Good quality sushi, I sat at the sushi bar so I was able to watch them prepare each dish. The attention to detail was amazing, watching their precision slicing & molding was quite interesting. I love sushi but I'm a bit skeptical about sashimi. This time I gave it a chance & I cannot believe how good it was. I can't remember every fish on my dish but it was so good. Even the one with the fish scales still on it, you couldn't even taste it was still there & I'm big on textures. The service was great, I was able to converse with the chefs at the sushi bar. The location is pretty big, can definitely have a big dinner party. Very dim lighting, kinda gives a lounge vibe.
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot for a date or in the mood for some sushi.
The decor is really nice and cozy inside. The food was delicious, I highly recommend the oxtail fried rice and bone marrow omelet. What I did not like was we were rushed for whatever reason. I couldn't hear what the waiter said, but I did not like it and it was less than an hour and half we sat down hence the 4 stars.

Funny Story: I was actually meeting my cousins here for dinner but went to the wrong location, so I sped walked to this location. This sushi restaurant is fancy and dark as it located on the second floor. After reading the menu, it felt more like a sushi restaurant instead of an izakaya. The food at this restaurant is pretty pricey and the menu felt very limited for some reason. It felt like forever to decide what to get here: Shrimp Tempura (5/5): The tempura dish comes in bites and wasabi mayo. This was surprisingly my favorite dish of the night. The batter was light and the shrimp exploded in my mouth. Sushi-Sashimi combination (4/5): This was present well, but it tasted like nothing special. Sakana San Shu Roll (4/5): this roll comes with tuna, salmon, yellowtail and scallion. Definitely the best value roll if you want a variety of fish. The fish was mushed together so the flavor was weird, but the scallions added a nice hint. Lychee-Toni on the rocks (4/5): Very strong and the lychee puree was pretty pretty flavorful. Overall probably wouldn't come back here again as there's better sushi in the city and at a more affordable price
Be the first to ReplyI came to Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya after my brother
I came to Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya after my brother strongly recommended it. The restaurant itself is located on the second floor of a building and the decor was really cool. The slender hallway of stairs you walk up leads you to the dining space, which is dimly lit with dark walls. The staff was warm and immediately guided us to our table. We ordered a variety of items to try from their menu. My favorites from the visit were surprisingly the Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken (dipped into their House Chili sauce) and their Ebi Tempura Roll. Both had such a satisfying crispiness that did not dry out their interior. I think my favorite tempura that I have ever had will probably be what I have tried at Blue Ribbon. I wasn't the biggest fan of their Spicy Tuna with Crispy Rice appetizer or the side of fries that came along with another entree. The ratio of spicy tuna to crispy rice seems too much and there was a gumminess to the rice that was a bit off-putting. In terms of the fries, they were thin, which made them crunchy but lacked substance and flavor. Everything else was neither outstanding nor disappointing. The staff were super attentive throughout our meal. I think unfortunately considering the price of the menu, I don't think I would consider coming back since there are other options in this neighborhood. As someone had said, I think there is a low return for the price. Additionally, I did really wish there were more non-alcoholic or mocktail options to choose from besides tea and soda.

-pleasantly surprised by this place, was expecting it to be less authentic. -apps were great (esp the seared toro and the octopus sunomono) - In terms of sushi / sashimi: LOVED the seared salmon belly and toro -dessert (chocolate Bruno was really good)
Be the first to ReplyTook the family here and it was a gem with great ambience.
We were all craving sushi and were all happy with everything that showed up to the table. Very accommodating, friendly staff.

4.5 stars Pros -Amazing ambience and we loved the booth. Great for a girls night out, romantic dinners. Not the best for family gatherings. - We loved the spicy tuna crispy rice. Fried chicken was also good. -Great sake selections. - Sashimi was OK. Service was phenomenal.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was too salty and the sushi platter was average.

Such high quality fish! The vibes are good and the servers were a riot. I went on a Friday evening and it wasn't busy. Great way to end your week.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a newbie when it comes to sushi and I get nervous trying new sushi dishes. Lucky for me, I met Max the bartender one evening when I finally decided to step out of my comfort zone. He was incredible with explaining each roll and helping me decide what to try and was not judgmental at my in-experience at all. I opted for the chef's choice Honoo platter which includes 3 spicy rolls and 3 Gunkan. I had never had Gunkan before. It was very similar to a regular sushi roll but is shaped and prepared differently with the meat on top of the roll and rice at the bottom.I was able to discover that I liked scallop! So that was a fun experience. Still my favorite roll had to be the blue crab. Extremely fresh and well flavored. Each roll was different and had a unique taste. I was very happy with my tasting, especially for $38! A great deal!I loved the space itself, they have a nice bar section and a separate dining space that also includes the sushi counter. It looked like they are able to house a larger party too, so bring your friends! I was informed that they also have an outdoor patio in the summer, which sounds awesome.A great spot in the neighborhood that I can't wait to take my girlfriends to so I can prove that I do eat good sushi!5/5

Came here on a date and am actually surprised on all the reviews calling this place overpriced. I had an amazing meal and only paid $200 for 2 of us. The sushi was perfect, very much on par with Sushi on Jones and Sushi Yasuda. The reviews all called out how it was overpriced but I guess if you eat crap mall sushi, it seems expensive. If you want high quality and affordable this place is very much perfect. I mean I'm just a chef who worked at a high end sushi place, so I guess take my review for what it is.

