The ambience of this place was so much cuter and cozier than expected on the outside. When it says they have karaoke, I was thinking it would be more of a dive bar, but it actually felt like a romantic date spot. Every dish we had was good but very small only enough for 2 to 3 people. Max. The drinks were great and would definitely love to come back.

TLDR: I've been multiple times and every time the food slaps. Worth it just for the food but karaoke is the cherry on top of the cake!SETTING: nice large restaurant and crowd differs depending on which day you go. When I went during the work week for dinner. the restaurant was practically empty with a family (+small child) eating dinner and filling up a little bit more when leaving around 9. When I went on a weekend night for karaoke, almost every seat in the place was taken. It's perfect for family dinner, dinner with friends, any occasion really.FOOD: the food is the absolute standout here which is how I prefer my restaurants :) the little gem salad is spectacular and my mouth is watering just thinking about that perfectly dressed, textured, salad. Just soooo good. May be one of my favorite salads ever. Everything else I've ever eaten here has been good including the grande fries (so f-ing good, you will demolish these), the fried chicken, the rice, the BEEF TARTARE.... wow. I have never eaten anything here that I didn't like. It always hits the spot - each dish is balanced with acidity, crunch, sweet, savory. I don't know how they do it, but they do it VERY well.SERVICE: service is always good here and you never have to wait long to be helped or served. VERDICT: one of my favorite spots in Williamsburg! The food is incredible here and trust me, you won't regret going. I know I will definitely be back.

Have no regrets ! I wasn't able to stay for it but apparently the restaurant converts to karaoke bar at 11pm. As for the food I'd recommend the salad, the croquetas, the chicken and swordfish skewers, and Korean fried chicken. The beef tartare was a little salty for my likings but still good. It's a tapas style restaurant so everything is meant to be shared. Our waitress helped us narrow down our order to fit out palette. Liked it a lot!

What a fun and delicious dinner! We ordered the Little Gem, Beef Tartare, Braised Lamb Noodles and the Fried Skate Wing on a cold Thursday night. Everything was so good but the fried skate is NOT TO BE MISSED! The outside is crispy and crunchy, the meat was heafty yet light and broke apart like crab meat. It was just ::chefs kiss:: phenomenal. We both raved about how perfect that dish was. We had a 730 pm dinner and didn't realize they had karaoke after. The staff were wonderful performers and made us feel so comfortable. Can't wait to visit again!

Love this place!! NGL i was a little apprehensive not knowing what to expect from the menu but wow was I pleasantly surprised!I'm actually still thinking about everything I ate.All the dishes have a nice mix of individual flavors and spices that you are able to enjoy with each bite. The fried chicken was so juicy and delicious and I am OBSESSED with the dressing on the little gem salad. So good!Cute vibe and interesting drinks as well! Will definitely be returning with friends soon!

A-maz-ing!!!!Every dish was incredible, and the cocktails were complex and well made.Had the pleasure of sticking around for karaoke, which was really fun and welcoming. Service was friendly and fast, there was no wait, but still a full house with a great vibe.A++++ would come again.

"How did you like it?" I asked my friends as we left (I had picked the place).Everyone agreed it was a three-out-of-five-star experience.Their cocktail list didn't interest me much, so I ordered a classic cocktail. It was well-made, but our drinks arrived after we received our second plate of food already, which was strange, as the restaurant was mostly empty. What took so long? The restaurant filled up fast. We ordered a third round of drinks that didn't arrive at all. Chino Grande, instead of apologizing, charged us for the round anyway. When I pointed this out, they said: "oh, they're making the drinks now!" -- but we had been watching the bar the whole time. No one was making our drinks - and they had already given us the check! Small things like that can leave a bad taste in your mouth. The food was good, but nothing was extraordinary. I applaud the menu for taking risks. Lamb neck pasta. Chips with beef tartare. A solid scallop ceviche. All very good, but again, nothing blew any of us away. It's also a much more small-plate experience than their menu will lead you to believe. We were all hungry afterwards and ordered an entire pizza after we left. This is after sharing maybe...6-7 dishes? Leaving me hungry is one of the few truly cardinal sins a restaurant can make. I would order the fries, and the skate, both were nice surprises.Service: friendly and unassuming. I asked if a certain dish was spicy. I was told no. The server was mostly correct. It was a little spicier than I was led to believe. However, another dish we ordered was super spicy! But the server had never connected the dots... It also took a while to order after we were seated in, again, an empty restaurant, but they were friendly and kind to our table throughout. The space: I do miss Walter Foods. So what they did was, they made the space their own without entirely demolishing the original vibe of WF. But the result is sort of a gloomy blank. I miss the original space.I'm told their karaoke is a lot of fun. Not sure I'll be back, there are SO MANY other restaurants in the neighborhood, that's the main thing.
Be the first to ReplyI truly don't understand the hype.
I went with a group of friends and none of us were impressed. One friend said her lamb noodles were decent, but I got the veggie fried rice, and it was the blandest dish ever - rice and spinach with no flavor whatsoever. And it was the only vegetarian option on the menu, so definitely don't come here if you're vegetarian. We stayed for the karaoke, and it was... fine. The vibes were kind of awkward, and everyone left pretty quickly. Why do karaoke at a restaurant with mediocre & expensive drinks when there's a cheap private room place right down the street?

