First time here for a family celebration, the service was outstanding, the food was brought out on a timely manner, even though they were busy. The food felt fresh, will see sand and just delicious! Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyI was in the mood for Peruvian food, so decided to check
I was in the mood for Peruvian food, so decided to check out Chicama. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall with a small parking lot. The restaurant was smaller than I expected, but not busy when I went so it was cozy. The menu was fairly large, with lots of fun photos of their dishes on the wall as well. I ordered a Piqueo Chicama (appetizer sampler), chicken aguadito (small cilantro chicken soup), and cau cau (a tripe dish). The calamari in the appetizer was fried really well and was nice and crispy, though I did wish they had a few more leg pieces (not just body, though that's just personal preference). I swapped out yucca for the potato, and when they originally brought out potato, they realized the mistake and quickly replaced with yucca. The huancaรญna sauce was divine. The fish in the ceviche was a bit chewy, and the cau cau tripe was a bit fishy (tripe is hard to prepare). I also felt like the steamed rice was a bit hard. The soup was piping hot though, and a good-sized portion for "small." The ajรญ verde (green sauce) was also very good.I considered getting chicha morada to drink, but since it was bottled instead of made in-house, I opted for the fresh lulo juice, which was excellent! Lulo can be hard to come by.Overall, service was friendly and attentive, and the food was pretty good.
Be the first to Replythis restaurant is my go-to when i am working in cypress
this restaurant is my go-to when i am working in cypress and i have never had a prior complaint. however, today the dish that i have picked up for lunch was really salty. usually, there would be chunks of the beef but this time around the beef was cut into thin slices. just a bit disappointed..
Be the first to ReplyUpdating my review since my first 5-star review was posted
Updating my review since my first 5-star review was posted after just a single visit. Omg. I love this place. It's a true "hole in the wall,"with just a table or two; it's mainly take-out...but it's one of the two BEST takeout places in the area, in my book. The lomo saltados is TO DIE FOR, and the tallarines saltados is really good, too. I have gone back over and over and over again, and it is consistently amazing. It's the kind of meal I crave when I'm hungry or getting over being sick--it's Peruvian comfort food. I have told everyone I know about this little gem; how have I lived nearby for 25 years and only just discovered it? Now I'm hungry--and they are open!
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to like this place, I unfortunately I cannot
I wanted to like this place, I unfortunately I cannot recommend this establishment. The food literally was spoiled. I made the mistake of picking up the food, the car smelled horrible when I got home from the stench of the food. I still have it a try, maybe it was the spices they used. Two bites in, combined with bad smell and I threw my whole plate away. It's wasn't cheap either, i should have gone to Pollo Inca or El Rocoto. It's a shame that the owner was okay with packing the food and had took no pride to give a great dish, i should have taken the empty place as a sign.
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly rude.
Don't bother. Take your money elsewhere. Would give 0 stars if I could.
Be the first to ReplyStumbled upon this place.
Hidden gem! Can't wait to return. Parking isn't great, but the food and service makes up for it.

It's a small hole in the wall restaurant, but it's worth the stop to eat. Been here a few times, good service, good food and reasonable prices.
Be the first to ReplyOrdered beef saltados and fried calamari.
They are all too salty. Will not come back. One star is more than what it needs

