Day 2 bar empty., 3 staff on, took 15 mins for then to notice my drink was empty. To busy flirting with the only yank guy in the bar. Philippine chick's looking for a husband. My God, it's sad to watch. I just want a drink
Be the first to ReplyWorst dining experience I’ve ever had at this price point
One of the absolute worst dining experiences I have ever experienced. We were staying near by at a luxury 5 star resort and didn’t pay nearly as much as we did at canoe house. Decided on the chef’s course and received absolute dog sh*t. Cold cream based soup that was solidified over with over toasted french toast and caviar. A mediocre herb salad, no salt ahi tuna and abalone. The short rib was the best thing but also something I could’ve made at home - they provided 3 inch full stalk green onions which is insane to get a mouthful of onion to provide acidity against the rust short rib. Both of our chef table meals were $180/each for one of the worst meals I’ve ever had at that price point. We at staying at the four seasons and meals are better and cheaper. What a scam. Manager should replace the chef and reorient his prices so it doesn’t go into his pocket - his waitstaff and bussers (who are phenomenal) should not have to suffer due to his poor decisions. Pete (the resort GM) should look into caring about the quality of his overpriced sh*t food and his employees rather than caring about what goes into his own pocket. I’ve never felt more ripped off - go to local restaurants in Kona like Seijis sushi or Umekes and support local businesses vs this money squeezing fraud….

Watched a lovely sunset along with a lovely dinner. Chris, was our server and described details of any dish. We ended up with the radish salad, lobster tempura and curry shrimp entree. The star was really the garlic fried rice. I know, how good could it be? It’s really amazing and fragrant, try it! There is no parking, as most of the resorts do not allow it. You have to valet for this restaurant and they validate up to 3 hours. Make sure you get your ticket stamped at the hostess stand.

Food was horrible. Oysters were rancid…they took them yet still charged me for them on my bill. Very disappointed. Not sure where those who ranked it high have eaten before but this was a 2 only because the waited was attentive but still left rancid oysters on my tab.

The Canoe House IS an experience. I’m not a fancy restaurant person and was nervous looking through the menu but our server Jhamur made this a night not to forget. The bread was the best ever and the food was amazing but it was his service and his stories that made this night we won’t forget. Only thing is using Google Maps doesn’t get you there. You must valet. Once inside the hotel, walk down the steps, go towards the right and then walk towards the beach. It’s hard to know it’s the restaurant until you are right there. Cheers!

Canoe House is an exceptional restaurant with delicious food and absolutely stunning views. The staff was personable and attentive. This was by far the best meal we had during our week on the island!
Be the first to ReplyTreated so poorly, we'll never return
Ugh. Last night my husband and I had 7:45 reservations. Food was meh, service worse. After our meal we wanted dessert. A server came and took away our silverware. Then... nothing. No one came back to our table. We had to get up to ask for the check. Tried to talk to manager, but everyone just said, You want dessert? We can get you dessert. Not the point. Were we disappointed. We live on island and stayed at Mauna Lani as a staycay treat, and this Canoehouse experience ruined the whole vibe. Maybe because we're kama'aina (locals) they feel they can treat us poorly. I'll tell you, locals have a lot of clout when it comes to reviews. I intend to use it.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely a 5-star restaurant!
This is a wonderful restaurant for couples or family. My wife and I dined here with our son and his family. We started out with our favorite Grey Goose vodka martini; very dry, straight up and with a wedge of lime on the rim. Prepared and served just as we like it. We accompanied this with Poke-Style Sashimi...really good. For our main course, we split the 8 oz prime tenderloin (see photo). This was absolutely delicious and prepared rare just as we asked. Wow! Too bad we live in North Carolina...we would go there more often.
Be the first to ReplyThe Perfect Place to Celebrate my Birthday!
We had an unforgettable dinner at the CanoeHouse to celebrate my birthday. Ian was our waiter and I cannot say enough wonderful things about him. His dinner suggestions were right on and he never missed a beat in making sure that we were well cared for throughout our dinner. We opted for the tasting menu which was perfect. I made our reservation for an hour before sunset. We were the first table seated, so we had excellent views as the sky turned various shades of blue, pink, orange, purple and finally deep red. It was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday!
Be the first to ReplyDo not get the lobster!
We enjoyed our dinner, except for one very overpriced one claw lobster. For $100, my husband was expecting two claws and a bit of wow. It as cooked just fine, but not worth the money. I ordered the lamb chops and they were great, four nice perfectly cooked chops. We should have split them and ordered a side dish. Mind you, we mentioned we both hate beets and the side dish with the lamb has beets! They were easy to pick out. We did share the deep fried mushrooms that were very good and I had four oysters. I love oysters, but $7 each, overpriced, but they were very good. Lol - I forget what he order, but he did like it. Wine list very overpriced, but we found a cab franc that 2.5 the retail price. We have been here a couple of times 15 years ago and this place was a solid 5 and a wow. Not so much these days.
Be the first to ReplyFancy with a view.
Yes, the tasting menu and wines will set you back $300/person, but this is the idea behind such a meal. Very unique and novel courses. Yes, a single entree and a glass of wine gets you the view and experience, too, for a more normal “$plurge.” Oh, go to get the full sunset view, which is early for this month.

This is our favorite restaurant on the Islands . I recommend making a reservation an hour before sunset. Be prepared for an amazing view with great service. We started with their signature bread. This year we had Indie as our server and she gave us plenty of time to relax and enjoy the meal and the view. She made great recommendations. I had the Ono with macadamian crusted King crab . My wife had the catch of the day . We had a nice bottle of wine and pleasant conversation with Indie . We will book a month before return next year .
