A new high quality addition to Nob Hill-Ciccino - Italian
A new high quality addition to Nob Hill-Ciccino - Italian slang for "sweetheart " is the best new jneighborhood place to eat great Italian food in a cozy atmosphere with attentive service. We tried two starters, house made warm focaccia and the frito misto- both looked and tasted great. The pasta, Pappardelle Boar Ragout was ample, delicious and perfectly prepared, the Ravioli Carbonara, rich and flavorful and the secondi, Duck Breast, an exquisite preparation served with a marinated pear complement . Do not skip dessert! The Panna cotta and the Tiramisu Mousse were high standard desserts that left us ready for our evening concert. Make reservations as this has become a very popular destination.

Perfect restaurant for a night out with friends or a couple's outing. Finally, a quiet place where you can have a conversation without loud music. Excellent food with a good selection of wines. And those ravioli carbonara ?!?!? I dream about them at night Along with the tartare della Rita and the scallop, shrimp and squid skewers! The cherry on top? The authentic Italian chef in the kitchen! Bravo

This hole in a wall Italian restaurant in Nob Hill is amazing! The dishes are delicious, especially the pastas and the skewers. Also, the restaurant has a very nice vibe, really good for date nights or hangout with friends and family. The staff are really sweet but sometimes the staffs comes and ask about the food a little too often. But overall a great experience and worth the price paid!!! Also, always make reservations here! 10/10 - pasta dishes 9/10 - service

Ciccino is fantastic! A small Family owned restaurant with a warm, intimate feel to it. The menu is world class from the appetizers to the dessert. The focaccia bread was some of the best I've ever had. The shrimp and scallop skewers were incredibly tasteful. I had the duck which was complimented by a Fernet Branca flavored pear and a complement of endive. My wife's pasta was outstanding. The panna cotta and tiramisu were the perfect finish to an outstanding night. We'll be back very soon!

Photos don't do this spot justice! We nearly missed our 7:00 pm reservation on a classic SF rainy day but were quickly seated in this warm but slightly upscale dinner spot. They were pretty busy but service was great off the bat, offering plenty of menu recommendations. We started off with a fresh focaccia, which might've been the best bread I've had in years. The starter only comes with two pieces (European portions they say) but the quality outshined the need for quantity as it was crispy on the outside but warm and fluffy on the inside, pairing perfectly with olive oil and balsamic. For the main course we tried the special - Gnocchi duck ragout - and the Ravioli Carbonara (per recommendation). While portions were smaller, the past itself was cooked perfectly. The carbonara had something of deep-fried crispy pancetta with a creamy but light orange-infused aerated sauce. Delicious, but I'm partial to a ragout, which was so tender and seasoned. The gnocchi itself was pillowy and soft with not much of a bite, which worked well for the dish. We ended the night with a velvety tiramisu - no complaints. The chef himself even brought it out to us! A true gem in the area and perfect for a date. Next time ordering a glass of wine for sure!

Food was flavorless and portions were very small for the price point. We sent our salad back. Service was not good either. The beet risotto had ok flavor but was served watery. An expensive miss for us.

Made a reservation for a Saturday night after seeing this place make it on the SF Chronicle top 25 restaurant list. The place is small and quaint, and we were seated quickly. The service was efficient and prompt, and the food came out really quickly, but in a well paced way. The only down side is that they don't have a cocktail menu (just aperol spritz), but I usually order wine so it wasn't a huge issue for me. We started with the scallop skewer and the squid skewer, as well as the halibut carpaccio. The halibut was super fresh, but I found the skewers a little underwhelming for the price ($9-10/skewer, essentially one squid breaded and thinly sliced on a stick), and would honestly not order again personally. But the pastas were the real star, in particular, the ravioli carbonara - a cheesy, gooey, rich symphony of pasta, accented with delicious pieces of pancetta. The husband thought this was one of the best pasta dishes he has ever had, so do not miss out on it! We also had the night's special, which was gnocchi with duck ragout. This was okay, but really overshadowed by the ravioli. We finished our meal with a light Panna cotta with a berry compote- silky smooth, a perfect way to end the night. Overall, despite some underwhelming dishes, the ravioli carbonara was a real star, making this restaurant already worth the trip and price. I would highly recommend checking this place out, and don't forget to order the ravioli!

Friendly and attentive service. Particularly appreciated the chef who checked in with us on the food by the end of the dinner service. Nice spot for a special night out.

.. but our experience at Ciccino as top notch and worthy of it! On a cozy yet busy rainy Tuesday night, Gian Marco and his staff treated us like we were the only seating they had. Great selection of Italian wines, the Fritto Misto and Scallop/Shrimp skewers tasted like they had been caught that day and were cooked delicately and to perfection. We also had the Passatelli, a bolognese/ragu (I can't remember which exactly it was), and our personal favorite, the Ravioli Carbonara. Looking forward to coming back soon and trying the duck that our table neighbors had!
Be the first to ReplyYou are in for a treat! Beautiful cozy Italian restaurant.
The wine list has some very nice unique wines and the server recommended us one of them ! We decided to share every dish with my friend and we did right. We ordered the Caprese salad and it was enough for the both of us! The capers on it were very good. For my main entrance, I had a hard time deciding with all the amazing choices but I went with the Passatelli, a pasta with breadcrumbs and porcini mushrooms. Yum ! The chef, GianMarco, also came out and greeted every table, which was a nice touch. We can't wait to come back to try the other items on the menu ! I recommend making a reservation, the place gets packed!

