Citrin Restaurant Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year

This review is for Glass Off which is Citrin's version of Happy Hour. We sat at one of two small tables in the bar area after, after politely requesting from the hostess. The Glass Off menu is very good- caviar egg at a steep discount; delicious salad, crudo, a fabulous burger and of course the option to choose from Citrin's regular menu a la carte. I've never understood the lobster bolognese because why would you pair marinara sauce with lobster but somehow I ordered it anyway. There is no champagne on the Glass Off menu; the lovely glass I ordered was $38. Initially our service was exquisite but about halfway through, our table was staffed by people whom I think were either bussers or normally work the back of the house which was a rather jarring change. Fabian (not a busser!) was kind but I was beyond shocked when I asked for mingardines and he said, 'what is that?' To his credit, he brought us a small, lovely and delicious post dessert treat. I highly recommend Glass Off but keep in mind when going to 'happy hour,' at a Michelin restaurant, it could easily (and did) run to $150+ per person.

Food was great! We opted not to do the tasting menu and honestly thought it was the better option. I would say we spent the same amount as we would've had we done the tasting menu, but we were able to choose dishes that we wanted to try + a better cut of meat (I believe we did the prime rib eye). Service was amazing and they were so accommodating for my boyfriend's birthday. Thoroughly enjoyed this dinner. Lovedddd the caviar and bread!

Disappointing My wife and I have had dinner several times
Disappointing My wife and I have had dinner several times at Melisse (2-star Michelin), which we thoroughly enjoyed. So, we were very much looking forward to trying Citrin (1-star Michelin). We even booked a hotel in Santa Monica that was within walking distance. As a reference, we have experience with many starred restaurants in CA, and elsewhere. Unfortunately, Citrin was a profound disappointment. Melisse has moved to a separate, much smaller part of the building. The Citrin space now includes a bar. The restaurant was busy, and the bar quite noisy. We choose the $165 four-part menu, with two wine pairings, the regular one at $100 and the premium one at $200. These prices are higher than average, and portions were small. The food was generally good, except the unappetizing lamb dish that had a bigger than normal chunk of fat. The wines were especially disappointing, with variable quality and minuscule servings. Worse, the service was uneven. Synchronization between dishes and wines was poor. I even had an argument with the server who said that the "Fleurie" beaujolais wine to be paired with the turbot fish was a white wine. This was obviously wrong when poured, but speaks to the training and competence of the staff. The Dry Creek cabernet was pretty good, but the tone was that this wine was so rare that I should be grateful to get the last few drops in the bottle. Overall, this was overpriced and totally lacking in the special touch expected of a 1-star restaurant. We will not go back.
Famous for a reason.
Incredibly beautiful food and delicious decor! Glass hour / happy hour is a wonderful way to meet an old friend or have a drink before a show at BroadStage. Queen Bitch drink! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and of course refined, yet at once relatable.
Went for mother's day celebration.
The food worths Michelin 1 star, but the service... We went with my toddler and we're a bilingual family. I'm not sure whether this is the reason but the maître d' appeared to be a little aloof after said hi. We are the first to arrived in their outdoor area but we waited for over 30 minutes to get our order taken. The maître d' prioritized guests of other two tables who arrived shortly after us, without even introducing/discussing the menu with us. When he finally came to take our order, he insists that we have to order one egg caviar per person, because it's "very small and cannot be shared". But it ended up to be the dish we liked the least... There are some other small glitches like they took away some of our plates for no reason, and bring up wine glasses while we didn't order wine. In general, reasonable food but very disappointing services. Probably won't go again in a short time.
Service was absolutely incredible.
Unfortunately the tasting menu, although delicious gave me food poisoning. I would not recommend the lamb.
