A Michelin Star Peranakan Cuisine
Candlenut Modern Peranakan is a renowned establishment that has earned the prestigious accolade of one Michelin star, showcasing its excellence in modern Peranakan cuisine. Entering Candlenut, guests are greeted with a blend of contemporary elegance and traditional Peranakan charm. The restaurant's décor features a tasteful mix of dark wood, intricate tile work, and subtle lighting, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The seating is comfortable, and the layout allows for an intimate dining experience, perfect for both couples and small groups. Service at Candlenut is impeccable, characterized by attentiveness and genuine hospitality. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu, readily offering recommendations and explaining the intricate flavors of Peranakan cuisine. Each dish is presented with care, and the service strikes a balance between professionalism and warmth, enhancing the overall dining experience. The highlight of Candlenut is undoubtedly its modern interpretation of Peranakan cuisine, known for its rich flavors and diverse influences. Chef Malcolm Lee's creations skillfully combine traditional Peranakan recipes with contemporary techniques, resulting in dishes that are both innovative and deeply rooted in heritage. For anyone seeking a taste of Singapore's culinary heritage with a contemporary twist, Candlenut Modern Peranakan stands as a must-visit destination.
Good food ans nice environment
Had a delightful meal here with friends. Food was sensational, everything was so good. We were a but early for our booking and our table wasn't redy. But waiter offered an outdoor table in the terrace. It wasn't too hot so we took it. Even better if weather is nice. Wine list was also impressive with options that go well with Parenakan food. Will definitely come back again.

It’s really nice place to eat , very very nice atmosphere, foods and services really nice , I would like recommend everyone, please visit ones
Fantastic unique food and service
Really special food - traditional fusion of Malay and Chinese. Many of the dishes were incredible and new to us. All so perfectly done. We had a lot of food in Singapore, some great, some terrible, and this was by far the best. We had the tasting menu - amazing.
Exquisite but unpretentious food, service and atmosphere.
Recommend as a must visit experience on impeccable quality of food, service and atmosphere. I ordered the “Ah-ma-kase” tasting menu and would highly recommend this option if you want to experience the full and diverse spectrum of the restaurant’s specialties and come with an appetite. If possible and if you are lucky enough you will have Rosalind as your hostess / server. She provided exquisite service and is an expert at navigating you through the restaurants extensive food and beverage menu and creating a bespoke and memorable experience.

For my birthday we took a trip to Singapore and on the special day My husband made a reservation at Candlenut. We had spent the morning at the nearby Orchid Gardens and walked over to candle nut for lunch. The restaurant itself is nestled in a plaza that had a few shops and other restaurants. I quickly learned though that you shouldn't walk in Singapore outdoors for too long. It is extremely hot! We had a reservation and were seated quickly upon arrival. The front desk greeted us warmly. The restaurant itself shares and indoor space with other restaurants similar to the hawkers you find all over Singapore. Our server was very friendly and helpful with our selection. He had some good recommendations. To start, we had a crunchy shrimp salad that was incredibly flavorful and refreshing on a hot day. Next I ordered the curry crab and was a bit concerned it would be too spicy but overall it was very tasty. For someone who does not always eat spicy food it was tolerable and yet still delicious. We also had the black squid ink dish which was a very unique and delicious flavor. It had a slight lime tartness to it that was refreshing and very memorable. Last but not least, I had the chendol dessert. It had all the components of a traditional chendol but yet also a modern twist with sago and other delicious goodies. The experience was absolutely amazing. There's also an option for prefix menu, however we just weren't up for that much food. Maybe next time I'll come prepared with a larger appetite. Overall, we loved our meal and it made our trip very special. I wouldn't expect anything less from a Michelin star restaurant in Singapore.
Lovely
Great restaurant. Lovely setting, attentive staff, kindly catered to our dietary requirements. Chicken curry was a highlight
Lunch and the location both fantastic.
Never disappoints at Candlenut. Staff attentive and the food is gorgeous in a beautiful setting. We will definitely be back again.
