Love that it is dog-friendly.Attentive staff.A solid 4.5 stars, but not quite a 5 star, as they miss the mark on a few key dishes. We started with the 'Beets With Deli Flavors' ($21). Served cold/room temp. Quality selection of cooked beets, topped with smoked trout roe, Creme Fraiche, and horseradish. I loved this dish - especially the surprise that beets and roe are delicious paired! Others at the table found it lacking that something special. Our second 'cold dish' was 'Laura's Kiwis' ($18). Topped with Sumac, strawberry & salted peppercorn. Again, I enjoyed the surprise of the unusual flavor combinations but others at my table were not wowed. From the 'hot' menu, the standout was the 'Smothered Conehead Cabbage' ($21). Topped with pickled caraway & crispy sauerkraut, it was both unusual and tasty. Our server touted that the cabbage was cooked over a wood fire, and to be honest, it could use a lot more of the wood fire effect to turn it from good to excellent. The 'Southern Noodle Kugel' ($23) was disappointing. If you want a modern mac and cheese, try this. If you love kugel, don't. Not that it is a bad dish - if they remove kugel from the name, it would be a good dish. The 'Pickle Chick' ($34) here is legendary, so you know we had to try it. That they only make 14 daily adds to the draw. If you are gluten-free, it is unusual to get a gluten-free breading on fried chicken, so there's that plus. It is breaded with potato, fried, and served with dill pickle hot sauce, fresh dill, and dill pollen. We enjoyed it and would get again. For a fried chicken, surprisingly light and not oily dish. Good dish to share among 3 people. Then my favorite part of any meal - dessert! The 'Malted Chocolate Layer Cake' ($13) was rather ordinary. A nice cake but not a strong malt flavor and nothing exceptional.Their signature dessert is the 'World-Famous Rose Petal Pie' ($14) which brought to mind the jello-cakes of the 1970's - now I remember why these went out of style. The others at my table raved about this one, but not for me.