I picked this place because the Mister loves sushi - and if you visit, that's what you should get. When you arrive, there is a LONG flight of steps up to the restaurant. If you have mobility issues you may want to reconsider. The dining space is gorgeous - sleek, with fun murals on the walls. They have long tables for large groups do it's a good place to bring all your friends. We started with edamame which was fine in the way that edamame us. The mister went with a sushi sampler ($40) which he said was excellent. I decided on a few small plates (more on that later) - yaki chicken ($9) and yaki beef with wasabi ($14). What arrived was a skewer of 3 1"x1" chicken chunks and one Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage sized piece of beef with a lump of wasabi. Literally 5 bites of food for $23. Yes, it's nyc but ya'll crazy.Service was fine - I felt a little rushed. I wouldn't come back just based on the low value factor.
Be the first to ReplyTLDR: Another location of the Blue Ribbon group.
If you're looking for something a bit more chic for sushi, it's fine I suppose. I think in this area though, there are far better places with more value to be had. If I was taking people out on a corporate card who wanted sushi and had to be in the LES - this would be a suitable choice.Everything was really just okay. It tasted fine but nothing to really write home about. The miso soup where you drop your own ball of miso paste was kind of neat. Rock shrimp tempura was a bit more on the puffy side for my liking, the spicy mayo was standard. Sushi platter was fine but again, nothing stood out.I figured because it was Blue Ribbon, I should finally try this chicken. Meh. Not particularly crispy, not super juicy. To be candid, it sort of reminded me of a knock-off version of Pecking House. Not in a good way.If you want some bougie sushi in the LES, it's fine but there's probably a ton of other places within a half mile I'd rather spend my money.

Really cool ambience and AMAZING miso soup definitely the best I've ever had!! Butttt the sushi itself was just pretty average I mean it was good but I've had better for half the price. I'd go back for drinks and apps but that's pretty much it. FYI dirty martinis there are a chefs kiss!
Be the first to ReplyGood for late night snacks.
Great relaxing and modern vibe. Sushi was fresh. Deluxe set is more than enough for two. Chicken wings came with 4 pieces, very large portion, and deep fried to the perfection - meat was juicy with nice crispy top that's very devil for late night. Shishito peppers were very nicely grilled. Highly recommended to stop by after a concerts or musical performance in the neighborhood.
Be the first to ReplyIf you get anything, please get the oxtail fried rice.
The Fried chicken was amazing also but in our opinion, the wings are the same amount as the entree.
Be the first to ReplySolid spot for slightly pricy sushi.
The place is quite spacious and a relatively quiet atmosphere so it would be good for a semi-intimate small group dinner. For the three of us, we got 3 rolls and the sashimi deluxe, followed by the oxtail rice and chicken wings. The sake ikura (salmon&roe) roll was definitely the hit and the spicy crab roll was actually spicy and good (but nothing outstanding). Not sure if it's standard but all three rolls only had 6 pieces. Oxtail rice was phenomenal, and although quite pricy, it's definitely more than one serving's worth. Chicken wings were crunchy and tender but nothing extraordinary.
Be the first to ReplyI feel like my visit to Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya is many
I feel like my visit to Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya is many years too late, as I remember it being one of the buzziest restaurants to see and be seen in the city nearly a decade ago. I wondered if the ship for this restaurant retaining any of its cool factor and quality of food had long sailed, but after my meal here recently I'm seeing why it has remained a mainstay in such a competitive dining landscape over the last ten years. The food is fresh and flavorful, and because it's not the trendiest place anymore, you don't have to fight for a table and the atmosphere is pretty low key.The menu will appease both casual sushi eaters and those seeking a more specialized izakaya meal as well, with sections of the menu dedicated to fish from the Pacific vs Atlantic oceans. I don't know that my palate can discern the difference, but I appreciate granularity at this level. I enjoyed everything we had, including the sushi and sashimi combination, Oyako don, and tofu & seaweed salad. Their sake list was compact but covered enough flavor profiles for us to sample both hot and cold sakes, and dry and sweet ones too.The interior is a step above casual, with long sleek black tables, neutral toned and comfy seating, and tasteful lights and floral arrangements throughout the space. It was pretty quiet inside and very easy to have a conversation without needing to shout over music or ambient noise, which I appreciated.I find myself trying to pin down the most sought after reservations that I can forget the really wonderful sleeper hits that have been around for so long for good reason.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome restaurant.
The apps and sushi are top notch. Everything tasted super fresh and well executed. The service was also well done.
