Blue Duck Tavern Washington Reviews from The Last Year

Excellent!!!!! Incredible wine /cocktail selection and the duck is beyond amazing ! Wow
What an amazing dinner.
Dick and chicken weee good but the mushroom pasta and desert were amazing. Beautiful location and great wine selection. Expensive but worth a try!
I had a great dinner here.
I liked the cocktails. The BDT fries were great. They were cut thick, and were crispy on the outside and soft inside. The duck was delicious and cooked well. The sauce that came with it went well with the duck. I also liked the ambiance of the restaurant. It had a modern, minimalistic vibe.
Great food and service.
Location is beautiful and close to hotels and other landmarks. Menu is great, but not too many options for non-meat eaters
Disappointed.
Food not tasty at all. Poorly seasoned and flavored. Portion is too small. Price was too high and overvalued. Totally not worth it. Bad service, very hard to get the attention of our server. Server isn't very nice and patient. When we want to pay the bill, we asked if we can use Apple Pay, but his only response was "Apple pay was not working". Then he stood there staring at us with no apologies or other payment alternatives provided. Then there was awkward silence until we grab our card. Then when he brought back the check, he didn't thanked us or showed any courtesy. We went to grab Chick-fil-A right after we leave this restaurant, and it was so much better!!
Terrible! Extremely slow service.
No one at the host to greet us upon entering at prime time lunch time, then put in the side area behind a pole we already felt tucked away and forgotten about. Ordered lunch that was a burger and salad and took 45 minutes to finally arrive. No apology. We said we needed to-go boxes and had to leave. They did comp the bill without asking, but told us to come back another time we had a little more time to sit. Unfortunately, we will not be back. There are too many great places around here.
The food was OK, but not incredible.
Service was good and the ambiance was nice. I wish they had more options and waiters knowledgeable in wine pairing with the meals.
Good and not so good
Our party of four ordered the bone marrow, tenderloin, duck, red drum, crab cakes, grits, fries and apple pie. The fries were rather mushy instead of being crispy but everything else was delicious. Unfortunately the service was sub par. We had to flag down our server to order (gentleman with blond hair and ponytail), he disappeared and let our empty dinner dishes sit for 20 minutes and he forgot the caramel sauce for our pies. This was not our first visit. At this price point the service should be impeccable. Maybe this is one of the reasons BDT recently lost its Michelin Star status?
Hard to Maintain Quality
We have come here for many years (more than ten) whenever we come to town for some reason. It is our special place. This visit, the bartenders were less friendly than usual. The crab cake and BDT fries remained delicious; the desserts were honestly terrible. In particular, the pear Mille-feuille I can make better than they did. Overall, the quality and “specialness” seems to be going down hill. Didn’t really seem worth the price this go around.

Beautiful, light-filled space with excellent service and locally-sourced food. The brunch menu had a little of everything you could hope for. Fairly pricey but delicious.

I have been here several times over the years, mostly for dinner and brunch. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The service is top notch. Staff are great. The food is always so delicious. Most recently, we tried their special, Roast Duck, and it was divine. This place is great for special occasions, work-related gatherings, and simple lunches and dinners with family or friends, I recommend this restaurant to friends, family, and co workers.
Fantastic service, gorgeous location, and absolutely
Fantastic service, gorgeous location, and absolutely stunning modern design. This place is located in Park Hyatt, which is a 5-star luxury hotel in Washington, DC. I stayed a night here and tried their Blue Duck Tavern restaurant twice! This place is a Michelin-distinguished dining in the heart of Georgetown, Washington, DC. I came here for their breakfast and brunch on a Sunday morning. Their prices range between 20s-30s with relatively smaller but filling portion sizes. I had their duck confit in the morning with a green tea latte and an avocado toast at noon. The duck confit ($29) -- underwhelming. It came with a perfectly poached egg but the potato and duck were not spectacular for a Michelin restaurant. It had a succulent flavor with some oil and juices coating the bottom but the overall flavor was lacking. There's a biscuit on the side to add to an even more heartier feel to this dish. The avocado toast ($23) -- simple but pretty presentation. Arugula, poached egg, and avocado -- always a fantastic combination that is hard to mess up! I would definitely order this again.
My first review of 2024.
I came on a Thursday night at 7:30p. This beautiful restaurant is located inside the Park Hyatt Hotel. Our server's recommendation was to start with the bone marrow. It was severed with roasted garlic to smother over the bread. Delicious! Known for their duck obviously, we went with the whole duck. It was delicious. Tender and flavorful. I was surprised that the duck with severed with grits, pickled vegetables, and a fruit glaze in the middle. I also liked how they cut the duck up into pieces. It was more than enough for two people. I had a whole half to take home. For the sides we ordered mashed potatoes and broccolini. Everything was delicious! I'll be back.
Mid week dinner
Beautiful setting in the main dining area with a view of the kitchen and food preparation. The duck breast and duck confit were both cooked to perfection. Likewise the Kobe beef. The smoked beets were a great accompaniment, as was the olive bread with butter. The apple pie is a must for dessert, as recommended by our server, Tibor. Service was professional and informative.

Stayed at the Fairmont across the road and decided to try out this place. Duck was absolutely amazing. Service was excellent.

