Very Good Find
In town for business and found this neighborhood gem. Atmosphere is unique and very welcoming. Food (baby back ribs) were very good and nicely presented. Highly recommend.

This is a great restaurant! We came here with a large group last year while in town for a conference and we had great service. They specialize in Southern cooking and all of the dishes are full of flavor and very filling. The portions are reasonable (it is Southern cooking, so you don't want a gigantic portion) and they're mostly serviced in cast iron skillets. We shared a bunch of these, so it felt like a Southern-style tapas, which was very fun; we tried some fried chicken, mac and cheese, honey glazed biscuits, beef short rib, and a few others and they were all very tasty. The drink selection was good and I enjoyed a local IPA while mostly everyone else got cocktails, all of which they loved. It's a nice place overall and one that we would visit again!

The food was the best restaurant food I have had in a very long time. I had the baby back ribs, macaroni salad and roasted tomatoes. Everything was seasoned perfectly. Service was excellent. Pricing was very reasonable. Would have given 5 stars but didn’t like the payment system they have for large parties.

Dined here on a recent visit to Boston. Everything was on point, including the food, drinks, and service. The chicken wings were amazing, but the biscuits and brisket Mac & Cheese emerge great too. Glad we made reservations here and experienced this restaurant.

Wonderful restaurant in a very nice neighborhood. We opted for outdoor seating, but the inside was also very cute. The menu had just recently been changed to the summer menu, and the server implied that the menu was more of a shared plates affair. However, we opted to go with a shared salad and individual plates, both of which were delicious. Hubby got the NEW ORLEANS BBQ SHRIMP (creamy jalapeno grits, holy trinity, andouille sausage), $15. He said it was one of the most delicious and creative shrimp dishes he has ever had. I opted for MUSTARD GLAZED BABY BACK RIBS (macaroni salad, roasted tomato relish) $15. The macaroni salad was Cajun style so there was a bit of a kick to it. I had at least 5 small baby back ribs. One of my ribs was over cooked, but the rest were perfect. The plates were not large servings, but when sharing a salad there was more than enough food for two. It had been a warm humid day, and I chose the restaurant's house-made soft-serve ice cream flavor of the day. The portion was meant for two to share, but my hubby opted for the PEACH COBBLER BREAD PUDDING (bourbon caramel, candied pecans, cinnamon creme fraiche) $12. Overall, we were very glad we took the walk from our hotel (.7 miles, one way) to get to Buttermilk and Bourbon. The only con? My husband wanted a beer and when asked what was available, the server pointed to the Beers menu. Hubby ordered the HIGH NOON LEMON, $8 which was listed on the Beers menu. It turned out to be a canned vodka and soda drink. When we told the server that it wasn't a beer, she acknowledged that it wasn't and that for some reason it was on the Beers menu, but acted like it was my husband's mistake for ordering it. We had to insist that he wanted a beer and not vodka and soda. They did exchange it, but that was a weird experience. The restaurant should revise their menu or train their servers about what is wrongly listed on the menu so that this type of incident does not happen.
Be the first to ReplyA good dinner spot, with a touch of the South
A local pointed us toward the BM&B for an early dinner on a Saturday. First impressions were dubious: the restaurant is located in a brownstone basement; the wire chairs were not very comfortable and the menu was relatively short and seemed like it had a lot of spicy items. But after a little while, helped by a patient waitress, we realized that the menu was intended to be ordered from as a number of small plates (rather like a Spanish-style tapas). After some study, we finally plunged in -- ordering the salmon, the burger sliders, the superb biscuits, fried chicken, deviled egg toast, and one or two other items. The food selections were all very good, and it was nice to be able to sample a number of different items. And the biscuits were superb, did I say that already? It was a pleasant surprise to find delicious southern-style biscuits so far north. Dinner for four including tax and tip came out to about $157 -- expensive, but not out of line for Boston dining prices. Overall, a great find that I'll look forward to visiting again the next time we're in the area. Note: there's no parking lot for the BM&B, so we dropped off two of our party near the corner and the rest of us parked at the nearby 200 Newbury Garage (two blocks away) and walked to the restaurant. Street parking around the area seems to be reserved for residents.
Be the first to ReplyIt was good…but…
Okay, the food was VERY good. It’s a little different, southern tapas, but each of our six choices was great. But…*sigh*…the little things were tough. The beer was warm. The silverware had stuff in it and we had to clean it. The outside was nice, but the servers had tables all over, so catching someone’s eye was hit or miss. And, the bathroom was disgusting. Disgusting. That just kills me. I give fast food places the 3star, and the food was a five, but this was a four.

