Chateau
Very relaxing stay and close to scenic medieval villages. Food was amazing and service was top quality. Highly recommend staying here overnight or for extended stay. We will return in the summer months.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointment that followed us home
Despite the beautiful setting, this property was a disappointment. There is essentially no concierge service and no one could or would even provide information about the walking trails on the property. There was no one to provide directions to Aix en Provence or provide information about nearby restaurants. After checking out, we realized the hotel added an additional $800 charge for a fully paid reservation. Our travel agent contacted the hotel and received an apologetic email acknowledging their error and promising to correct it. We disputed the charge with our credit card company and it has now been over a month and this hotel has not rectified their mistake. Our room in the Chateau was comfortable but small. Breakfast buffet was good. The pool and surrounding furniture was dirty. I do not recommend this property.
Be the first to ReplyA beautiful and a modern 17th century place
Beautiful authentic place They were able to create a modern place with all the amenities in the world without ruining the 17th century experience! The stuff is so into helping the guests it felt so great. I will come back I promise, for more than 3 days next time…
Be the first to ReplyChateau is beautiful, service needs lots of improvement
Loved chateau, service needs lots of improvement August 2022 We loved it overall for its luxurious feel and high end fixtures however there are service related matters that must be improved for a full 5 star experience. We came as couple late august/ September to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The chateau is beautiful, absolutely breathtaking. The facilities are first class, fixtures and fittings the best you can get and they spare no details when it comes to making the place look and feel luxurious. The chateau is quite large and has many rooms compared to other (I believe over 50). When we were there, there were not a lot of people there, I would estimate 10 families overall. On our arrival there was no mention of our anniversary no note to wish us well nor bottle of wine or an upgrade (which could have easily been feasible seeing as the property was not at capacity and many rooms were available). This to us was the first sign that guest experience could be improved. None the less our room was very nice, smelt beautifully, spacious, had a very comfortable bed and an amazing tub. The bath products were superb and I bought some myself to take home. We spent our days enjoying the area (chateau is in an amazing location very close to aix and many other chateaus). We also spent a very large time relaxing in the chateau. Enjoying the greenery, the pool, grounds, indoor common areas. There is a sweet forest walk you can do around the chateau and you can also organise a picnic, a lovely touch. Around the chateau there are also vines. The indoor common areas are grand, plenty of space for everyone to enjoy and feel like royalty. The billiards table a favourite amongs guests. House rose is superb. We enjoyed it and it was fun to grab a bottle and sit outside to watch the sunset and converse. Improvement - The pool is amazing if you are first one there on the day. So much fun to lay around and salads provided are refreshing. If you go closer to closing time there is no one to supervise the place and there are towels and food left behind. If it’s open hours there should be someone up-keeping every little while no matter the time. There is no solid information about when meal times are leaving you playing a strange guessing game. Menus are wrong with timing (for example the room service menu said one thing but when asked we were told another). We came for breakfast and we were informed we were late (even though this was not stated and the hour was not late). Pool kiosk opened an hour after it was suppose to. On our last day we had an extremely uncomfortable experience we came down to the restaurant to have lunch. They presented us with the room service which was the straw that broke the camels back (because we have eaten only the few options on the menu for days at this point) we told them we are very disappointed as the menus and timings weren’t told to us/ aren’t listed and we wanted a regular lunch - to which we were advised this is not possible (so instead of accommodating our relatively simple request they preferred to turn us down and leave us hungry, upset and embarrassed as we just ended up sitting there - no water was even offered to us - unreal even though staff was not busy). You would expect more from a 5 star institution. Finally we had a late flight on the day of our departure and we asked to check out later then the regular hour. To note once more the chateau was quite empty and this was a weekday. The team didn’t agree initially and I had to press on with the request in order for this to be approved, though they were polite in handling the request. Overall we did have an a good time due to the beauty, luxurious feel, location and tranquility. I truly hope service staff is better trained and has a much more helpful and accommodating approach in order for it to live up to its 5 star rating.
Be the first to ReplyMagical Place Indeed
My husband and I have visited Chateau de Fonscolombe about 4-5 times over the last several years and every time is special and different for us. Château de Fonscolombe is a home away from home and a special romantic getaway to celebrate our Anniversary and my husband's birthday. The property is so special and so is the staff. They are very attentive to each guest and are warm and friendly. We always enjoy our stay here and are so grateful to call Fonscolombe our home and a very special place for us. Thank you to the whole Fonscolombe team for making our stay beautiful every single time. With Our Warmest Regards, Suhani & Andris Rubulis
Be the first to ReplyLiving like an 18th C. marquis with modern amenities in an exquisite French country setting
Service was exceptional as all our needs were overseen by Benjamin. We were given the middle room on the top floor in the original château directly overlooking the fountain. On the first night our bed and bathroom were lined with flower petals, including the shape of a heart on the bed. We had the gourmet dinner our first night in the 18th C. dining room, exquisitely prepared by Quentin. The château is centrally located in Provence, about 15-40 minutes from Aix, several interesting villages and wine tasting venues. The attentive and friendly service was among our many favorite features of this place. If you want to wander further afield consider renting a car as local public transportation is scarce, although Uber is available. The experience warrants more stays there for us.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing destination/ Average expensive meals .
Great location, amazing buildings with special surroundings, very comfortable rooms , large bathrooms, friendly staff . Heated pool excellent and bar service at pool nice . Dinner menu not amazing , very expensive for what you get .Wine list also very expensive. Breakfast excellent.
Be the first to ReplyWorst pool I've ever seen, and far too isolated in a bad area.
