Carmine's New York Reviews from The Last Year
Food was absolutely delicious! They had a special night
Food was absolutely delicious! They had a special night with spaghetti carbonara and it was amazing. We also ordered the lasagna which did not disappoint. There was plenty of food to feed a party of six.
So came in before a Broadway show.
We sat at the bar. The bar tender was very polite and attentive. It was a little annoying though because the dishes are so large when people can to sit down to wait for their table it felt like they were breathing over our food. This is FAMILY STYLE! The servings were very large the pasta could serve two big eateries or four regular eaters. We got the penne Al a vodka which is the vegetarian style !! We also got the shrimp scampi. Which came with 11 jumbo shrimps. Got a basket of bread (cold ) that was disappointing. All in all it was a good spot. Not cheap be prepared to spend it cost almost 100 for those two dishes no drinks or dessert.
I'm extremely disappointed from my last experience.
The restaurant is understaffed with waiters running around and cleaning their own tables instead of paying attention to the guests. I was also surprised to learn that they make their pasta dishes with canola oil. Canola! Clearly the owners are trying to save some money. That explains the low quality wines with unreasonable prices and the waiters desperately trying to "sell" you another dish. Extremely poor management running a "fake it till you make it" tourist trap!
Rude Waiter by the name of Jonathan.
So I paid for my food which came to $205. I paid in cash. I didnt put my waiter Jonathans $40 tip with the $205 because I was going to leave it on the table. So my waiter Jonathan noticed the tip wasnt with the $205 for my food and he came back to my table very nasty asking for his tip. He storms back and hes like "SO WHERES MY TIP?!" I was shocked! So I hand him his $40 tip that I was going to leave on the table. He was very rude and nasty about it. He was talking so loud that people were looking at us. Thats unacceptable. At that point I didnt want to leave a tip at all. Jonathan needs to work on his attitude.

What a disappointment for my birthday.
.... the service was VERY slow, and we were severely neglected. No one asked if we needed more drinks, when I said I needed Parmesan cheese I was given a cheese shaker with a tiny amount of cheese crusted into the bottom of the jar. Clearly there was nothing left in this cheese shaker. Took 30 min to get our check. We had to repeat things so many times. We ordered the steak, it wasn't communicated that it was $155 lol. But the worst part, as I sat there excited for my birthday, listening to other tables get sang happy birthday.. no one ever made it to me. We were handed the check for almost $400 for 3 dishes.. and not ANYTHING for my birthday. Not a cookie. Not a song. Nothing!!! And they knew it was my birthday the host verified with me that I was celebrating my birthday. It was the biggest disappointment.
Showed up 45 minutes earlier then my 8:30PM Open Table
Showed up 45 minutes earlier then my 8:30PM Open Table reservation for two and checked in with the hostess hoping to be seated earlier if possible. Was directed to wait at the bar where I purchased 3 drinks while waiting. Upon being called at 8:30PM I was taken to a rather undesirable table of which I declined as a major part of the appeal to this restaurant is it's ambiance. Eventually seated 25 inured after our initial scheduled reservation and having waited in restaurant for 45 minutes finally seated a better table but still against a wall and not near the heart of the restaurant. All this edit only to find that the entree me snd my son wanted to order, the 2 pound lobster organnata was not a available. Suffice it to say I'm highly disappointed in this place. Dinner dishes are family style so it was to feed both my son and I, do in the end Teo dinners didn't get what they had hoped for, I've ordered a different entree but I'll conclude my review with a caution in dining in this restaurant. Very disappointed, I'd it were t so late we'd eat elsewhere.
We go here every time we visit NYC.
The food is the best!!! It is not really a place for 2-best to have 3-4 people. The staff are great and we love the ravioli and Caesar salad!!
