Best Bet Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
I remember driving by this place for years and wondering
I remember driving by this place for years and wondering when will another great restaurant occupy it's space. A few days before the official opening I kept seeing people in the parking lot and was like could it possibly be happening and sure enough Best Bet was born. I looked them up on here and visited them the week they opened with my partner in crime. We were seated outside Pizza was salty and even the manager confirmed it was and came to apologize. I personally didn't care for the pasta but my partner did and said she would order it again, maybe for me it was the texture of the pasta being too Al dente for my liking. Everything else we ordered was amazing which included the zucchini blossom, meatballs and blackberries dessert. Too bad I found out they closed just after 5-6 months of opening. I wish I had ate there more than once:(
Interesting menu and warm ambience, but not sure its good
Interesting menu and warm ambience, but not sure its good value. We ordered a number of items and the standout was the lamb ravioli which was a chefs special. Delicious and flavorful in every bite! Also loved the godzilla pizza we got as well as the dessert! But everything else like the garlic knot, salad, etc was run of the mill. Service was friendly and timely! Its too bad this place shut down.
This restaurant is closed and owners, Sprout portfolio
This restaurant is closed and owners, Sprout portfolio (Republic, Yardbird, Vespertine) did not have the courtesy to contact those with existing reservations (for four weeks in my case) to let them know. And I hope they are compensating their employees who left other great restaurants only to have this happen during the holidays.
4+ despite the name of 'Best Bet Pizzeria', I would say
4+ despite the name of 'Best Bet Pizzeria', I would say that this place feels more like a mid to high end restaurant with an Italian influence, but more like fresh ingredient driven California fare. When I went, I thought the service was attentive and great. Really helpful with exploring the menu as well. The place was lively and fun. The restaurant is located in the A-Frame in Culver City that has seen a few different restaurants over the years. (Been a relatively long time resident in West LA) I really enjoyed the smaller dishes like the crispy zucchini and the roasted stone fruit. Beautifully presented and done very well. For the pizzas, I tried the Italian Stallion and the Funkadelic (a Montanara style pizza). Now, I never had Montanara style pizza before. I'm a fan. It's like a savory donut with a nice crisp and soft middle. Overall, I'm a big fan of the food. It's not the cheapest, so just know that. Parking in the area can be tough but not impossible. There's a lot, but it's not large.
Staff and service was great, however.
..25 years in this neighborhood, live a block away. Skip it skip it. Pizza and pasta (2 adults and 2 kids) for $300 is outrageous, which seems to be the running theme here. Soggy undercooked crust, runny cheese and the Godzilla pie tastes like a boiled hot dog wrapped in half baked bread. Half dozen other "Italian" options with much better food for a fraction of the price within walking distance. Oh and you want a slab of butter thrown on a bowl of pasta for your 6 y/o...gfy says the pretentious chef. They'll be gone in 18 months. We miss Roy Choi
Yum! Fun ingredients and great flavors.
Me and my gals had a nice time coming here to catch up and enjoy the food and ambiance. Must order a lot because the portions are on the smaller side. Key takeaways: -loved the Burrata, which came with a tomato-jam thingy that was a great pairing -persimmon appetizer was AWESOME! I don't even know how to explain what ingredient were in it...it was super cool so you gotta try it for yourself. -cocktails - can skip these as we didn't love them for the $17-$18 price tag. At least they were strong! -pasta was delicious! Ordered the cacio e pepe and another pasta dish (can't recall the name). Very unique flavors that came together nicely. Only con is that the pasta portions are so tiny to share between 3 people. I feel like I only got 1 or 2 small bites of the pasta. -steak was good but nothing special, wish we got the chicken Milanese instead! - can't speak on the pizza because someone is our party couldn't eat pork, and their non-pork options didn't seem very interesting -wish they had more non-alcoholic and caffeine-free drink options! But not a big deal, we can all drink more water anyways! -they were kind enough to let us stay until 10:30 because we were having so much fun catching up that we lost track of time. I forget that this part of Culver City is pretty sleepy, but thanks for putting up with us! Very friendly service overall. - if I had to do it all over again, I'd order a bunch more appetizers, skip the mains, and maybe grab another pasta dish.
