. They have a two drink minimum but that's standard at most comedy clubs. The drinks were okay... the food was alright. The show was good though... I liked 3 of the 4 comics. It was a good night out and about.
Be the first to ReplyFirst of all, this was a definite miss.
The show was not great as the humor was inappropriate as some of the comedians were using their insecurities to bully my friend. The music was decent so I will give credit where it is owed. However, I came here for comedy on my last night and was disappointed. The server was extremely rude and didn't pay attention to our table or fill our water glasses. I do not recommend this club because it was an unpleasant overall experience. I would have rather spent my money and time elsewhere. I will probably never come back as this was a completely frustrating experience.

Wow we went last night and it was soooo good! The show was so funny! I've been to comedy shows with bigger names and didn't laugh nearly as much. What a great time. The coolest thing is, we were in the area to go to another place but it turned out to be closed. So then we turned the corner and saw the comedy cellar. I knew the name, of course, and we got in a standby line to get seats if no one showed up for their time. We waited for about 3 minutes and a guy came and said that there were showings for the next show at 12:30 am. So we followed him around the block to see the back entrance where they let us in! It was two item minimum and the tickets were 25$. Well worth the price and the two item minimum is easy to meet with drinks as cheap as 7$. At the end of the show they give you your bill and you pay and the waiter stamps your receipt so that you can get out. I thought that that would take a long time, but it was really quick. With all that we were out of there in ten minutes. Oh by the way the show was long and hilarious and we saw 7 acts which was a good thing! Even the mc was hilarious! He may have been the best one. His ability to interact with the crowd and tell jokes right off the cuff was impeccable! They also make you put your phone in a mailed bag that you get to hold onto so that there is no recording, so I have no pictures but it was very fun!!

Was here for a show for a couple of times and highly recommend an online reservation well ahead of time. Even then, we don't such a great table in this narrow basement club. Prior to that, on another night, we were in the standby line and didn't get a table. The hosts at the front door are not friendly at all, a little too rough with the way they treat people. Not that helpful for first time bookings. The club itself has a small stage on this narrow room. It's pretty much in your face comedy. Because of the layout it's hard to see the stage unless you are super close. Lots of people were turning their necks to see the comedian. There is a two drink minimum; our server was nice and quick. The show was about 90-120 minutes with lots of different comics. Our Saturday night lineup was not that funny; one guy out of the six gave us a couple good laughs.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is one of if not the most prolific comedy club
This place is one of if not the most prolific comedy club on earth. It's important to note that there are three rooms.MacDougal Street: the original room that you are probably familiar with and the best one in my opinionVillage Underground: Solid venue that is a little bit larger I think and rivals MacDougalFat Black Pussycat Lounge: haven't been but usually last to sell out.The comics are always solid and entertaining. Do they bomb sometimes, sure. Do they blow you away sometimes, definitely. The real allure is (especially at MacDougal Street) you can get top level comedians just walking in to do a set and try out material. It happens time to time but not something to expect.Overall the experience is great and it's a good hiatus from the hustle and bustle of NYC. The place is very well run and operates efficientlyFive things you should know before you go:1. They put your phone in a pouch for the show, if that is a problem for you don't go. Also if you can't stay quiet don't go. If you sit in the front row expect the comedians to interact with you.2. They have a two item minimum that can include decent food and good drinks. For budget friendly folks you can get fries for $5 and other small items for cheap. Cover varies from $14-$25 in addition to that per person.3. Make a reservation well ahead of time. I check all the time and sometimes stuff pops up. If you want to go on a weekend book weeks in advance. You can also standby in a line outside but be prepared to get there very early and potentially leave without a seat. 4. There are a lot of cheap eats nearby. I've done a mini food tour with Chickenhawk hot chicken, Doner Kebab, Pizza, Belgian Fries etc before and was cheap/fun.5. Remember servers have a hard job here. They have to not only serve a big room crammed with people but also have to verify item min are met and stamp all checks before you leave.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely a worthwhile experience! Prices felt reasonable
Definitely a worthwhile experience! Prices felt reasonable given that the show itself was free. With a drink and a side at around $20, the cost felt more than fair for a night of entertainment.Having us keep our phones in the bag felt excessive on entry, but you quickly forget once's the standup begins. The lineup was a mixed bag. Some were an absolute hit and had the entire cellar laughing. Great stage presence and got the crowd involved. Others I felt repeatedly leaned on an easy target to pick on as a crutch. This would've been fine if it weren't the same target beat down back to back in different sets. It may have just been that I wasn't their target audience, so make sure to preview the lineups in advance for the best experience. All in all, the highs outshined the lows and I walked away with a great night with friends.
Be the first to ReplyThe comedy was pretty good but the food and drinks were mid.
The chocolate cake was not good but the chocolate shavings on it were.
Be the first to ReplyGood stage, great talent, abusive and rude staff.
I imagine they get their fair share of knuckleheads being a comedy club in New York but that doesn't excuse all the stupid sh*t they do for no reason. Two item minimum? In current year? Bad enough by itself but they'll also just throw it away instead of packing it or offering a bag at the end of the show. There's homeless people all over the place right outside the venue, tossing food that could go to people in need that no one even wanted to buy in the first place is unconscionable. They also need to get over themselves with their stupid phone policy. I'm not going there to tape Mark Normand read off the nuclear launch codes. All in all, it beats staying home and staring at a wall but the comedy scene in the city would be better off without itEdit: The door guys are usually cool but I guess I caught a bad rotation tonight. gonna start taking down stars every time they give my seat away to randoms.

Highly recommended! Great entertainment at reasonable price!
Be the first to ReplyIt's a hit or miss.
.. you could get lucky with some great stand up acts or some really mediocre content. The demand is high and there is usually a big queue outside. Needless to say the place has low quality food and drinks but ofcourse we are there for Comedy. You do pay a cover charge $25 per person but are also expected to order minimum two things from the menu. Lands up being an expensive affair for less than an hour worth of entertainment.Your check includes the cover charge plus what you order from the menu, be careful and tip on what you were served, you need not tip on the total amount. Again it depends on the content and line up of stand up comedians... your experience can be yay or nay.

We came in and they decided we were too loud even though we were quiet the whole time. They did not appreciate the fact that we were laughing at the comedians jokes. Honestly, it's good enough, they however made it bad
Be the first to ReplyMy friends and I came expecting a nice comedy experience.
ย What we found was a staff more worried about minimizing conversation (in which we were talking about how much we enjoyed the joker) and eventually got kicked out. This was immediately after we asked for clarification on what the expectation was for if and when we can talk. Our waitress was great. Never realized a comedy club would discourage engagement and appreciation of the comedians.