If I could give this place 6 stars I would, but unfortunately I ran out. Everything here is <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbomb.com&s=bb4f996415a9c2f21137e27cfb68f439a48cec2652b53e9b50dd7e766dbe177e" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">bomb.com</a>
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food.
Friendly, accommodating staff. Terrible parking lot but that's not their fault. Just a busy ,crowded strip mall. Also, plenty of parking on the street. Looking forward to our next visit.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is one of my favorite Peruvians places in OC.
I love their tallarin verde, green sauce, and alfajores. Love, love their chicha too!
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here for take-out.
Ordered the beef saltados plus egg. Order was ready as soon as I arrived, and the service was friendly and professional. I promised to come back if I liked it. I. Will. Be. Back. And soon! This may easily become my go-to dinner! Two thumbs up.
Be the first to ReplyWe were so disappointed in this restaurant.
I don't even know where to start. We ordered appetizers and they sat on the counter for 10 minutes before the waitress brought it to our table. We were sitting in front of this counter. I wanted to grab our food myself but wanted to see how long it would take before she brought it. 10 minutes. The food is edible but not great. If you want Peruvian food, there are many other options that would be better. What finally killed this place for me was when my friend got his dish, the inside of the meat was cold. He told the waitress and she literally asked him "what do you want me to do?" in a very condescending manner. No apology, didn't take the plate to try and heat it up, nothing. Just that question and walked away. I couldn't believe it. She didn't charge us for his plate but we won't be returning.
Be the first to ReplyFelt like we were ripped off with the charges.
We came here with four people and ordered a meal each with a few sides, desserts and drinks. Water was not served for those that did not order drinks, we had to ask for it. We didn't get the complimentary bread with butter either. When the food arrived, most of it just tasted very salty. So salty that we drank most of our drinks and our water was never refilled. The dessert, one of us ordered the ice cream with crepes, but they ran out of crepes. The lady suggested fried plantain with ice cream. When we got our check, we were over charged for one of the plates, $65 for the vegetarian spaghetti. Luckily we caught it because we almost paid for it without checking. We told the lady and she went ahead and fixed it for us. I decided to thoroughly check the costs for each of the items. I remember the costs for exactly what I ordered. This time, she charged me $13 for the spaghetti instead of $12 like what the menu stated. Fried plantains with ice cream is supposed to be $8 but she charged separately--plantains $5 and Ice cream $4.5, together was $9.5. This goes for the rest of the items. We decided to not tip because we were discreetly charged much more than what was on the menu. That's just not right. I advise that everyone should thoroughly check their stubs if you do decide to come here. I can understand if it was an honest mistake, but in this case, I don't think it was...therefore, I'm giving it a 1 star.
Be the first to ReplyWe tried the Pescado a lo macho and Lomo saltado.
Both were very good. I liked my Pescado a lo macho a lot. Will definitely come back. Prices were very reasonable, too. Recommended!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic hole in the wall restaurant serving delicious
Fantastic hole in the wall restaurant serving delicious traditional cuisine. This is truly a mom and pop shop ran but literal mom and pop. The space is small but quaint and cute. They don't have outdoor seating but they offer take out. The food was delicious. Definitely one of our best Peruvian experiences this far in OC. It was only two of us for lunch but we're both excited to bring family here so we can order a bunch of stuff to try.Highly recommend the Papa Rellena and the Tallarines Verdes con Pollo. The Tellena was seasoned very well. The chicken in the Tallarines was perfectly cooked and seasoned.Service was also great. The gentleman who helped us was really nice. He didn't have a lot of seated guests but he was busy with a lot of Togo orders.
Be the first to ReplyThere aren't ย many places I've had actual good lomo/pollo
There aren't ย many places I've had actual good lomo/pollo saltado besides from Caveman Kitchen in LA (my all time favorite to get saltados) but I was craving it and I now live in OC so Chicama was the closest place that had it where it actually looked good so I came and tried it. Definitely was not disappointed, and for the price, it's well worth it (as well as the 20 minute drive too). I ordered the pollo saltado as well as tried the chicken empanadas which were very good as well. For less than $15 each for the lomo & pollo saltado, the portion is good. I would recommend coming here, their menu has lots of other choices too but personally I just came for the saltado. Pricing: 3.5/5 (only because the empanadas could have been priced better, or maybe if they added one or two more to the order it would make sense)Taste: 5/5Overall: 4/5 For sure coming back!
Be the first to ReplyIt wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about.
The saltado was flavorful though the beef was a little dry. The seafood picantes was okay - the shrimp and squid were fine, the fish was on the mushier side. Probably wouldn't come here again, but I don't regret trying it once.
Be the first to ReplyTypically every Peruvian restaurant I've been too they've
Typically every Peruvian restaurant I've been too they've had bread to start off with butter and Aji sauce, not here. Although a small disappointment I really look forward to having that so that was a let down. The food is pricey and the portions are small. Other than that food is good. Last thing the waiters won't ever check on you, you'll be waiving your hand alot to get there attention.
Be the first to ReplyOh, I've been here since I was a little kid.
It's nice coming here when I'm older. I always take my dearest people here. In general, I love the food. It's why I keep coming back. The soup is amazing. Full of flavor yet light. Please support this business. I wanted to keep coming back here years down the line.
Be the first to ReplyFirst visit today and got the aji de galina, chicken
First visit today and got the aji de galina, chicken tamale, and alfajores. Omg! The aji is delicious and the green sauce is addictively good - just spicy enough to make you want more.Takeout only at this time but this is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that serves fantastic home style dishes. Can't wait to dive into the alfajores next. Generous number of cookies in an order.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time ordering food from this place and I must say it
First time ordering food from this place and I must say it was pretty good the green ajรญ was super good and it had a spicy kick to it. Only thing the meat was kind of dry but other than that I liked the food.

This is kind of place I love- mom&pop making awesome food! This is why I love Yelp- not only does Yelp help me find and share what's good, it has the best information: Chicama's website says they are closed Sundays, but Yelp said they were open, and they are so we were able to have a delicious lunch. I had the cilantro chicken stew and I was so happy!!!
