Very fresh and yummy food! I ordered the Katsu Salmon
Very fresh and yummy food! I ordered the Katsu Salmon Burger and the cabbage was the perfect crunch to contrast the rich flavors of the salmon. The ingredients were organic and higher quality. The miso soup was seasoned properly as well. Service was great. Definitely recommend for a quick lunch in Brooklyn!

Chef Katsu Brooklyn is a small pop-up restaurant that sits in a quiet part of Brooklyn. I went on a rainy day, so I got the Salmon Dashi Chazuke which was the perfect little warm bowl of soup and rice. The flavors were light and refreshing and I would definitely come back to check out the other items on the menu! Do be warned that the seating is very limited, but the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Be the first to ReplyI'm hoping today was an off day for Chef Katsu, but both
I'm hoping today was an off day for Chef Katsu, but both the Japanese fried chicken burger and salmon katsu burger were incredibly flavorless. All we tasted was the cheese and shiso. Both the chicken and salmon were incredibly thin, so that could've added to why there was virtually no flavor to either sandwich. Service was also alright. It was quite crowded on a Sunday, so the staff were not super tactful at ushering people from their tables out the door. I know this place is pretty popular on social media, so perhaps that was also why my expectations were quite high. Likely won't try it again...
Be the first to ReplyCame on a Tuesday afternoon, and it was packed.
There were people waiting to be seated while others just got takeout. Definitely come earlier if you want to sit down. There was a park across the street, but the children from the nearby school were having recess there so not much other seating. The katsu sandwiches were great. My favorite was the salmon. The curry on the chicken katsu was good. The breading on all were light. The meats were a little dry, so I would've liked if there was more sauce for all of the sandwiches. The purin was amazing, super creamy and milky. The caramel sauce wasn't too sweet either and paired so well with it. Don't skip it if it's available. Solid lunch spot with prices that are low for NYC.
Be the first to ReplyI came here to get takeout for lunch on a Sunday afternoon.
The place was packed and there's limited seating so we decided to get takeout. We ordered the chicken katsu rice bowl and the salmon with ikura (salmon roe) rice bowl. The portion size was larger than I expected. The chicken katsu bowl had two cutlets and was crispy. I think the pork katsu would not be as dry as the chicken katsu so I would get that next time. I also really liked the shishito peppers and watermelon radish on the side. The salmon and ikura were very fresh and looked so pretty. I would definitely come back, everyone seemed to be ordering the katsu burgers.
Be the first to ReplyLove the food.
Would give more stars but every time we try to order they are closed. Hours are weirdly limited. Says they are open on Yelp but Seamless says they're closed. Confusing and annoying.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food.
Always fresh. Owners and staff are so kind. The chicken katsu is my most favorite.
Be the first to ReplyCame across this place on social and I decided to drive to
Came across this place on social and I decided to drive to nyc and give it a try! I love how simple and minimalist the place is. Their menu consist of burgers, rice bowls, drinks and desserts. I originally wanted the salmon & ikura bowl but it's already sold out. The cashier said that they're limited of how many they have per day. So I asked him if he have any other recommendations (because I am new to this place) He suggested 2 other rice bowl, which I went with one of them (salmon teriyaki bowl) I then asked him for his recommendation for drinks. At this point, he seems annoyed, perhaps because I asked him for drinks recommendation? . However, I don't understand why he should be upset lol. If I'm in his shoes, the first time my customer ask for recommendations, I automatically would give all of the popular items, from the most popular rice bowls, to burger, to drinks and desserts. Not everyone that comes is local or a regular customer. Like me, I'm a new customer that drove all the way from New Jersey to NYC and decided to give this place a try. The salmon teriyaki + ikura (additional add on) was 8.5/10. I definitely would get it again! It's not 10/10 because I feel like there's something missing and it's not a "WOW" factor to be a 10/10. My husband ordered the chicken katsu with curry sauce. According him, the burger is 8.5/10 as well. He liked it but it's just missing some sauce due to the chicken being so dry and it's pretty thin. The iced hojicha with strawberry was 9.5/10! It was pretty good! Not too sweet and the strawberry add the perfect touch. I see that the place is pretty popular and a lot of people do take out. The seating place is not a lot, only 4 tables and a bar table for inside the place. They have tables outside too. Overall, I gave this place 3/4 stars. I really wanted to give this place more stars but the negative vibe that I got from the cashier was not it. At the end while I was waiting for the bathroom, I even tried to do small talk him. I told him, "I really like the hojicha with strawberry, thank you for recommending it!" He didn't even make eye contact and ignored me for bit and just flatly said, "yea, i like that one too." ? At this point, Im just confused on what I did to pissed this guy off because he seems pretty talkative and friendly to other customers but I also realized that these are regular customers that perhaps comes often.
Be the first to ReplyFood was good for the price.
Seating is very limited. Must come when they open or expect long waits.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure why this place has such rave reviews.
Maybe I came on an off night? I ordered the Portobello Katsu Burger with regular Fries. The burger was almost inedible. The breaded and fried portobello was soggy and had an odd flavor. I then removed the mushroom, so that I could salvage the sandwich and eat just the toppings, but it seems to not be the best type of bun to hold up against such substantial and heavy fillings. The fries were nice and crispy but had little flavor. They do have free tap water, which is always a plus.

