Cap's On the Water St. Augustine Reviews from The Last Year
May vacation 2024
Caps was my favorite restaurant in Florida This trip done me in There prices tripled They removed some best items from menu I used to would drive out of my way to eat there no more 15.75 for bowl she crab soup I will look elsewhere in future Even charging 6 dollars for basket bread I don’t know what they are thinking This no 5 diamond restaurant
Great location.
Beautiful views of the ICW. Clean. Enjoyable breeze off the water. Great service. I know. I know. Then why only three stars? The food. Specifically, the quality and the prices. The chicken sandwich (Almost $19) was embarrassingly dry and tough, Chewey, thin chicken breasts. Our table had two orders. Neither person could finish, it was so bad. Next was the simple watermelon salad $18. It was as follows; bed of Arugula, three tomato slices. Each with a slice of mozzarella and slice of watermelon (just slightly larger than of a large domino) with some balsamic glaze drizzle. Tasty but, seriously, $18?? The blackened grouper catch of the day plate came with a scoop of mashed potatoes and three carrots....$42!! Bottom line: Beautiful venue Great service. But, hit and miss on food quality and you pay for the venue experience with the higher menu prices. Oh, parking is "free" Valet only. So, expect to to pay parking (tip)
TALK ABOUT A GORGEOUS LOCATION! Everything here was laid
TALK ABOUT A GORGEOUS LOCATION! Everything here was laid out so perfectly from start to finish. When you drive up to the location, the estimated wait time is displayed outside the parking lot so you are aware of the wait time before you park. There is free valet parking. The wait was estimated to be 120 minutes (we came on Mother's Day, so I get it). There is a beautiful dock area with a few servers that is specifically to enjoy cocktails and appetizers while you wait for your table. Our wait was actually 75 minutes for waterfront seating so that was a nice surprise. Our server was the nicest :) he explained the menu very well and gave some great recommendations. I'm going to be honest, I saw a menu picture on Yelp from a few months ago detailing that there were Dungeness crab legs but they didn't have that this time around. So I guess they must have recently changed their menu. I snapped some pictures of the menu for my fellow Yelpers to not be misled like I was. ALAS, the lack of crab legs did not ruin my mood because this place was just THAT great. We ordered a she crab soup (SO GOOD), the Oysters Rockefeller, grilled octopus, and we split a sesame seared tuna (MP was $42). We got a little rum cake and molten lava cake to take home for dessert as we were stuffed. Those were divine! I would definitely come back here and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for a fancy date night :)
Very nice outdoor patio overlooking intracoastal waters
Very nice outdoor patio overlooking intracoastal waters with lots of boat activity. We Had the Carmenet Chardonnay and beer. No hard liquor until 1 pm. parm fries, grilled salmon entre And pesto salad. Coconut cake since it was my birthday. No special fanfare for birthdays. Food and server Olivia were excellent. A little pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
Awesome experience.
The view is fantastic and our server really took his time to connect with us. Food was delicious and would definitely recommend!
Love caps! Service has always been great in my experience,
Love caps! Service has always been great in my experience, food is always cooked to order and have never had any quality issues. The sunsets are pretty here and I love the little dock to wait and have a drink until your table is ready. It can get noisy on really busy nights but it still has a bit of an intimate atmosphere to it due to the location. It's a great date night spot. Another favorite in this area.

Love this place mostly because of its vibe, design, and river view. But the menu is delicious, have a fresh catch. I was surprised it was opened in 1947, and that restaurant has about 500 types of wine selection. Our company had st augustine oysters and gator tails as appetizers, then we ordered salmon, tuna, and flounder. The last one was a bit dry. Cream brulle and rum cake were great addition to our diner. Complimentary valet parking. Or dock for boats. Service great. Waited for a riverfront table about 10 mins.

Prefect atmosphere if you are looking for a nice spot on the water. Great seafood, great date, and the service has always been good.
Cap's and Florida
Absolutely amazing experience with lovely river views. Bar with Zane and crew. Had Calamari, Blackened scallops and chocolate martini. Experience was unbelievable with the water. Sunset and water delightful!

