My friend and came for dinner before a concert we tried the salmon tacos, potato flautas, Ana crispy fishy taco with cocktails. Food and drinks were bland. Service was good. Ambiance is a 10.
Be the first to ReplyI absolutely love chavelas.
The food is fantastic and the cocktails are creative and tasty. The interior is a little cramped depending on where you sit but not too bad. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the food never takes too long to come out.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, service, and killer michelada's and margaritas.
Reliable place to eat and drink comfortably with friends and family. We ate outside, but inside is nicely decorated. Plus, they have kid portions and fresh fruit drinks. I
Be the first to ReplyFood is amazing! Everything on the menu is great.
I've been going for years. It's definitely one of those places one would have to plan ahead as its very popular. Service is prompt and nice. Ambiance feels great too, definitely see American and Mexican culture influenced in interior decoration.

I'll admit that after mediocre meals at Rangoon and Ras Plant Based it had been some time since I made it to Crown Heights on an intentional dining excursion. So I was pleased when work necessitated a visit to the neighborhood's most well-known Mexican stalwart for an early weekday dinner.I was not quite in the mood for a cocktail, but I can see how the extensive mezcal list and lively environs are conducive to a good time. I would certainly come back for brunch on the weekend. The vegetarian options are plentiful - based on the photos I deviated from my usually-preferred chili relleno to try the dramatic Don Plate, a delicious thali-esque smattering of rice, beans, guacamole, cheese, roasted vegetables, and a generous supply of perfectly warm and soft mini tortillas. I was worried the roasted vegetables would be on the bland side, but they were actually very flavorful, and paired well with the other items on the platter.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food very fast service.
Highly recommend it. Very good for vegetarian's. Best place for miles around.

Pretty standard Mexican food but I also ordered this delivery and didn't eat inside the restaurant so not sure if it deserves more points. The enchiladas were fine, I've definitely had better but my standards are high because I'm from Texas. Churros were good. Rice and beans nothing out of the ordinary.
Be the first to ReplyAaahhh Chavelas.
....!This place slowly became one of my favorite spots to go the ambience is always on pointFoods come so fast and yummy thats you'll completely forget what you order well at least for me I did My crew and I was taking shots and loving cause The beautiful Shay check us in then Alejandro our waiter was funny and great but on a side note don't ask him for the spicy sauce because that will have your booty want to do the macarena;)But yep we tried it then roam the street of Franklin Ave to catch some scenery cause Fridays night Franklin ave is the place to be for shots shots shots and huevos! Lols But eat them spicy food at your risk cause I love spicy food
Be the first to ReplyWent for lunch with my wife while visiting NYC.
We started things off by ordering the guacamole and chips. Very fresh guac and chips seemed to be made in house. Then we ordered the Plato Don Carne. It's a prepare them yourselves taco platter. Comes with rice, chopped lettuce & tomatoes, guacamole, salsa, beans, chicken and beef along with warm tortillas. It was enough for the two of us. Food was tasty and service was good. Nice, friendly atmosphere. The decor reminds me of places I've visited in Coyoacán, Mexico. Wouldn't hesitate to go back if we're ever in the area again.
Be the first to ReplyI have to give it 5 stars.
It's where my wife and I had our first date. We split the a veggie taco platter. This was back in the day before it's current location. The staff was always friendly, the food was delicious, and had a great energy about it. It was cozy but not in a cramped subway car way. Hope it sticks around for many more years to come

If you're looking for delicious Mexican food, I highly recommend checking out Chavela's in Crown Heights, Brooklyn!I got this large plate of enchiladas and a side of rice and beans for only $15 + tax/tip. Talk about an amazing deal! Not to mention, it was authentic and delicious.I like how I was able to choose between chicken or cheese, and salsa verse or mole as my sauce. I liked the ambiance here and it was very beautifully decorated. Quick and attentive service too!

The only thing memorable from my meal was the sangria which was delicious. We sampled empanadas, steak taco, shrimp taco, taquitos & soup. The food was subpar. Service was good.
Be the first to ReplyMargaritas were incredible and refreshing.
Ingredients perfected. I sat at the bar, Claudia was my bartender. Very personable and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the chicken and avocado tostada combined and bistec sudado tacos. Very delightful experience. I returned for a repeat and they are closed for the month of August

Had a great time, food was delicious atmosphere was great will definitely be returning for more fun. The outdoor seating wasn't too bad despite the humidity.

Great ambiance--seriously obsessed with the pink tin ceiling and the chandeliers. The guac and homemade chips hit the spot. The cheese enchiladas were fine, but they did serve as my vehicle to the incredible rice and beans, so it worked out. Friendly service, though slow. Would recommend for a date. My husband had nothing but effusive words for the cochinita pibil taco.
Be the first to ReplyFelt pretty disappointed with this visit.
The salsas were bland and main dishes were off. The torta lacked structural integrity and the bread was doughy. The saving grace was the french toast that was cooked and flavored well.

Being from San Diego I was over the moon when I finally had a proper Chile Relleno, ceviche, fish taco, and something like a taco al carbon. They obviously have quality ingredients and marinate the meat and make proper stews to get that real authentic flavor. Corn tortillas are top notch along with the margaritas, not made with Cuervo. Ambiance is vibesy and not in a hipster way. Kind of an Ensenada vibe. Gracias Chavelas!
Be the first to ReplyBeen around for a while, but still solid Mexican cuisine.
Had the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and still banging with flavor as I remember many years ago when we lived in Crown Heights Brooklyn.
Be the first to ReplyService was good, food was bland.
Really depends what you like. If you like flavor, don't do it. If you don't like spice, go for it! Obviously I didn't try everything on the menus so maybe there's Hope but likely restaurants stick to one or the other with their dishes so it's likely consistent. Low rating is only because of the food because it is a restaurant after all, that's kind of the whole point of going
Be the first to ReplyGreat meal and service, thoroughly enjoyed.
Definitely will come back again once we are around the area.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time and will be back.
The food was great and service was excellent. Flautas and tacos were the best on the menu.

They don't take reservations but they are very nice at the door and have outdoor and bar seating. The strawberry margarita is my favorite. The crab tostada is good too and the cheese enchiladas with salsa verde

I wanted to come here for dinner but the wait was incredibly long and there were so many people waiting for a table. I was told by the white lady hostess who I can tell wanted us to leave because there were so many people waiting for a table, that the wait was 2 hours. So we went next door instead. Then by the end of the night, I went to Chavelas for drinks. Our bartender was personable, funny, great, black/spanish man, great customer service and made our night by chatting with us and making us amazing drinks!I love the vibe of Chavelas and will definitely come back soon. Hopefully to try the food next time.

I was visiting my cousin in Crown Heights and we wanted to find a place to have dinner together. This place came highly recommended so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed with the meal. My cousin had the chicken enchiladas and I had fish tacos. Food was tasty. The cucumber margarita was yummy.

When I came it was quite crowded but they had a lot of seating so we didn't have to wait. The servers were friendly and efficient. When I asked what was gluten free they told me that pretty much everything on the menu was, other than the battered fish tacos and the mole sauce which were both made with breadcrumbs. The food came out quickly and the tacos were definitely a fair size that 3 was enough for me for lunch, although maybe next time I would order 4. The flavors were good, although not quite as amazing as some tacos I had when I visited Mexico recently, but by Brooklyn standards definitely some of the better ones you can find.
