My husband and I came to Asheville for a couple of days and on an urgent last day we decided to have brunch at Benne on Eagle. We were quickly seated and the staff were very friendly. Bo was our waiter and he did a great job. We both ordered the Market Street Breakfast which included Bacon, 2 Eggs, Toast (they had gluten free toast YAY!!!), and your choice of grits, fruit or potatoes. I chose potatoes and my husband chose grits. Breakfast was delicious!! The restaurant was nicely decorated with pictures of the women who started the restaurant back in the 60's and the historic tale is printed in the menus. The artwork was lovely AND when we were leaving we ran into the artist who painted the murals! We didn't know it at the time but the restaurant is attached to the Foundry hotel which is now owned by Hilton...but it is BEAUTIFUL (I've attached a few pictures)!!! At the moment, the restaurant is only open for breakfast/brunch and closes at 11:00 but we were told that the hours of operation will be extended in the spring. We will definitely be back!!!
Be the first to ReplyHad breakfast from Benne while a guest at the Foundry Hotel.
Ordered it as room service breakfast and it was great! It's hard to find a hotel with great room service breakfast but this restaurant pulled it off. You could definitely tell the food was made fresh. We had the BLT and chicken and waffles. My wife enjoyed her sandwich but the chicken and waffles really shined. Chicken was fried thighs which is the best to me. It was fresh and crispy. The waffles had solid flavor and the fruit bowl side was quality not some prefrozen mixture but instead tasted like it had been cut that morning.

Loved the shrimp and grits. Also had the waffle and a bottle of champagne. Great service! Good music. Good vibes.

I would recommend drinks and a dessert. In regards to the food, not so great. Overall it's quiet and the ambience is relaxed.

Popped in here on Halloween and we were so glad we did! Our servers were so friendly! They took really good care of us - we have had a late lunch so were just wanting drinks and a couple of small plates. The small plates did not disappoint - the grit cake was sublime...crunchy and warm on the outside and the grits were creamy but not runny on the inside. We had the kale and butternut squash salad which was dressed perfectly...the squash was delish and accompanied the dressing and kale nicely. We also got the sweet potato hummus and that rocked too! They had a nice wine and cocktail menu as well as a good selection of beer. We will definitely return for dinner and dessert next time!

This is a hidden downtown gem on Eagle Street behind the Fire Department. Had a salad, the "lollipops" (chicken legs) appetizer, and the short rib. The fusion of jerk spices with hoe cake and honey drizzles gives the food a spicy sweet flavor with roots in traditional southern soul food in a cozy and interesting ambiance. It may be a few steps off the beaten path of the typical touristy hubbub, and every step is worth taking to get the chance to taste their food and experience their friendly and fast service.

We came for dinner at Benne on Eagle to celebrate a special occasion. Food and service was amazing and I would definitely recommend it! It looks like they change their menu somewhat frequently, but when we went, I remember really liking the curry fish, lemon cake, and carrot cake in particular. I took a look at their latest menu and am drooling at all of the new dishes. Go check it out!

Delicious food, very well spiced, and excellent service from our server, Leah. Beautiful dining room, and nice to be able to see the pristine kitchen.