We decided to have some fancy meals as well during our stay
We decided to have some fancy meals as well during our stay in Singapore! Candlenut is the first Michelin star Peranakan restaurant in the world and we were excited to give them a try. We made a reservation for dinner and were promptly seated upon arrival. The restaurant is located far from downtown, but getting to the area was easy thanks to the great bus system. The staff were all friendly and courteous. Our server was knowledgeable about items on the menu and made sure we were enjoying our dining experience. The ambience was very fancy and classy. We decided to get the tasting menu, "ah-ma-kase", which was 13 tapas sized dishes priced at $138 SGD. This includes appetizers, main courses, and desserts. The dishes were all delicious and I had a great time sampling everything. My favorites would be the Roti Jala with Beef Kapitan Curry, Udang Nanas and Yeye's Curry with Crab. Overall, Candlenut was a fantastic visit and we enjoyed their tasting menu of Peranakan cuisine. I definitely recommend them if you're able to splurge a little more during your visit to Singapore.
Amazing flavor
Absolutely amazing food. It was fantastic and delicious. Service was very good. The location is a little bit outside of the downtown area- not easily accessible by public transit, but a taxi is only about $10-15 usd from the city center. Highly recommend the tasting menu. It was the perfect amount of food and a delicious collection of different flavors.
Stunning, excellent, scrumptious.
Food was excellent. Service was good as well. Interior decorations were cute. Amazingly priced for the quality.
Memorable Peranakan dinning experience
Went there for Peranakan dining experience. The service is exemplary, with attentive staff ensuring a pleasant meal. Convenient parking adds to the ease of access. The food is undeniably delicious, with authentic flavors that tantalize the taste buds. However, while the atmosphere could be enhanced, and a broader range of food choices would be appreciated, the overall experience remains memorable for its impeccable service and mouthwatering dishes.
Fine dining restaurant that was good but not great
Fine dining restaurant that has option of tasting menu or a la carte. I went with option 2 and ordered crab omelette and chicken curry. Presentation. Was great and food was good but felt didn’t live up to the hype. Restaurant has great ambience.
Brilliant - as always.
As always the food and service was impeccable.Only downside - people wearing flip flops. Come on folks, we can do better than that!
Everything about Candlenut was outstanding.
5 stars isn't enough. The entire staff was exceptional. My sister and I had the extraordinary Felix take care of us, who went above and beyond his service of us! Hats off to Chef -- amazing food! Our experience at Candlenut was phenomenal. Thank you!
Enjoyable first experience of peranakan cooking
We had a very enjoyable evening in this Michelin guide restaurant sampling peranakan cuisine for the first time, a wonderful fusion of Malaysian , Indonesian and Chinese cooking. The restaurant had a relaxed vibe and with friendly and attentive staff. We were not hungry enough to attempt the multicouse ah mah kase menu so opted for 2 starters of Ngoh Hiang and Pork Satay from the à la carte and these were delicious. Then we had two mains of Chefs Mum’s chicken curry and Beef Rendang and these were superb. Pricing for these dishes was reasonable but entry level wine is expensive at $110 Overall highly recommended although about 30 mins taxi ride from central Singapore
Unique and one of its kind for Michelin level peranakan food. Great for visitors who love SE Asian cuisine.
A very special and unique dining experience. Excellent service from staff who are passionate about peranakan cuisine. We learnt loads about the flavours and cooking styles. My parents (who used to live in Asia) loved every moment and the staff were super kind and attentive to them in particular. Massively recommended if you are looking for something a little different but authentic.
Exceptional, memorable meal
Everything was divine, the drinks, the food and the service. Will be dreaming of the wingbean salad, auntys chicken curry, ramen and desserts until our next visit. Our friends had recommended Candlenut to us and we are so glad we booked in advance as it is the best restaurant we’ve had the pleasure of dining at in Singapore. As frequent visitors to Singapore we have visited quite a few.