Talk about a theater weekend! I saw five Broadway shows in
Talk about a theater weekend! I saw five Broadway shows in 4 days. I also got to visit the new Museum of Broadway which was very interesting and lots of fun! One of my former students, Avilon Tate, was starring in The Wiz on Broadway, and I just had to be in the audience! What a treat to be sitting in the seventh row with his mom, grandmother, Aunt and friends. A night I'll never forget! What made this trip even more special was my visit to Carmine's before one of the shows. Oh my God. I don't even know where to begin... I had been to Carmine's years ago with Amy and her family. I had forgotten about the family style servings but I did remember the meal was bountiful and scrumptious. Even though I was by myself, I wanted to revisit that incredible experience and have dinner at their 44th Street location in the heart of Broadway. I was able to make a reservation online for 5pm but since I'm only one person they would only let me make a reservation at the bar. I was not thrilled about that, but when I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see that my bar seat was a very comfortable high back chair and table alongside the bar. I had a bird's eye view of the expansiveness of this restaurant and enjoyed being perched up there awaiting my Italian feast! My waiter was charming and when I told him I had to have my favorite, chicken parmesan, he did remind me that it is a large portion a la family style and that it did not come with pasta. I could not imagine enjoying chicken parmesan without my spaghetti so I added that to the order. He said with a grin on his face, "I hope you have a big appetite!" I enjoyed a big basket of a variety of Italian breads. Everything warm and delicious! and my diet Coke refills kept coming as I took in dozens and dozens of happy families and friends enjoying this their meal in this landmark restaurant. When my platter arrived I almost fell off my high back chair. The thing was freaking humongous. How in the world was I ever going to make a dent in this? As much as I love chicken parmesan... The waiter could see I was freaked out and reminded me that I could always get a doggy bag. The problem was, I was heading to the theater after dinner and did not have a fridge back at my hotel. In the meantime, I decided to dig in and do as much damage as I could. Oh my God it was absolutely delicious! So much spaghetti and so much chicken parmesan and so much Italian bread and so much diet Coke. Everything I love. Besides, I was in New York and about to see a Broadway show! I got through about half and could not take one more bite. My charming waiter wrapped everything up for me in a doggy bag. On the way to the theater I saw a homeless hungry man sitting in the street and so I walked up to him and offered him a delicious Italian meal. He turned me down, telling me he was waiting on a friend to get him a hamburger at McDonald's. What else can I say? I could not part with that meal and stuck it in a bag in my sport jacket and brought it into the theater with me. LOL No, I did NOT eat it during the show!!!! That night when I got home to my hotel, I worked on it a little more and with a broken heart I threw the rest of it out. Needless to say, I loved the meal, I loved the atmosphere, I love the portion. I loved the waiter and loved the experience. I was pleasantly surprised that although it was priced a bit on the high side, it really was not a big price when you saw the portion and quality and service of what you received. I thought everything was wonderful. They are doing all of the right things. So next time you are going to see a Hit on Broadway, I suggest you go to Carmine's for dinner which in my opinion is a huge hit as well and also deserves a standing ovation! Enjoy!!
What an Italian restaurant should be about
Eating in New York City is all about New York-style pizza, New York cheesecake, Manhattan clam chowder, pastrami on rye, bagels with lox and cream cheese, chicken and waffles and soft pretzels with mustard or cheese dip. And Italian restaurants. Like Carmine's, which opened in 1992 at 200 West 44th Street in Times Square, at Shubert Aly and 8th Avenue, in Midtown Manhattan's Theatre District. Open from 11:30 to 11 Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and 11:30 to midnight from Wednesday through Saturday, this place reminds diners that red sauce, garlic and good times will never go out of style. Carmine's specializes in southern Italian cooking, features a full bar and recommends stuffed mushrooms, ravioli and shrimp scampi. The main dining room has beige walls, wood paneling and antique-style brass chandeliers. A blood-red leather banquette and large tables accommodate large, rollicking parties. Numerous black-and-white photographs of famous Italian-Americans are joined by larger-than-life paintings of Fiorello La Guardia, Enrico Caruso and Jimmy Durante. My wife and I started with garlic bread, Caesar salad, shrimp cocktail and Zuppe de Mussels. For her entree, my wife chose lasagna with beef, ricotta and marinara sauce with sauteed spinach. I opted for veal scaloppine with lemon/butter, meatballs and sauteed broccoli. For dessert, we shared bread pudding and strawberry shortcake. Carmine's is too good to host only one location. Others are at 2450 Broadway on the Upper West Side and 358 Graham Avenue in Brooklyn.
Had a reservation at 5:15 and was seated within 5 minutes
Had a reservation at 5:15 and was seated within 5 minutes of our intended reservation. Place was packed. It took quite a while before anyone addressed our table for even waters . We received a basket of bread but no butter or plates to enjoy it with. Our server was not very attentive or helpful. Very distracted with other tables. We informed staff we were there for a birthday and did not get to celebrate as our food arrived too late before we had to head out to the show. Food was delicious. Too much too eat. Would not recommend the calamari or chicken Marsala. Ceasear salad amazing as was Carbonara. Really wish we could have enjoyed the experience more. But service just was not good.
Disappointing
Disappointing. On arrival sent straight to table.Server polite but advised each dish would serve a minimum of 3 people. So could not explore any real variety … large degree of compromise for all 9 of us. Calamari starter was excellent .2 dishes and one drink forgotten. Had to remind. Was good ambiance but expensive for what it was- sadly
The "In Place" to go in Times Square
Everyone wants to go here to eat when in Times Square. You had better make a reservation or you will never get in. There is a long wait time even with reservations and the place to wait is very crowded and be prepared to stand. Once at the table the service is excellent and the menu varied. The food is good but not the best Italian food. Still a good value for your money and enjoyable experience.
Big portions, busy restaurant for sure.
Food was good but I didn't know it was big portions
Great Italian restaurant
Excellent dining experience. The meal is done family style. The serving size was huge and feed all four of us. Food quality was excellent and the prices were extremely reasonable.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