Hotel Fonscolombe has a lot of potential. What it needs is a new manager with some vision and experience in luxury. THE GOOD: - The staff were very nice. - The food is good. Their (one) restaurant is good. THE BAD: - Their (above-ground) pool is beyond revolting. So bad that I didn't use it from fear of getting a rash. There was dark moldy grime all over inside the pool, and even a tissue floating in there. (See photos). The surrounding pool area is covered in mud patches, so it's impossible to use the pool area without getting muddy feet. It's also not properly serviced. - Very uncomfortable bed (hard to sleep and woke sore) with cheap rough sheets (I had to put a t-shirt over my pillow). - Air conditioning that makes a startlingly loud mechanical noise (sounds like a coffee machine working) every 7 minutes, no matter what setting it's on. Needless to say, this also made it hard to sleep. They know about this and don't intend to change systems. - Theor two basement massage rooms are separated only by a curtain. - The closet doors are impossible to close quietly, and so we heard neighbors 'slamming' (by closing normally) doors a lot. - There's nowhere great to have a drink. There's one tiny bar with no windows and the smell of oil lamps, with stacks of boxes in the corner. Bright lights and 'no music', so the only noise is the loud noise of several industrial fridges. - From our room we could see stacks of broken furniture and two men drilling and hammering, fixing them. Like a little construction / worksite. It was not relaxing. - Unlike other hotels in the area, Fonscolombe put no effort into gardening. They have all this land, and it's all just patchy grass with gravel patterns, or messy and wild. Other competing hotels in the area have created beautiful gardens that are great places to sit and chill. - Other hotels have multiple restaurants, but this hotel only has one, and no useable bar area. - The inside seating areas are not serviced. It's not possible to sit and have a drink. - Gym with only 3 machines (one was out of order) in a super tiny basement room. - Can't do outdoor activities. There's literally nowhere to go biking or hiking in the area. Terrible location in general, very isolated.
Be the first to ReplyLovely chateau
Beautifully maintained, well appointed rooms, centrally located. Staff was lacking and we could have used more attention to details. For example, the lawn patio does not have waiter service for drinks. You have to walk a distance to enter the restaurant to put in an order, frankly ridiculous. Additionally, the library room in the chateau has no staff present either.
Be the first to ReplyAn excellent hotel at a great location in Provence!
The experience here started well before we arrived. Coralie understood our room requirement perfectly so we were very happy with our room for our four night stay. Turns out Coralie checked us in on arrival too and she is an excellent face to the hotel , as are all the front desk staff we encountered. The room was well appointed and we had plenty of space. The pool is probably a 50 m or so walk from the hotel through a little field. It was a perfect temperature and food and drinks were available poolside. Even though the weekend was busy there seemed to be enough lounges and umbrellas for all. The food at L’Orangerie was excellent with great seating whether indoor or outside on the terrace. The Fonscolombe wines were a surprise so we bought a dozen white and Rose to take with us. It was not far for us to visit L’isle de la Sorgue markets on Sunday (55 mins and excellent) and a must do is lunch at Chateau La Coste - an amazing art gallery amongst vineyards with three top quality restaurants (ten mins away). There are other pretty towns close by (within 15 mins or so) to visit too. When it was time to leave, we were sad to go. The staff were all so welcoming - it’s a credit to the hotel leadership. Well done Vincent! Thank you everyone. David and Deb. (Ps - great to have a pharmacy in Le Puys St Reparade with Roman who speaks very good English too!)
Be the first to ReplyThe Perfect Spot to Relax in Provence!
After a busy week of traveling around Spain and France, we go the chance to sit and relax in this beautiful Chateau for a few days to end our travels. It was absolutely delightful. We were enchanted the moment we drove up the front drive. The tour of the property was well detailed and the entire staff was so attentive and friendly. We enjoyed relaxing by the beautiful pool each day, and even an ice cream break there! L'Orangerie restaurant was good, but the wine list definitely was! The best part was the bedroom: comfortable bed, heated floors in the bathroom, glorious rain shower and soaking tub, and cool air conditioning...all we needed at the end of a busy two week trip! We will definitely be back.
Be the first to Replya beautiful chateau tucked away in the vineyards
we went to celebrate a friends 60th bday and it was the perfect place. The food was excellent, the rooms were decent..but get an AC room. The staff were amazing, they went out of their way to make us comfortable, even went and bought a kettle for me. We could not ask for more. I would like to say a special Thank you to Tibo, jean sebastian, mathieu, the lady at the front desk when we checked in, and all the staff. BIG, BIG THANK YOU!!
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunate timing left a bad impression
We were staying for one night unfortunately after a wedding. A wedding brunch party was occurring so we were unable to have lunch whilst waiting for a 4pm check in.
The property was untidy during our stay with litter everywhere and uncleared tables on the terrace. We brought this to the attention of the manager who was quite stuffy in response. For an expensive hotel the lack of a bar or service on the terrace , a scruffy pool area with small above ground pool and no walk in shower in the room we were initially shown to left a bad impression. We were subsequently moved to a satisfactory room but in this class of hotel to find a hand held shower in the bath ! Really ?
A prior stay in Chateau Serjac near Beziers ( see my review ) shows how to do it properly at about 50% of the cost of Fonscolombe

The hotel is beautiful
I don’t know how to feel exactly about this hotel. The young staff is charming and they really try to be helpful. The manager introduced himself when we arrived, but then when anything happens only the young staff will show up. The ambience was a little bit weird too...
We had a delay for our dinner but they really tried to make up for us and we felt satisfied with their solution. Food is average. The pool is nice but the vibe was weird.
The chateau is amazing and you can have some fun with the playing rooms and the outside entertainment. I am not really sure it was worth it the price.