The innovative dishes here are worth the visit! We sat at the bar on a Friday night, it was lively but we did not feel crowded in. We ordered the gem salad, the lamb neck noodles, an order of chicken + beef skewers (2 per order), and the grande fries. All super tasty. However, I would say the drawback here is that the service is lackluster. Our order except for the noodles came all at once. There needs to be greater consideration of pacing of courses especially for those with limited room at the bar. We felt rushed to eat all of our food while it's hot. Additionally, our plates were not cleared in a timely manner. We enjoyed the skewers but $15 for two skewers with no accompaniments is pricey. The food is great and the restaurant is new so I hope they are able to iron out some of these issues otherwise I would be leaning toward 3 stars next time.
Be the first to Replycelebrated my partner's birthday here with a big party.
couldn't be more thankful to the staff. the food was delicious, the bar was great, and the ambiance really upbeat. we sang karaoke after dinner with the entire place. don't come here if you don't like good food and fun
Be the first to ReplyHoly smokes, Chino Grande is FANTASTIC.
ย I was skeptical of the idea of a restaurant that becomes a karaoke bar, but after eating/singing at Chino Grande, I'm 100% on board. The food here was delicious. ย We fully trusted our server in helping us order and she did a great job directing us through the menu. ย Between the 5 of us, we had the perfect amount of food, ordering a bunch of appetizers, skewers, and a few larger dishes. ย The Little Gem salad and Chilled Mussels were a must have - both incredibly flavorful. ย From the mains, the veggie fried rice and fried chicken were amazing! ย We also ordered some fries because honestly, who doesn't nibbling on fries? ย After dinner, the restaurant transitions into a karaoke bar - vibes are really fun and I highly recommend if you're looking for a fun night in Brooklyn!
Be the first to ReplyReally oversauced everything.
Couldnt taste the scallops in the ceviche at all. Below average tartar. Skewers were fine. Among the positives is quick service and decent cocktails but the menu needs some work if they want to survive in Williamsburg

We ordered almost everything on the menu in a group and every dish was delicious. Highly recommend the swordfish skewers and chiquita chinita cocktail for a spicy treat.

Trialed a meal at Chino Grande before deciding to have my birthday here with friends, and everyone has been raving about our experience. I'll start with what I was drinking... Not usually a drinker but the Chiquita Chinita slapsssss... I think I had at least 6 of them (which wasn't the greatest idea, I'll admit ) I feel like this drink is the distillation of the flavor palette you will experience at Chino Grande: Pan-Asian and Latin-American flavors in a distinctly American fashion.. The spicy salt on the rim with mezcal paired w flavors of red pepper toasted rice and, don't quote me on this, sesame oil? So so good... even if the hungover I had the next morning has me convinced I will never drink again lol! The Little Gem salad and Chilled Mussels are great starters... Creamy, tangy and full of flavor. I'm quite particular when it comes to fruit in salad, and this one works. Re: mussels, one of the servers mentioned on our first visit that she didn't think aioli would work with mussels but she tried one and admitted defeat that she knows nothing about food and they're her favorite thing on the menu. My favorite dish on our first visit was the Scallop Ceviche. I don't know about you but I love ceviche... and nothing is more disappointing than a mediocre ceviche... Fortunately, the ceviche at Chino Grande is top-notch, citrusy and balanced. The green strawberries are so beautiful in the dish (visually and taste-wise) and quite innovative.Very photogenic dish. Can go on and on about how amazing everything else we got was (Tartare, Veggie Fried Rice, Lobster au poivre, swordfish skewers) but the one that I'm still thinking about after the fact is the Pork Ribs.... what the actual ****!!???!?! Flavor was incredible (which I was of course expecting) but the way it fell off the bone was transcendent .... My only regret is that I only ate two pieces.... should've gone flew a third ย Had the Banana Miso Custard on our first visit (obviously had to end the birthday dinner with cake) I pretty much always end a meal on dessert, but I was so full at the end of our first dinner that I decided not to order one.... but the kitchen sent our table an order and I'm SO glad they did. I'm a fan of banana cream pie myself and the saltiness from the miso really gives it balance and takes it to the next level... โ Perfectly sized for two people to share if you like to end a meal with a smackering of sweet. All in all, I have nothing but glowing things to say about Chino Grande. Already planning my return and looking for any excuse to take my friendsRun, don't walk! Worried that it'll get harder and harder to get a table as people taste the food here, but I'm not a gatekeeper

The food is fabulous! We tried an assortment of dishes and each one was delicious. The Swordfish was tender and just a bit spicy that left me wanting more. The fried chicken was some of the best I've ever had. The cabbage was absolutely bursting with flavor. Everything was truly delicious but my favorite, if I had to pick, would be the Wagyu Steak! So tender and the flavor was pure heaven
Be the first to ReplyLoved this place, Paul has really outdone himself.
Started with the Swordfish, Chicken Thigh and American Wagyu skewers. They were all amazing! Then moved onto the Beef Tartare & Chip, Veggie Fried Rice, Pork Ribs and Fried Chicken. It is hard to get Beef Tartare right but Chino Grande makes it easy. The fried chicken was tasty and the best I've ever had. The Pork Ribs were great too and the roe on top was a nice touch.I will be back, love this place and the crew working it!

This is the new restaurant with karaoke owned by the big Chinese guy from Win Son and the chef of Carmenta's in the kitchen.Even if you're not coming after 10:30 to sing, it's definitely worth coming by for the excellent food. We tried most of the menu ranging from the addictive Little Gem ($16) to the show-stopping Lobster au Poivre ($65), and it was all delicious. Also don't miss the Pork Ribs ($27) and some of the skewers, and get the Banana Miso Custard for dessert before you leave.