Caps on the Water: A Seafood Gem Rating: 100/10 My recent dining experience at Caps on the Water was beyond exceptional. The freshness and flavor of the fish were unparalleled, leaving me eager to return for more. In fact, I couldn't resist visiting twice during my two-day stay, and each meal surpassed the last. As someone very picky with fish, I was pleasantly surprised by the Salmon I ordered and almost wanted seconds! My wife's Cod was equally delightful. The fish, along with the fries and appetizers, were toe-curling in their deliciousness. The staff at Caps on the Water are a true asset, embodying kindness and a genuine eagerness to ensure a delightful dining experience. Their recommendations on fish preparation were spot-on, showcasing their expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction. I must commend the complementary valet service, which added to the overall convenience and comfort of my visit. The valets were not only courteous but also appreciative of tips, reflecting a culture of gratitude that permeates the entire establishment. A special shoutout to Branden, my waiter, whose exceptional service and kindness enhanced my dining experience. His attentiveness and helpfulness were truly remarkable. The view was absolutely amazing. We were able to get a table on the waterfront which was super relaxing as well as really added to the ambience. I loved being able to sit outside underneath the trees and listen to the water as we ate. It just added Overall, Caps on the Water exceeded my expectations in every way. From the delectable seafood to the friendly staff, this restaurant deserves a rating of 100/10. I can't wait to return!
Fabulous place.
No reservations though. Food was wonderful especially the shrimp and oysters. Wait staff was pleasant and engaged is in chatter. We are returning again tonight!
First the prices of their food on the Yelp menu are about
First the prices of their food on the Yelp menu are about 40% less then the real prices. I paid $17 for a Old Fashion with house bourbon not $12 as the menu on Yelp says. Their appetizers, except for one or two are all over $20. Their specials are $40. A dozen local oysters are $38. I've been going there for 12 years but can no longer afford their prices. Food prices percentage wise have gone up substantially less than what Caps increase in prices have. Sorry but not going to pay $180 for 4 drinks, one appetizer and two main courses.
WAY OVERPRICED
We had not been to Cap's in three years. Went back and yes the view is amazing, but they should be embarrassed how much they charge for appetizers. The cheapest appetizer is $14 and its fries. The calamari is just a small serving and all chopped up, $19.25 ($20) the pear ravioli was 3 tiny moonshined ravioli - it was $22. The fish entrees were good, but they are from $35-$42. I think they charge a lot for appetizers because they think people go and have a drink and starter so they up the price. It really is very pricey. We've gone to some new very nice places in St. Augustine and Jax Beach and the appetizers are not this much and better tasting along with a larger amount. I''m not even a big eater and I was shocked how much it was and such a small appetizer amount. Three of us had a bottle of white wine to share house and our other friend had water. The bill was almost $500. It was just nuts.
Atmosphere was good, but food didn't quite measure up to the expected tastes....
Cap's Old Fashioned was the best in a while..It was made the "old fashioned right way"...Disappointed in "she crab soup" prep. Not as smooth a presentation as the last time we were there..Also, not even a hint of sherry taste..We did get to eat outside...That was good...All in all,it was O.K. but not great...We'll be back and hope for better results....
Experience
Beautiful location on the water server amanda was great prices not so good $35 for a grouper sandwich and 8 dollars for a michelob ultra 17 bucks for a mixed drink when my friends were here before the said it was resonable no more if you dont mind dropping a 100 bucks for lunch great location great service food was ok like everywher else not sure if ill return would have loved to sit at the tiki bar and enjoy the afternoon but not at 8 bucks a beer
Beautiful View
Set on the Tolomato River, the view is gorgeous. Our server, Branden, was terrific. He was personable and attentive. I had the honey rosemary salmon with a port cranberry reduction and honey-roasted Brussels sprouts. My life had the beet and goat cheese salad and bread service. We both loved everything! I even had a great glass of pinot noir. If we were not moving out of Florida, we would definitely return!
Enjoy the sunset then eat elsewhere
Ok - the sunset view is amazing. If you go, our recommendation is to skip dinner, grab a drink from the bar (it’s going to be pricey!) and head to their dock to watch the sunset, then leave and go somewhere else for dinner. It is very expensive for the quality of food you get. We ended up leaving after the appetizer because they were so average and there was nothing on the menu I wanted to spend money on. Also, it is first come first serve on tables. If you want dinner, don’t believe their time estimate for how long until a seat opens up - it’s much SHORTER.
Go for a sunset dinner!
Friendly service, great food and drinks. The view, especially at sunset time, is priceless! We hope to be back soon!!!!
Wonderful food and service.
The food was outstanding and get the she crab soup as a starter, it was fabulous. The smoked fish dip was also very tasty and great to share. The service was very good, well paced meal and the waiter very helpful and knowledgeable about the food and options. I had the blackened catch of the day and the sweet curry sauce was not overpowering nor was the blackening. Others had theirs as the crusted catch and loved it. We were visiting friends who leave in the area and this is their favorite spot. We couldn't agree more. Will be back when in the area again.
Still great, but way too expensive
I have been going to Cap’s since the 80’s. The food has evolved over the years, and it has always been a wonderful experience, but it has gotten ridiculously expensive. Drinks and appetizers averaging $20 and above. My husband and I went for lunch, we had 3 appetizers, 4 drinks and a beer and it was $160. Makes me sad one of our favorite spots has priced itself out of a go to for us.

Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate

Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Yes unfortunately they are finding more and more ways to lock up sellers money. Sell thru rate, refund rate, limiting withdrawal amounts ler day and per month (which for me are the same number which makes no sense). Lot of sellers leaving as you can see from the lifetime sales not really increasing. Most posts on here are frustrated sellers which is not a recipe for success

I’m sorry to hear about this - I’m a brand new seller on the platform and didn’t realize this was a *thing* - any chance you can point me to the fine print/documentation where this policy is stated (also identifying other caveats like this would be appreciated)?