I've eaten here on multiple occasions and was very underwhelmed why it had a Michelin star. That chef left in 2000 and went their star. I stayed at the hotel this evening and was quite hesitant eating here again, but this time around I must say, I had a really good dining experience. We sat in the dining room with a good view of the open kitchen. It wasn't loud or too quiet and can have an easy conversation. Came with complimentary bread service. Our waiter was friendly enough and was very pleasant. They don't have a kids menu but they will create a dish for them. My girl had pasta with tomato sauce. The sauce wasn't too much so she poured in the grated cheese. It was good. The bone marrow slathered in roasted garlic with the toasted bread and spreads it with the marrow, wow, that was fantastic. The crab cakes and duck breast with confit was spot on! The crab cakes with that tarter type sauce and frisée salad were so good. But the star had to been the duck breast. It was so moist and really good flavor. Duck confit was nice and crispy. Was too full for dessert and left the place feeling happy. It's not cheap place paying $310 for one starter, three entrees (one was kids entree), two sides (potato purée was to die for!!), and three cocktails with tax and tip.

We first came for a snack and drinks, then dinner, and finally breakfast the next morning. Each time service was superb and we left satisfied. The fries were hot and crispy. For dinner absolutely the best potato purée! The bone marrow is a must have with the baked garlic! For breakfast the biscuit with my duck hash was the star. The hash was missing some crispy skin and a bit greasy. Surprisingly, the rosemary potatoes (aka crispy potatoes) was very good! The blueberry muffin from the pantry basket is the best I have ever had! The restaurant vibe was modern and the windows floor to ceiling were nice. I would definitely come back.
Went to the Xmas dinner special.
Host was rude when we walked in & there was no coat check...I literally had to throw my winter coat on a random chair next to the table. Ambiance is horrible. It is in a hotel, but a Park Hyatt. The restaurant had bright white lights that were very harsh. We were seated directly next to another 2 top, very close. There were at least 10 open tables so patrons could've been spread out. The water pitcher was on the ledge directly behind me so any time a glass was refilled, they reached behind to grab it. The food was just ok. We each ordered the prime rib & it was very tough. We had to ask for steak knives. The waiter said you usually don't need steak knives for prime rib...well, we do or wouldn't be asking. Told us they were out of one of the desserts we ordered then magically found one. They were almost congealed & very little flavor. I expected much more from this very well known DC establishment. Not worth the money.
Creative, delicious food served family style
This is a highly rated restaurant that did not disappoint. We had a fine meal in the private dining room adjacent to the kitchen and next to the wine cellar. The meal consisted of several courses, which were collections of about 4 dishes followed by a final dessert course. The food was rich and tasty although a bit heavy. The service was excellent. We tried several different great wines from the list which mainly features American wines including some from Viriginia although there are also some gems from Burgundy, the Rhone Valley, and Bordeaux.
Disappointed
We had a reservation. We asked for a quiet position and the host put us in the glassed room by the bar. It was a Fri evening. The downside to this was the noise from the bar- dumping ice, making drinks, and bar noise echoed and reverberated into the room of 4 glass walls. All of the bar activity sounded like things were being slammed around just because of the acoustics of the space. We would have been better off on the patio with the crowd and street. We were a party of 2. Had we been 4, perhaps we wouldn't have noticed the bar noise as much. Entrees were good yet not memorable. Cheese plate was paltry and given the portion/price--was outrageously overpriced. Disappointing.
A Casual Chic Tavern.
The Blue Tavern is located in the Park Hyatt, Washington DC where one can experience Michelin distinguished dining. I was impressed with the shenanigans of the open kitchen crew cooking up a seasonal, market fresh, ingredient-driven menu of Americana cuisine using the inventive technology of the famous Molteni range & wood burning oven. A creative interior design was embellished by a sprawling space with soaring windows, bulked up with handsome sleek furniture that promoted the aura of a nobleman's farm house and customer sought-after glass-enclosed booths. As I flew over the food catalog I opted for a food fix of Roasted Fish......superb and my Bone Marrow was a real flavor powerhouse. This casual-chic tavern checks all the boxes of an exemplary eatery namely: good food, contemporary environment and good service.
Gone far downhill
I’ve eaten at Blue Duck easily 15 times over the past decade. It used to be phenomenal, delicious flavors and combinations with outstanding service. Now it’s a corporate setting with excessively high prices and the food at multiple meals here (came for breakfast and lunch) was disappointingly bad. I got a $19 arugula salad for lunch that was literally a bowl of arugula with three slivers of plum, a small amount of shaved Parmesan, and dressing. A small chicken breast for the salad was $16. We live in NYC and I can’t remember the last time I paid $35 for a salad at lunch that had next to nothing in it. Had to ask for water refills multiple times. Truly awful. The porridge at breakfast used to be hearty, rich, and textured. We’ve had it this way for years and loved it. This time it was watery with overcooked grains and no consistency. We mentioned this to the server and he said nothing in return. You’ll see so many staff running around. Not sure what anyone is actually doing. The servers don’t check on the tables or do a two bite check. Expected to ask for everything. Not surprised this place hasn’t won an award in years. Sad to say we won’t return.
Nice Experience
This is a nice place and a kind staff. Our food was tasteful with a good presentation. Actually, we wanted a simple sunny side up eggs with toast, but it was not available. The overall was god experience, but it is an overpriced restaurant.
Worth the Price
We came here for dinner on a hot July night and then spent almost two hours dining. The ambiance was exceptional. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. Our entrees were beyond compare. My son had the duck and I had the roasted half chicken. Obviously, this isn’t a place we would go to on a weekly basis, but for a special occasion it’s a great choice.
Excellent
We absolutely loved the Blue Duck Tavern. The food and service were excellent. We had the tuna crudo, and bone marrow for appetizers and the halibut and duck confit for entrees. Wow, everything was delicious. I highly recommend. We also had breakfast the next morning. The avocado toast and omelet were excellent.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