First the facts: This Michelin star restaurant is in Santa
First the facts: This Michelin star restaurant is in Santa Monica near Westwood. There is valet up front, and once you valet you walk a couple feet up toward the main street and you'll see a red door to enter the restaurant. You can order separate plates or you can do the tasting menu. If you want to do the tasting menu everyone in your group will have to agree on doing the tasting menu. You can get wine pairing if you'd like as well. We did the tasting menu and every dish was gorgeous and delicious. The steak was a bit chewy but other than that, it was perfect. The plating of each item was so beautiful. And the portions may seem small, they're not, it only seems that way because they're served separate. It's actually very filling. You just have to think about just how much food everything would be if they were all served on one big plate.. it's a lot of food. It's good for group seating or a romantic dinner for two. So, even with a slightly chewy steak, I have nothing but nice things to say about Citrin. This was a special birthday for me, I had brain surgery about a month ago and wasn't sure I'd be celebrating another birthday. My sister brought me here and had mentioned this to Citrin ahead of time, and they really went out of their way to give me the most special birthday dinner. They had a booth for us with the sweetest flower arrangement and the most thoughtful birthday card signed by everyone. They made me feel so special it made my eyes tear up. They are a Michelin star restaurant for a reason, and a huge part of that I say is their staff.
Really enjoyed happy hour here with a few girlfriends.
Although the bread wasn't warm, it was delicious and I'm glad we ordered it. The egg caviar, lobster bolognese, artichoke agnolotti, and seared scallop were all delicious! Would definitely order them again! Cocktails were all well balanced and superb.
Recently celebrated my daughter at Citrin with a party of 6.
The staff was very prepared and had options for our party which included a vegan. The service was great. Food was delicious. The only snafu was wine service. We started with glasses of champagne and then ordered a bottle. It took about 30 minutes before someone came out and said they didn't have the bottle. During the 30 minutes we went without a drink and there was no measure taken to accommodate the issue. Once mentioned to the server she said she would speak with the manager. One glass was comped but not the round. That was a bit lackluster from a professional service standpoint, especially when your bill is over $1,000 and you are dining at a Michelin restaurant. Having said that the food was delicious and all in all a wonderful time was had!
I was blown away by my experience at Citrin.
The food was amazing. The vibe was sophisticated. The service was excellent. From the moment i walked in the employees were kind, welcoming and thoughtful. The food was mouthwatering. The caviar was the best i ever had. I was there for my cousins birthday and Citrin made it a pleasure. I have Zero complaints. It's worth the cost. There is valet parking.
Food is so so.
Service is very good but it does not make up for the average quality of the food. It is really expensive. Won't go there for a second time
Michelin rated sister restaurant of Melisse which is
Michelin rated sister restaurant of Melisse which is located in the bottom level. Came here to celebrate my parents' anniversary and they had a little printed sign congratulating them. The ambiance is darkly lit with modern decor. Tasting menu is $165 as of March 2024 and includes four plates with the option for up charges. Everyone at the table must order the pre-fixe. Credit cards accepted. Valet parking available or you can opt for metered street parking. There were young kids in the restaurant. Service was alright - our waiter forgot that we told him that we only needed two wine glasses and instead brought out four in addition to some other minor complaints, so I took a star off for lack of attention to detail that other Michelin places have. Otherwise, the food was good, with my favorite being the dessert course. Some thoughts on what we tried below: Asparagus panna cotta - the amuse bouche was fun to eat and incorporated both asparagus and white asparagus. It was creamy and cool. Basil brioche - this came with French butter from Normandy. You could choose this or the French roll. The bread wasn't warm but the flavor was unique, if the color a bit too on the leprechaun green side Lobster bolognese - this is a molded pasta with butter foam on top (not your traditional pasta). Our waiter recommended just cutting into it like a bar, and it was fun to eat, if a bit cold. Egg caviar kit - my dad absolutely loved this. It's $25 extra but the caviar carefully placed into an egg shell was such a novel concept White asparagus - another upcharge, but also worth it if you like morels. The brown buttery sauce on the bottom was umami and delicious. Scallops - both my sister and mom opted for this. It was tasty and very tender. Crudo - this came with a generous amount of five pieces. It had some foliage on top which looked very aesthetic. Red mullet - my mom got this and the fish was cooked perfectly. The skin was crispy while the meat was flaky - she liked this a lot. Lamb - this is recommended to be cooked medium rare, and I agree with that assessment. It was very tender with the right amount of fat for a juicy burst of flavor and salt. Duo of beef - this comes with beef cheek and another cut. My sister preferred the lamb over the beef, which I agreed with. Cherimoya - both my parents got this since they prefer a lighter dessert. It's a tropical flavor and the restaurant added little candles for them to blow out. Chocolate cake - this had a chocolate filling and came with ice cream on the side. I love the combination of hot and cold in a dessert, and felt like it was the right level of sweetness.

