Carisma Toronto Reviews from The Last Year
Couldn’t get in!!
We made a reservation through Opentable and when we got to there a note on the door said closed for a private event. I understand things happen however they should have notified people with OpenTable reservations that they would be closed.
Nestled in an intimate space adorned with elegant design
Nestled in an intimate space adorned with elegant design elements and verdant potted plants, including charming small olive trees, this quaint establishment exudes a refined ambiance. From the moment we stepped in, it became evident that exceptional service was the cornerstone of our dining experience--a rarity in Toronto's bustling culinary scene of recent years. Our expectations were set high, and they were met with flying colors. We commenced our culinary journey with a delightful gesture--a complimentary offering of fresh, warm bread infused with fragrant rosemary and drizzled with luscious olive oil. A promising start indeed. We informed a server that we'll share an appetizer, and opted for the Calamari Alla Griglia ($22), a dish that arrived elegantly presented on two plates (a standard practice these days that an extra plate or two are brought as well, but properly and nicely presented smaller portions were a great gesture!). The grilled calamari, cooked to perfection, boasted a tender texture, complemented exquisitely by the warmth of Moroccan black olives and the vibrant scallion tomato salsa. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors, with the olives providing a pleasing hint of bitterness to balance the dish. Moving on to the main course, the Filetto Di Manzo ($65) stole the spotlight--a grilled beef tenderloin adorned with a decadent foie gras torchon and drizzled with a rich Barolo wine reduction. Paired with creamy mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables, every element of this dish danced on the palate. The steak, cooked to a flawless medium-rare, melted in the mouth, while the seared foie gras added a luxurious touch with its velvety texture and subtle sweetness, perfectly offsetting the bitterness of the wine reduction. It was a culinary masterpiece, surpassing even our most recent steak experiences. The Osso Bucco Alla Milanese ($50), served with risotto, proved to be another delightful surprise. Though not our usual choice, this rendition impressed with its tender, flavorful meat and a tantalizing addition of bone marrow, expertly highlighted by a special spoon provided for maximum enjoyment. As we concluded our meal, the desserts did not disappoint. The Tiramisu and Crème Brûlée were both standout desserts, with the Tiramisu being the best in Toronto in the last five years (although, I have to admit that about a year ago tasted even a better one in Florida, and the Crème Brûlée is taking the top spot in our dessert list for the same period. In summary, this dining experience transcended mere gastronomy--it was a symphony of flavors orchestrated to perfection - in addition to its elegant ambiance - left an indelible mark on our palates and memories.
The interior is nicer than the pictures! Food was decent
The interior is nicer than the pictures! Food was decent and came very quickly, but the server was somewhat unwelcoming and made the dining experience not as enjoyable. It seemed that he did not want to be serving us (perhaps because we did not order any drinks or antipasti).
Excellent meal but…..
Came from Kingston for a weekend away. Chose Carisma over a couple other highly rated Italian restaurants from Trip Advisor. Food was top notch, kitchen manager sent out excellently plated dishes, kitchen staff prepared dishes to die for……Scallopini lemon and Scallopini fungi were absolutely amazing….only downside was wait staff…most people, from my experiences at Italian (or most) restaurants, want fresh pepper, Parmesan, checks on whether food is good, etc….to happen…..it seemed as though our server had other more important things to do, compared to other very attentive staff to other tables, ours should be aware of his patrons…..perhaps this should be addressed by management for future interactions…. Overall a good night but could have been much better and being a very generous tipper, I would have been more than happy to contribute more but didn’t think at this time it was warranted.
Just had a business lunch.
Great service, great wine list and nice space. I ordered the veal Milanese which is described on the menu as a breaded veal chop with arugula salad. What I was served was one small breaded veal cutlet (not a veal chop as advertised). I cannot imagine how they can justify charging $45 for this. I left feeling hungry and ripped off.
Improve the Tasting Menu
We visited on a busy Saturday night. This was our third visit and this time we ordered the tasting menu with matching wines. When we asked as out the dishes on the tasting menu our waiter said it was a surprise all we needed to tell him was meat or fish? That’s pretty vague. As the 4 courses were delivered they were not described to us and glasses of wine were placed on the table vs being poured at the table and described. This not acceptable and the only time trying a tasting menu that this happened. If you offer a tasting menu your guests please let your guests know what they are getting.
Excellent
Excellent food and service made for an extremely enjoyable evening. Food was served hot and was very flavoursome.
Dinner with sister
Very nice and elegant place, excellent quality of food and service, as well as a wide choice of excellent dishes. The owners are really very kind and friendly, two wonderful people, we will certainly find the opportunity to return to visit you. Super recommended! Marco&Chiara
Busy & crowded but good service and good food
A busy downtown Italian restaurant serving very well prepared dishes with super fresh ingredients! A bit noisy with after work crowd.
Dropped by for dinner, the service is great.
The waiting staff was very attentive, and provide good advice for our order. We were seated at the round table. For the folks that's sitting inside, the seats can be tight and not the most comfortable. Food is nicely presented, what's rememberable is our order of steak was served with rosemary flambé. It was quite a scene. To bad, due to the crowd I was with, photo of the menu is not available. Other food like truffle pasta, grill calamari, shrimp and scallops, etc. They were not bad, but nothing exceptional for restaurant in this class. I would give it a 4.5 star, but rounding down due to the seating I had.
An evening to remember
As soon as we arrived, we knew we'd come to the right spot. There was a warm ambience to the place. The layout was spacious, people were happily chatting, and the waiters were buzzing around efficiently. When we were asked for our wine choice by the resident sommelier, we half seriously said why don't you have any Nero D'Avola because we both love it. We were immediately offered two glasses which were terrific. My beef tenderloin was to die for and my wife was equally impressed with her veal in mushroom sauce. We followed that up with a delectable raspberry sorbet (shared) and 2 cappuccinos. It was an evening to remember.
Consistently excellent over many years
Returned to this restaurant for the first time in 4 years, as I have not visited Toronto since before the pandemic Delighted to see it has retained its high standards in serving excellent Italian food. An extensive choice of authentic dishes, backed up with good service. Despite it being a Monday it was full so I was glad I had booked.
The restaurant was beautiful, service was great.
The food, however, was not as good as I had expected it to be for the price. The tuna tartare was overly tart. The red snapper fillet was small and not fresh because I had to add lemon to take away the fishiness. The lasagna was good, the gnocchi and penne was ok but not worth the price. The osso buco was dry and lacks taste. However, I loved the zucchini blossoms, they were great. The desserts were ok. For the price, my expectations were higher.
Amazing!
One of the best restaurant experiences I’ve ever had! From the friendly greeting and fun banter with the owner to the great service, excellent suggestions and quality of the food! Amazing! Well done Team Carisma!

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
|
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