GUYS this place is soooo freaking good!! What a hidden gem in Clinton hill. I came here with my boyfriend on Valentine's Day and it was such a great meal. The inside is really clean and bright although not that big and there's a few tables both on the inside and the canopied outside part. It was simple but cute in there. They have both burgers and rice bowls but they specialize in pork katsu (which is just Japanese fried pork)!!! The lady at the cash register recommended getting that with cheese. She was really kind and communicative so good service here as well! In the moment I wasn't really in the mood to eat something fried so I got the salmon teriyaki burger! I really liked the condiments on it and the bun was toasted just right. Everything together was a delicious explosion in my mouth. My boyfriend got the curry pork katsu burger and that was really yummy too! The curry complimented the pork really nicely. The sandwiches were both super fairly priced at ~10 dollars each! We both loved our food. For dessert we got the matcha red bean donut which tasted like exactly how it sounds like. The donut was really soft and yummy. Overall I can not wait to come back and bring friends!

Was really expecting more had katsu bowl was pretty good recommend having in restaurant may maintain more crispness. The pork and chicken katsu were under whelming very nice presentation, flavors were just decent no wow factorIced matcha tea and some Iced yuzu beverage were also decent we live by fort Lee so there's no shortage of great korean beverage places/coffee houses. Again decent nothing to rave about.Lastly yuzu cheesecake was not a fan texture was gummy for my taste prefer creamy cheesecakes taste was decent matcha ice cream in donut was probably the best part not a fan of donut but I enjoyed it.If your in the area wouldn't blame you for checking out, but i would not go out of my way to try.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place, great lunch spot.
Katsu burger is always on point. I always vow to try something different but I can't resist it.

Served my autistic son very burnt chicken, and what is that red stuff?!? It was bad enough that we tipped the kitchen for a pickup. Is the chef colorblind? How could you serve this to a customer...

Chicken Katie Curry Rice Bowl was flavorful, hot, and full of perfect bites. The hot lemonade was great for a cold evening. Super intimate space.
Be the first to ReplyI love everything about katsu.
Service is phenomenal and the setting is so peaceful. Get the pork katsu bowl you won't regret it. All the desserts are amazing!! You won't be let down

When I saw the menu at @chefkatsubk I knew I would be coming back here, so for the first time I started with the original katsu options, katsudon and katsu burger. I really liked that they used shiso leaves, which added the light unique flavor of shiso as well as making the food more refreshing. Pretty good for NYC Japanese food!
Be the first to ReplyI used to love Chef Katsu and religiously ordered from them.
There was one time in a couple of months where my chicken was undercooked. I called them about it and they apologised and told me it was due to new staffing, and even sent a free lemonade with my next order. Come last week, I ordered from Chef Katsu again, where the chicken was still moving, completely raw. I got a refund from one of the food delivery providers. I decided to give them one more chance today, and even asked them on the special instructions to please make sure that the chicken is cooked well because it was raw last time. I got my food delivered only to find my chicken raw again. Never again.

