The chateau is beautiful, strikingly so. Our first impression made us feel rather wary due to the little reception desk stationed immediately in front of the door ~ I think it would be better located inside the chateau hallway to make more room, as it was a squeeze to fit in ourselves, luggage and children without blocking the route in and out. Once we walked through the wonderful chateau, it very much felt like a private French country house and it is beautifully decorated and authentic. We were absolutely thrilled with our suite. Gorgeous decor in keeping with the style and heritage of the castle with such character and comfort. Huge big beds with lovely linens and lots of space (We would highly recommend the Mary Louise suite for families) The Molton Brown bath condiments were a nice touch, and the welcome was very warm and genuine. Jean-Gwénaël Sereni particularly impressed us with his professionalism and kindness, he is a real asset to the Chateau. The setting is sublime, the pool is set in the park with bird song and it has very comfortable loungers and a heated pool, we quickly relaxed. We enjoyed a game of tennis or two, and walks around the grounds. Dinner in the restaurant fell on Bastille day, and it was very busy in the restaurant. Hence the loss of one star. We will definitely return, and we will stay longer next time. We loved the place, next time we intend to take a champagne tour, enjoy a picnic by the lake and hire some bikes. If you are booking the chateau as part of a road trip, as we did, take some time to enjoy the property properly booking at least a few nights ~ it was a great experience. A hotel that has retained it is history, character and appeal is fast becoming rare in such a globalised world, we are very pleased to find this little gem of a chateau so close to Calais. It can easily become a destination for a long weekend away in future too.