I would happily make the drive from Orange County to Best
I would happily make the drive from Orange County to Best Bet Pizzeria any time, any day. Let's go over a few reasons why. (Please be advised that this review is based on my visit on 9/16/23 so some of the items we ordered may no longer be on their ever-slaying seasonal menu.) Roasted garlic knots - you may feel deceived when this comes out because it's literally just one big knot, but nonetheless it was roasted garlicky goodness. Ricotta Zeppole Giostra - this was an appetizer on the sweeter side. Best way to describe it is like a wound up churro with shaved Parmesan cheese on top + avocado honey, truffle salt, and black truffle shavings. *drools* All the tomatoes salad - mini tomatoes and sliced regular tomatoes topped with tomato vinaigrette, black garlic, buffalo ricotta, basil oil, and basil leaves. Every bite of this sent my tastebuds in a craze. It's now #2 on my list of best ricotta salads. Pizzas- My name is groot (woodfired / neopolitan style) - it was ok! Nothing to hate about it, however also nothing to really rave about. Godzilla (woodfired / neopolitan style) - some of the crust was a little too burnt for our liking, but other than that we enjoyed it. Reverse spumoni (focaccia / Sicilian style) - interesting toppings {crispy mortadella, figs, pistachio, whipped buffalo ricotta, cherry amaro agrodolce} got me curious enough to order this. The decision was not regretted one bit. Dolce budino- this dessert literally made all of us awe in agreement of how this was the perfect ending to our dinner. It was the supreme ratio of sweet, salty, and crunchy. Drinks- (all cutely decorated with a big alcohol cube with "BB" engraved) Hot older sister - duh, it's me in drink form! Of course I had to order it. Best bet martini - yes yes a million times yes. Tbh everything was a little on the pricier side, but I guess that comes with the location territory. Service was A1. Everyone knew what they were talking about and gave us amazing recommendations on what to order for our first time there. The parking situation looks like a little lot at the back of the restaurant, a valet lot in front, and street parking surrounding.
Mixed feelings and mixed taste buds.
We came for our date night of the week, Friday, and we had a reservation. We parked for free on the street and walked up to the front door. We had to wait for 5 minutes and then they sat us on the patio which had an abundance of heat lamps. The menu had a lot of options and we knew we wanted at least one pizza and a few sides to try. As the dishes came out, they were just slightly underwhelming. For example, the brussels sprouts weren't thoroughly cooked, some harder chunks than others but the sauce/cheesy powder was nice. The squash blossoms, 3 massive loads of dough with very little crab filling and a disappearing sauce. Where did it go? It was underneath and only on the plate, not on the food and definitely could have a small container of it on the side for dipping. I had to scrape the inside of these "doughnuts" just to get to the goods. The pizza rack was then placed on the table and another waiter brought over a pair of scissors. Huh? He said as he walked away, "this is to cut the pizza, its tradition in Italy to not slice a pizza." I laughed. That's false sir, they don't give you scissors. And seriously, I don't want to have to cut my own pizza awkwardly at the table. I looked around at others cutting their pizzas with their shoulders in their ears. But the star of the show was the MY NAME IS GROOT pizza. Filled with all kinds of mushrooms and a duck egg. The dough was perfectly seasoned and had the best texture, very similar to a pizza I had in Napoli, Italy. Naturally, we ordered the most expensive pizza on the menu - $35!!! It's about 4 slices y'all. Insanely priced. 3 items, one sparkling water, no booze, no dessert came out to a total of $94. Ouch.
I was yesterday in the restaurant in the bar seat number
I was yesterday in the restaurant in the bar seat number seven and I got poison I have pasta and glass of wine. They usually give us pasta plate for appetite. They charge me $48 for the small pasta and glass of wine. I got poison and I'm going to take legal action against them, my name David down, I'm a filmmaker I do feature films and television. I died and many restaurant and that's restaurant is overrated and the worst in Culver City be aware working in the kitchen, not professional and the server frozen pasta. Be aware tell your friends.
Best Bet Pizzeria is good.
It's not a "blow me away it's amazing" place. It's also not a traditional Italian or pizza restaurant. Here is the rundown, also, and I went because I was craving a wood fired pizza. Crispy zucchini blossom. $23. I liked it. It was a small zucchini stuffed with crab meat and deep fried. Endive salad. $18. I liked it. Plenty to share among three persons. Eggplant Parmesan. $22. It's served in a cast iron skillet which is cooked in the pizza oven. Plenty of food to share, tasted clean, bright, I liked it! Abe Froman pizza. $27. I ordered it mostly because I love Ferris Bueller and thought the name was funny. The name is better than the taste. It is supposed to be a meatball pizza. But not much meatball on it. Maybe the meatball was shaved too thin. Ode to Franco. $25. It's a cheese pizza with tomato. I liked it much better than the meatball pizza but the name "Franco" is offensive for someone who knows Spanish history. I hope it's another Franco the owner was thinking of. But I'd like them to change the name. I liked most of cocktails which are strong and creative and I'd return for them. The Culver Ring cocktail $16 didn't taste as described. E.g. I expected lemon grass and pineapple, it was smoky. Bit I still liked it. The Frozaetto Sour $16 I liked the tangerine flavor, even though the total taste reminded me of some sort of cough syrup. For dessert I had an espresso martini $20, served with a small amount of vanilla gelato. Their espresso martini is not good. I think it's just espresso/coffee and vodka. I love espresso martinis. I don't mind if made non-traditionally, Eg. bourbon. Also the gelato was icy, not good. So pass on their espresso martini. Also, I was there for a birthday. The candle on a plate was lame. At least put it on a cookie. Best Bet also adds 4% to the bill and call it the "Healthy LA". I understand they are trying to find a way to subsidize their payroll, but since this is not added as "an option" I think is unappetizing since this is not an inexperience place.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