Love the small plate options to share with friends. Chicken and biscuits are a must! It is very easy to get too much too fast and recommend ordering in waves. Outdoor seating below the sidewalk is nice an quiet and don't have have people walking by your table. Waitstaff was attentive and offered good suggestions.

We were walkins but we’re seated very fast. Nice atmosphere and good service. The food is good , tried the lobster and corn hush puppies, the fried chicken, the beignets and the buttermilk honey biscuits. Definitely that was the best.
Be the first to ReplyTwo Great Meals
We had incredible experiences at this restaurant two days in a row (we went twice because it was that good!) I'm a chef from the SF Bay Area, and I'd return to Boston for this restaurant. For food, we ordered the chicken sliders, ribs & spoon bread, crawfish hand pies, regular sliders, pulled pork croquettes, sticky toffee pudding and the biscuits. Everything was delicious, but the standout was the spoon bread + hot honey and chow chow that came with the ribs - it was EXCEPTIONAL. The ribs were a little bit dry, but it wasn't enough to stop us from enjoying every bite and we'll be craving that dish for a long time. This restaurant really understands flavors, executes their dishes perfectly and I have no doubt everything on their menu is delicious. For drinks, we loved the frozen voodoo (super refreshing on a hot day and paired really well with some of the heavier dishes) and the bartender the first day (Samantha I believe) made us an amazing old fashioned to pair with our dessert, with bourbon, cold brew and black walnut bitters. The male bartender the second day we came was more inconsistent in making the same old fashioned, but it still didn't overshadow the experience. Natalia was our waitress the second day, and she was amazing. Gave great service, was super friendly and communicative, and gave great recommendations and help in deciding to purchase the cookbook! These meals were some of our favorite on our trip and we'd be regulars if we lived in the area!
Be the first to ReplyGood southern fare in the Back Bay. Busy.
Great food. Good service. Busy. Tuesday night. 6pm. I’d booked (on open table) a regular table inside. I advised them my son was in a wheelchair. When we arrived, it was evident there was no way a wheelchair was getting to the regular inside tables. The front desk guy was clearly busy and stressed. He was on the phone and didn’t want eye-contact! I’d explained about the wheelchair thing and he just said “yeah, your’e outside” and took another phone call. I was then ushered upstairs to the outdoor patio on the corner of Dartmouth and Commonwealth. It was not a good first impression. However, everything from that point on was great. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and helpful. Food (fried chicken thighs, smoked trout toast, mac n cheese, devilled crab lettuce wraps, raspberry biscuit pudding) was superb. The food comes in a large tapas style. Good portioned “small plates” great for trying a range of dishes. Cocktails were delicious and overall value was good. We’re looking forward to coming back. There were many menu items we still wanted but didn’t have the room.

Can't find the Buttermilk & Bourbon in Watertown, MA listed on TA. So here goes.....don't order anything til you ask if it's deep-fried. Our cauliflower and chicken wings were both deep-fried in batter. Not good. Especially the wings, we asked for plain dry-rubbed. Not our cup-of-tea.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible
The first time we dined at B&B, everything was delicious, unfortunately, this most recent meal was really, really, really bad. The burger sliders were gristly, tough, chewy, and lacked any sort of flavor, and to make matters worse, the buns were completely soggy (come on!!). The chicken sliders were equally chewy, tough, and burnt - inedible. The burrata did not pair well with any of the items it was served with, but it was edible (unlike the aforementioned items). Our waitress was pleasant, but was not even remotely bothered by the fact that more than half of our meal remained untouched. Maybe they were just having an off night, but the food was so terrible, we won’t be back for a third time.

We got there at around 8:30 and were lucky to have found a free table indoors. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. We chose three "tapas": the ribs, the beef sliders and the chicken wings. All were delicious!!! Highly recommended restaurant!

If you like tapas, good vibes and a hint of New Orleans, Buttermilk and Bourbon will make your day or evening. The menu items are made to share, for groups from couples to families. The chicken sliders reminded us more of Nashville style cooking, but were great. The shrimp and grits was all right but would be better and more authentic without the barbecue sauce. The glazed biscuits are like sweet rolls and go great with the special butter or cheese spread. The only thing that bothered us was the sweet glaze on the lobster/corn hush puppies; get them to leave it off or serve the glaze on the side. We ordered six items among 3 people and had plenty The tab was a bit over $100 — about average for the city. The service was great, and we definitely will go back to try other items on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyNew Orleans tapas
This is similar to a tapas bar, but New Orleans style. You order a number of dishes and a small portion is brought out for everyone to share. Everything we tried was great. Be sure to order at least one order of the biscuits. The server was friendly and efficient. The food started coming out rather quickly. The server showed up often to ask if we wanted to add something new to our order- which we did several times. Be sure to look around as the restaurant area and bar area are uniquely decorated.
