This place is just trying too hard and not quite hitting the nail on the head. On entering it has a cool low lighting Japanese style vibe, with wood lanterns and plants - actually quite a romantic little place I thought - then I noticed the Manga art which I thought "ok that just doesn't really work with the rest of the vibe - and am I not in a Spanish tapas restaurant here?" Then on looking at the menu I realised that actually they are trying to do this Spanish/Japanese fusion type thing - they have some traditional looking things on the menu as well as sashimi dishes "hmmm... Ok". So we make our order - keeping to the more traditional Spanish looking dishes as that's why we've come here... Our croquettes arrived first, "good start" I thought - crispy on the outside creamy on the inside. Then the octopus arrived and we were quite disappointed it was a cold dish, served on guacamole with sweet potato crisps I believe they were - not at all traditional Spanish - but interesting combination non the less... Then it pretty much went downhill from there, the scallops, though cooked very well, lacked flavour and didn't taste particularly fresh and the other dishes whilst inventive with presentation and flavour, just didn't really work for me - especially the pil pil garlic prawns in white wine - which tasted more like prawns dipped in chorizo sauce, bizarrely enough. The thing that threw me the most about this place were the toilets - all covered in manga art with a wooden box of tissues from "hogwarts school of wizardry" - it just didn't seem to fit with the romantic candle lit restaurant vibe at all?!Overall whilst I had a decent enough meal - I don't think I'll be rushing here anytime soon. I think they're experimental Spanish/Japanese Tapas fusion doesn't quite work - but I appreciate that they're trying really hard!