It was an ok experience for me.
It was a busy Friday night when we dined so service was a little slow, took about 45 mins til we got the second course. Over all it was ok.
A dance with my tastebuds was the themnof tonight.
Loved it all. Still thinking of the food. We just celebrated our anniversary . We got the$165 4 course meal each. Amuse bouche was given to cleanse the tastbuds. Perfect flavor of fresh and tangy. Then comes our 1st course, the egg caviar. It was an extra $25 supplement but I couldn't get enough of the caviar mixed with mayonnaise and soft boiled egg yolk. A taste for your soul. Oh my gosh. 2nd came the bolognese and rockfish. The piece of food had its own flavor. But wow. the taste just hits you. The rockfish sauce was mild and perfect with the fish. 3rd course was the beef , soft and tasty. It came with a sauce poured over your meal and peppercorn on the side . 4th course was the chocolate fondue and mango with tapioca. It was to die for. Because it was our anniversary, they gave a cute sign that greeted us and an extra dessert treat!.. gold flake ,what look like a gummy red life saver, 2 rich and decadent chocolate pieces and the sorbet was lemony and can taste that sweet sourness. The service was great. Each course was prepared with such cleanliness and the dish sets were in a neat alignment. We were able to take our time did not feel rushed. Truly one of my favorite dinners ever. I expected the best out of a michelin chef and got exactly was I was looking for. Bravo! And thank you for a wonderful anniversary dinner experience.
Quiet luxury dining
Citrin is a really great, well-executed, super-fine dining restaurant deserving of its Michelin star. The room is buzzy and fun but also seems private. The staff is very well-trained and friendly. I observed the sommelier from next door do a classy job with the next table. She was very knowledgeable and patient with them. (I just had a great cocktail.) The prix fixe was a fair value — I had a raw hamachi, totally bomb lobster pasta dish, wagu beef, and citrus-y foam and ice cream dessert. Amus bouche was delicious tomato/cucumber foam and second gratis dessert had 3 components. Really stellar spot.
LA's Best Restaurant
Spectacular meal at LA's best restaurant. We had a small mix up about our seating location and the staff found the perfect table for us within a few minutes on our arrival. From the moment we sat down our server Lana was making suggestions to guide us through the menu and took such good care of us throughout the night we felt like family. I still love the egg white foam infused cocktail with delectable cherries to start my Perfect meal. The service is so precise our water glasses are topped off continuously and the staff definitely anticipates your every need. The amuse bouche beets with tangy tangerine sauce was stunning. We were four and each of us had the price fixe meal which was a great adventure. I had the scallops which were amaizing and our friends had the spaghetti with lobster and sea foam that was a work of art. My partner had the egg starter with caviar which is worth every penny. And I loved the locally sourced rockfish which was a real treat. The rib eye steak was cooked perfectly and the plate was gorgeous. Every detail from the potatoes to the colored salt on the plate had been prepared like it was going to be filmed for Chef's Table. The somollier was also delightful and gave us a wonder bottle from France and her passion and conversation and knowledge of wine was a real treat for all of us. The pear desert was light and special and the hand made chocolates they give each table at the meals end were just the best. This is one of those few restaurants that you can never get tired of and is world class terrific!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