Finally made it to this little gem in Nob Hill and definitely looking forward to going back. We had a fantastic meal, sharing multiple dishes with friends. The flavor profiles and presentation of the dishes we had were spot on and paired perfectly with the wines staff suggested. The staff were friendly and attentive, something hard to find these days. Overall, a great experience and good value!

Incredible experience! This is a darling small restaurant with an incredible chef and staff. I planned a business dinner here and wanted an intimate yet relaxed experience. They took such great care of us. The wine selections were fantastic and almost everyone at the table ordered a pasta dish. The fennel salad was light and fresh, while the apps were incredible options from the sea. I can't wait to come back. The host thoughtfully assisted me with the table set up. All around 10/10. Thank You to the team at Ciccino! I cannot wait to come back.
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly serious issues with this place.
Came here for Valentine's Day dinner with my girlfriend as they advertised no pre fix menu. We arrived, and we were told there is only a pre fix menu available. It was $135 + $70 for wine pairing. I did not want to make a fuss and decided to roll with it and try something new. We ordered pre fix--my appetiser was breaded shrimp and scallops. They were burned. The table next to us (who sat down 20 minutes after us) had their entire appetiser skipped over and we're delivered the main course before we even had ours. To make matters worse, the wines were always poured late, so the pairing never actually happened. I saw at least 5 other couples arguing with staff over the service and the pre fixed menu that was never advertised. The food was very mediocre and I felt absolutely scammed out of $350+. If you want great service, go to Seven Hills or Abrazo where you will be taken care of and not judged and pressured into your every move at the restaurant. I will never be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyDisorganized kitchen leads to sloppy, hasty food.
Halibut was chunky, beef tartar was too. Ravioli and foamed cheese was transcendent...only reason for the two extra stars. Everything else, go to a National chain and get it better.
Be the first to ReplyThis place messed up Valentine's Day so bad it was
This place messed up Valentine's Day so bad it was literally laughable. They had an unannounced pre-fix menu for $130 that was clearly ruining people's dates. We really just wanted pasta and only got one on the menu, which I will say was quite good. The rest of the food was super meh. They had a steak or duck option which both turned out bland and were served on the exact same polenta/mushroom bed. Zero creativity here for their overpriced special menu. Most tables were spending 2+ hours here despite trying to get out sooner, myself included. At one point there was clearly a fight going on between the kitchen and front of house staff in which I think one of the main people walked out. Thankfully my wife and I had a good sense of humor about it all, but it was an absolute cash grab with terrible execution.
Be the first to ReplyWent here for a friend's birthday since we wanted to try it
Went here for a friend's birthday since we wanted to try it out and heard good things, but we were very disappointed by our experience. The food was ok. We first ordered the focaccia and three of their seafood skewers. The starters were not bad and their seafood was fresh. We ordered 2 pastas and the duck. Pastas were ok, just super super tiny portions. It was like as if we were eating 4 spoons of pasta and that was it. The duck was tender, but they only served two pieces for $60? I get it, it's a high end Italian place but I've been to way better around the city that's actually worth your money. Besides the food, the service that we had that day was just straight up horrible. We previously made a reservation weeks in advanced, and when we arrived we had to wait another 20 minutes to be seated. It took them so long to get to our table to let us order. We were patient, but it just came to a point where we had to do the bare minimum like ask for water, ask for them to open the bottle of wine, ask them to order our entrees. Just little things that kept piling up. Not worth going in my opinion.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for my birthday dinner with a party of 5 people.
I made a reservation 2.5 weeks in advance and when we showed up to the restaurant there were no tables available. The employees looked confused that we were checking in to our reservation - I think it was an off night.Once they moved tables around, we were finally seated. No one came to give us water, we had to ask. Menus and silverware weren't given to every member of the table. Now to the food: tasty dishes, extremely small portions. For a group of 5, we ordered 4 apps (focaccia, one of each skewer), 1 salad (caprese), 2 pastas (ravioli, passatelli) and 1 main dish (duck). We asked the waitress if that should be enough food and she said it should be enough. Everyone was actively hungry by the end of the meal.We had to ask the waiter for their attention to order and had to continuously keep asking for water throughout the meal.Extremely disappointing birthday dinner. We walked a few blocks to get pizza slices immediately after leaving. Wouldn't recommend compared to other restaurants in the same price range on Polk st.
Be the first to ReplyFood- 4/5- the food was good.
I would say it was great all around. We had the fritto misto which was lightly breaded, Ambience- 4/5- feels cozy and warm. That's what I expect from Italian restaurants. Service- 5/5- the service was awesome. They recognized me from my Resy profile and knew I had a reservation as I entered the restaurant. The food came in timely sequence. Drinks- 5/5- although they didn't have cocktails, their wine menu was great. I mentioned to the server I'd like a medium to full bodied and he brought a couple for my taste before I ordered my glass. A nice collection of Italian and Californian wines. Overall, I'd recommend this place for a nice evening out.

Excellent experience at Ciccino! I've been wanting to go for a while and got a last minute reservation. The scallops were my absolute favorite - both the skewers and the lightly fried seafood dish. They were so fresh and tender. Carbonara ravioli was an elevated twist to the classic and there was a new duck dish on the menu that was great, and the panna cotta with fruit was perfect to finish. The chef came out and was chatting with us, telling us all about the little touches in the restaurant - even the utensil holders are handmade. I had a great time and I can't wait to visit again!!