Dined a la carte at Candlenut, the first Michelin starred
Dined a la carte at Candlenut, the first Michelin starred Peranakan restaurant. Experience was pretty good - the ambient lighting from the straw lanterns was a nice touch. Seating was in a shared space with other restaurants - the plus side was it felt really open and inviting. Menu was definitely flavor rich - the highlights were the crab omelette and the crab curry. The omelette was fluffy and light but retained the delicate crab flavoring and the curry was loaded with fragrant spices. Recommend you to make a reservation if dining on weekends but there were plenty of seating so walk-ins may not be an issue.
Such a lovely experience for elevated Peranakan at
Such a lovely experience for elevated Peranakan at Candlenut! We booked dinner here and ordered the ahmakase which is a set course menu served family style. The food here is feels homey and modern at the same time with unique touches on traditional dishes. Some standouts included the lobster kueh pie which was an explosion of flavor, the wagyu satay beef and the crab curry. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked and. I'd definitely recommend Candlenut to anyone visiting Singapore wanting to get a taste of Peranakan cuisine in an upscale setting. Everything from the ambiance to food to service was exceptional!
Splendid Service
Splendid service! I was there, by myself, at the end of the lunch service just before the staff went off to their Christmas party. ... and still the staff were wonderful, attentive without being intrusive, clearly passionate about the food and the experience. Making sure that everyone felt welcome - even a solo Ozzie there at an inconvenient time. The food was good too. Varied, flavourful and full of subtlety. A Michelin starred restaurant specialising in the local cuisine. Well worth a visit for that alone. But I have eaten in a lot of top class restaurants - and this time I will remember the staff and how dedicated they were to the experience long after the memory of the food has blurred. The staff we simply outstanding.
Great dinner
We had dinner here. A truly enjoyable experience. A cuisine we had not eaten before presented in many small dishes to share at a reasonable price and with very friendly and swift service. Not all dishes necessarily hit the mark but the blue swimmer crab curry was awesome and when we told the waiter we are crazy about this dish, he brought us another helping. Great service. Impressive wine menu. Only point of critique was that so many different dishes were brought out at the same time that they got cold before we ate them all. Plate warmers would have helped. Also, the dishes were mixed in terms of fish/meat and spices and flavours that it was really difficult to find a matching wine. You almost had to have a red and a white on your table at the same time to drink with the changing dishes.
Came by for dinner the other night and it was a tasty
Came by for dinner the other night and it was a tasty experience. Candlenut is a Michelin 1 star Peranaken cuisine located on Dempey Rd with a bus stop right in front of the community. Parking is plentiful and there are numerous exotic European vehicles in the parking lot. The restaurant itself was a touch hard to find although buildings were marked and there was signage outside each venue. Once inside, the restaurant appears to be connected to the other restaurants next to it with no physical barriers besides random furnishings. A significant portion of the clientele appeared to be foreigners. Service throughout the evening was top notch with the waiter taking care to explain each and every dish. There were also very minute service details that I was surprised that the service staff were able to catch on to, including addressing me by name. Opted for the tasting menu and it was a huge feast. The appetizers were perfect small bites although I found it odd that some of the pieces were merely lukewarm... The soup course was tasty, although having a big bowl of hot soup in humid Singapore was a touch difficult. For the main courses, there were ~5 entrees where the flavors were vibrant and bold. Quality of ingredients were top tier including crab, fish, and pork jowl. Portions were gigantic and I was merely able to finish less than half! The desserts were generous as there were 3! Definitely different than typical desserts. I love that they weren't too sweet! $172 after GST & 10% service for dinner.
Good Peranakan Food!
A very nice experience for my family and I. The food and service were good. The food portions were a bit small but nontheless, it was enough for 4 of us. The chefs have brought a twist to Peranakan food. The desserts are to die for.
