I was pretty disappointed with this stroll down memory lane.
I'd come here a fair bit decades ago when I was working a lot in London. In a city of plentiful, very good, local Indian holes in the wall, I always viewed this as a big step up. Fancy Indian food. Today, I'd say it's just pricey Indian food. Nothing was particularly good, -- I don't know my wife loved the naan bread. Chicken makhani was the best. Spinach was good and interesting. Seekh kebab, meh. Spicy artichoke hearts were greasy and mostly breadly. Papadum chips? Why not real papadum? They felt almost like packaged chips. Silly small portion of rice. No samosas on the menu? Decor is dated. Service was decent. Hard pass on a future visit.
Be the first to ReplyMy boyfriend and I love Indian food.
We eat it at least once a week and have even taken Indian cooking classes, so we really enjoy it. Living in Miami, we were talking for weeks about how excited we were to come to London and eat great Indian food. This was honestly a very disappointing experience. While I don't love writing negative reviews, I also don't want others like us who travel overseas looking for great food to end up here eating overpriced, underwhelming food. Drinks: I ordered the mango chili margarita. It was lacking in flavor and which is surprising because I typically love mango cocktails. Appetizers: we actually loved the chicken trio appetizer. It made us so excited for our meal because the meat was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. We also ordered the dosa and spinach. The sauces that came with the apps were great. The appetizers were the only part of the meal we liked, unfortunately. Main courses: my boyfriend ordered the murgh makhani, I had the shrimp, and we ordered lemon rice and garlic naan. His makhani had a burnt taste but was otherwise not very flavorful. The chicken had a weird, rubbery texture. I ordered the shrimp because it had a * next to it meaning it's supposed to be spicy and I LOVE spicy food; however, black pepper is spicier than this shrimp. It was covered in green sauce yet somehow had virtually no flavor. The garlic naan didn't taste garlicky at all. The only thing I enjoyed eating was the lemon rice. Ambiance: I liked the waiting area when you first walk in, but in the main dining area, the lights are bright and it doesn't feel intimate or like a typical evening meal at a fine dining restaurant. Service: the service was okay, but it was a bit confusing that multiple people came to take our order so we kept having to re order or say that we already ordered. Overall, skip this place and try a different restaurant if what you're looking for is great Indian food with lots of flavor. If you're looking to pay 200 pounds for a disappointing meal, this is the place.

Both the inside and outside of the restaurant are beautiful. We ate outside and it was absolutely perfect.Service is excellent. Everyone is helpful and friendly and food came out quickly.Food was very good for the most part. I highly recommend the potatoes, chana masala, and the biryani. We ordered so much more but I didn't try everything due to my picky eating habits.Overall I'd give Bombay Brasserie a 4.5/5...we'll definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite Indian restaurant in London.
Came here after nearly 3 years (from overseas) and Taj group has kept up with its reputation in all respects, ambience, hospitality, service and taste. My guests were impressed, cannot wait to come back !
Be the first to ReplyOur meal was very dissapointing.
The chicken dish used parts of a chicken unfamiliar to us, perhaps it was chicken thigh cut in an unfamiliar way, it was not breast. Shrimp dish was okay. Separate charge for both rice and naan. For one beer, one small glass of white wine, two main dishes, water, naan and rice we paid £96.That is alot of money for such a mediocre meal.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely nothing negative to say about this joint.
It came highly recommended from our neighbor who happens to be a Brit & I can see why. We chose from the set menus, one vegetarian & one non-vegetarian & loved every bite. Considering I love whiskey drinks I also ordered the Spiced Manhattan & the Smoked Old Fashioned which were quite delicious.

We sat in the large dining room with our entire dinner being accompanied by a great piano player and the staff being so friendly and attentive. The Aperitif cocktails are have an Indian twist to them and we're absolutely delicious! We didn't get any appetizers because we had a bigger lunch that day but I would have loved to try them. The menu had a great selection of dishes that took the recipes you know from your Indian place around the corner and created more elegant, elevated versions of it. I normally always take chicken but actually ended up ordering a vegetarian meal that was incredible! And the dessert was definitely the highlight. I ordered the Cobra Coffee with my dad and ended up getting a whole show with it. It's made with coffee, white sugar, brown sugar, whiskey, snaps and an orange peel. Our waiter prepared it in front of us to show how he flambéd the sugar and whiskey mix and then let the burning snaps run down the orange peel! The end result is better than any Irish coffee, liquid cocaine or espresso martini you've ever had. For gluten free: their menu listed all allergens that were included and the waiters made sure to accommodate to my allergy. Very happy with the service!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the most memorable experiences of my trip to London
One of the most memorable experiences of my trip to London was the food. And this was unique in so many delicious ways. When you first walk in the amazing aroma begins to seduce your senses, your mouth begins to water as you see some of the beautiful food that comes out being delivered to all the happy patrons. The atmosphere is great for conversations and everyone is friendly. Granted there had been some deliciously dangerous red wine involved :)Perhaps the biggest thing that stood out was there was a certain pride that was taken in the food - you could taste the difference between taking your time and pouring yourself into what you are doing versus just cooking something. I highly recommend visiting here for a meal or two!

Enjoyed all the items we ordered. The crab and chicken starters where very tasty. Ordered the spicy venison for main course. My mouth still waters thinking about the dish

I visited this place multiple times when I was vacationing in London. It is on the expensive side, even when compared to London restaurants. But this means that you get to eat your food in a quiet and a peaceful place, far away from the hustle and bustle of London. The food quality is pretty good, and I am comparing it with Indian restaurants in America. The service is outstanding!

Terrible service, unrefined, lacking any level of sophistication. The food was ok not good. Outrageously expensive for Indian. Feels like a tourist trap.

This is one of the most venerable Indian restaurants in the area; we were told that it has been in existence over 30 years, so they're doing something right. The décor is a bit upscale and elegant and the staff complement this with their formal attire. There is even a piano player which adds to the upscale ambiance. The menu is extensive and most will find something to please them. Execution is good and the service is very politely formal. This is an excellent place for a date night or a business dinner. We were directed by our server as to menu items and the suggestions did not disappoint. Oddly I didn't think that scallops worked with menu items since they should be without much adornment or spices. Nevertheless, an enjoyable evening and we would return.

Fantastic dining experience!I wasn't 100% sure what I was eating but damn it tasted good! We went for the brunch buffet at the recommendation of our HomeAway landlord. He wasn't kidding, this place is hardcore delicious. I would tell you what we ate but honestly, I am not sure. It was just really really good. The restaurant itself is beautiful and tastefully appointed. The staff is really friendly and was able to guide me as to what would be good for my kids to eat.