The food is good but not much space to sit: Good pricing and the drinks and food is well presented and a good place to stop grab and go. Not many tables and we had to sit outside right next to where there was a lot of trash near the side of the road but you can tell that the restaurant does try to keep the surroundings clean and nice but there are limitations because of the space restrictions.

Yikes! Two hours in New York and our son takes us to this Asian sandwich shop in Brooklyn and man, was it good; no, excuse me, not good, excellent. I don't think I've been to very many Japanese sandwich shops. I've been to quite a few Vietnamese sandwich shops, but today was a very good suprise. I had a Pork Katsu Burger - with Shio-Koji marinated pork cutlet, shredded cabbage, shiso, mayo and CKB original miso sauce. It absolutely blew me away. I was actually ticked off when I finished it because I wanted more.My wife had their Chicken teriyaki bowl with a soft boiled egg, shishito peppers, cucumbers, pickles and rice. She also loved itOne son had a chicken teriyaki burger and another son had the Salmon Ikura bowl with so much good stuff, I can't write it down.New York never let's me down. This is my first time back here since all of that "Covid Rubbish" and being back here is like a breath of fresh air. It also doesn't hurt to have my first meal back, be a lunch at a place like Chef Katsu Brooklyn!

It was my first time at this restaurant, and I had a delightful experience. The staff was extremely patient and answered the few questions I had about the menu. I ordered the Portobello Katsu Burger, fries and a refreshing Matcha Yuzu Lemonade. The food was amazing, and the ambience is very chill and cozy! I can't wait to return and try something new :)

We ordered delivery and food came in 1 hour and was very very delicious. We polished everything so quickly I didn't get a chance to even take a photo! I tried the salmon with added ikura bowl and it was AMAZING! Such a comforting dish and the wasabi added an incredible zing! We also tried the chicken teriyaki bowl which was also a winner. Everything from the pickles , shishito peppers , chicken , rice was perfectly cooked. Side of miso soup was yummy too. Iced barley tea was spot on and a great supplement to the meal. The whole meal tasted like a home cooked meal made with love and care. Can't ย wait to order again soon!!!! Thank you chef katsu for an amazing meal! We love that you deliver to us !! 20 stars!!!!
Be the first to ReplySmall shop serving katsu burgers, teriyaki burgers, rice
Small shop serving katsu burgers, teriyaki burgers, rice bowls, and an assortment of drinks and desserts. This is a perfect lunch spot but with limited seating indoors and outdoors. We stopped by here on a weekend afternoon after passing by it several times. We opted for a chicken katsu burger with curry sauce, and a salmon teriyaki bowl. All their items are around $10-15. The burger is so worth $10! they don't skimp on the chicken (pretty sizeable) and they top it off with cole slaw, all sandwiched in between a really delicious bun! almost like a potato bun?? I loved the curry sauce, which actually wasn't too messy. The burger is quite big though, so I'd share this + another item with a friend for some variety. The salmon bowl was good, but we thought the burger was way more worth it.We gulped everything down with a yuzu lemonade that was super refreshing but a little on the sweet side.

Came over to Chef Katsu after discovering the restaurant we planned to go to nearby was closed for a private event. They got indoor and outdoor seating with room for about ten outside. We grabbed an order of the pork katsu sandwich along with fries and a lemonade. Sandwich was flavor. The brioche bun was soft and absorbent. Katsu was juicy and crispy. Slaw on top added a nice crunch. Fries were very crispy. Nicely cut so they still has some steaming hot potato goodness inside. Not salty at all. In fact, I might have salted or seasoned a little more aggressively.Lemonade was sweet and refreshing. Service was very quick. They have one gender neutral restroom.
