Expensive Food - Lackluster experience
Food good (not great). Service bad. The place is very small. Way too expensive for what you get and the experience. You order after scanning the menu on the QR code at the table. You create a tab and add to that. Other than being seated, we did all the ordering and deciding work. No one ever checked in on us or asked us about our experience. Had to ask for water for the table after 10 minutes and later remind them about my drink (after food started arriving). Food did arrive promptly, but not all together. Jerk appetizer was nice. Oxtail decent w/ fancy presentation, but not better tasting than your popular "hole in the wall" joint. The omnivore platter a little confusing but my family member seemed to enjoy. The curry chicken was fine...not spectacular other than the cute tiered presentation. The rum punch was strong, but not tasty and fruity. Overall, not worth the $220 for 3 people (only one drink and no dessert) for the lackluster, disinterested service, over priced food and cramped experience.

Travelled and ate my way through New York, Baltimore and DC the last few days. Some upper end posh places, some pub grubs. Last day in US and I heard about this place in a bar the night before departure. Itโs a local-ish neighborhood cafe style place nuthinโ fancy, near Union St Station. Small team working hard it seems in the kitchen. Authentic Caribbean dishes packed with flavor and spices that donโt overpower but enhance and compliment each other. Met Juwan the guy with the kitchen and his philosophy explains the mix. Wonโt go into it heat but heโs open and available if itโs not busy. I had lunch. Jerk Wings, almost black and sprinkled with herbs on a sliver tray with a light film of oil with a light dip. The Geera Belly Porkโฆ cubes of the tenderest belly ever, delicately flavored. You can check the menu online but it wonโt help as the stuff is on another level. Ohโฆ Iโm ethnically qualified to comment on the cuisine btw ๐

Best Caribbean food in DC. Everything on the menu is delicious, but I come for the oxtail. You can't go wrong with this place. They also have a great rum selection.

Family owned restaurant. I used to eat in before Covid and now get delivery on a regular basis. Waiting for it to open again. Oxtails and wings are delicious! Generous servings; delicious food.

Outstanding wings and doubles made me happy ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐. I ordered for pick up and also purchased the Cow Heel soup for my Mom. Great flavor all around.

Tiny tables for great food. This place is highly packed (and quite noisy) and has an online waiting list (but no reservations). Itโs not always easy to find a spot but itโs worth the try! Very interesting Caribbean food served in many small pots and dishes altogether. The meat, potatoes and side bread were remarkable. The staff is adorable and very eager to help you out if you have any questions on the dishes. Well done to the team, yummy!

C|A|N|E is an amazing restaurant. It's small in size, with small tables, so the management has designed everything to make it work. The paratha tiffin boxes are a must for anyone who likes curry. Omnivore and herbavore versions are available. The omnivore tiffin box featured chicken, beef, potato, and channa (chickpea) curries, as well as chutneys and sauces. They come to the table in stacked boxes, and it made a great presentation as our waitress disassembled the stack and explained which each box contained. The flavors were just spicy enough, a perfect curry. At $42 it's a great deal, since the boxes contain more than enough food for two. (We took some home!) We also got the doubles, which is fried bread and cumin spiced chickpeas. The bread pudding for dessert featured a caramel sauce and rum soaked raisins, a perfect end to an flavorful meal. C|A|N|E is an exciting addition to H Street. But go early. They don't take reservations, and this small restaurant fills up fast. Can't wait to go back!