Disappointing and Disappointment
Dinner was disappointing. I attended dinner with a few American guests who are visiting Singapore for the first time. A morning tour at the shop houses of Emerald Hills acted as a build up for Peranakan dishes so everyone was excited. All of us have multiple prior Michelin Starred restaurant experiences so we know the benchmarks. Experience: Immediately after being seated , some of us felt that the A/C vent above our table was blowing too hard. The lanterns were swaying. One of the guests had a nice bare shoulder dress and had to switch seats. I had to inform our server about it and AC was turned down. Normal restaurant may be forgiven but not a Michelin one. Chairs have a rattan cheap feel , light weight and uncomfortable. One of us was bitten by a mosquito while eating. I understand that we are in Dempsey area but sheesh. I had to leave my seat and whisper to the server to turn up the AC again to hopefully remove the mosquito. The worst of all, there was a private event of some kind happening in the same hall blasting music, people yelling and dancing. I was so pissed and embarrassed for my overseas guests that I had to make excuses that maybe the food will speak for itself . Service Another disappointment. The older gentleman serving us can barely speak fluent English. No explanation of dishes and ingredients as you would typically find in an establishment of this stature. His compatriot was more knowledgeable but I had to prompt her into explaining what the Buah Keluak fruit is and how our Buah Keluak fried rice is made. There is no scraping of crumbs off table and serving of dishes have no coordination or purpose. The overall feel is no different from eating at any typical restaurant. Food We ordered anything that was recommended and almost everything on the menu. Besides the black colored Buah Keluak fried rice ( after my intentional prompt to fish a broken Singlish story out of the server to explain how the poisonous Buah Keluak is used to cook it) nothing stands out. In my opinion, the chicken in Mama’s curry should have been boneless and presented more beautifully. Our drumstick had gristle in it….which was a big turnoff. None of us enjoyed our dinner. Afterthought I find myself having to make excuses throughout the meal to defend my dinner choice and back the restaurant who fell flat to impress my guests. We only had time for 3 planned dinners in Singapore and this one failed us. We would understand if this were one of the Michelin cheap eats but our dinner bill doesn’t reflect that. I wished I had picked another location for a better experience.
Oh my goodness.
Once I saw Candlenut's set menu while planning my trip, I knew I had to try it and it absolutely did not disappoint! I'm a little surprised to see how low the reviews are on Yelp but I personally thought it was worth every dollar of the ahmakase experience. Pretty much every dish was delicious in my opinion, I only had critique for two - the salad needed more acid and the braised beef dish was a little tough. I also loved being introduced to Peranakan cuisine and Chef Malcolm certainly got his point across. Some dishes felt quite familiar actually because of the Chinese influence like the Pig Maw Soup which was milky and creamy from the pork bone broth and the Gula Melaka Fudge which reminded me of one of my favorite Chinese New Year dishes because of the heavy use of palm sugar which has a delightful caramel flavor with some vanilla undertones. A couple dishes really stood out to me - 1. Kueh Pie Tee: a traditional Peranakan dish which featured a delicate pastry cup filled with sweet lobster amongst other fillings. It was a one biter that was a very exiting start to the journey 2. Ketam Sayur Masak Lemak: a curry filled with hunks of the SWEETEST blue swimmer crab meat! It. Was. Heavenly! It also featured their housemade sambal which really elevated the dish! 3. Cincalok Pork: the pork jowl meat is already a delicious cut that is naturally crisp, but to have it marinated in Candlenut's homemade fermented shrimp paste? WOW. Admittedly, you have to like the funkiness of shrimp paste but the end result was buttery and the pork was just so so good. 4. Pengat Pisang: the dessert was sweet yet refreshing! I also liked all the textural play in this dish. The bananas, coconut, and palm sugar all played up the tropical touch too and was perfect for Singapore. At no point during my meal did I feel rushed even as a solo diner. Each dish was described impeccably and the staff always waited to ensure that I was ready for the next step. Even though they tell you the menu is just small dishes, after 13 of them, I certainly felt more than satisfied! SGD $175 for the set menu, a drink, and the service charge. Candlenut is the only Michelin starred Peranakan restaurant so it was truly a unique experience!
Delicious and stylish
First visited pre Covid and loved this restaurant. So pleased to see everything is as good in 2023 as back in 2017. The chicken curry was mouthwatering as was the spicy fish and the refreshingly light yet tasty salads. Loved the welcoming service and colonial style gracious building.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
