My sister and a close friend were coming Downtown to meet my partner and I for lunch. Heard about Beatnik's so we decided to "try it out". Happy we did! First...unbeatable atmosphere/ambiance! Totally relaxed and comfortable decor, especially on the lower level, facing the river. From the hundreds of flowers hanging from the ceiling to mixed colorful table-settings, relaxing couches and tables...very Bohemian. Next Food...the incredibly diverse Mediterranean menu. Delicious combinations of appetizers and entrees. We shared appetizers and sampled each others entree. All delicious! And the Staff...friendly and attentive. The hostess cheerfully greeted us (and graciously thanked us as we left). Our knowledgable server answered our questions about many of the dishes including how they are prepared. She clearly explained any ingredient/spice or sauce unfamiliar to us and how it is used. Good atmosphere, good food and good service! We'll definitely return and encourage others to "try it out"!
Full disclaimer, I was late to my reservation with 9 people.
This was for my 30th birthday. My reservation was at 2 and we got there at 3. We tried to change the reservation online and thru the phone around 12 but no answer and the online portal would not allow us to. Once we arrived they sat us in a room in which their staff kept passing by with area rugs, mop buckets and an attitude and it really wasn't a vibe. I asked the manager if we could be seated outside or somewhere nicer and they said no. I understand I was late to my reservation but they continuously reminded us of it even though it's nearly impossible to change. They took forever to take our drink orders and one of the servers, mazarati kept reminding us that we were late to the reservation. He took our drink order and then switched servers without letting us know. The next server was much more polite but at that point we already had a bad experience. The drinks were mid at best. They were made poorly and you could tell we were not welcome there. I didn't stay for the food because I was overwhelmingly dissatisfied with the service and the drinks there. The prices were outrageous($25 for a mediocre drink). I was really looking forward to celebrating my 30th here. I would have rather them cancel my reservation than the attitude and nastiness I received from them.

i made reservations for 7pm on a wednesday and was seated pretty quickly, my only drawback was that we weren't seated downstairs where they had all the nice decorations and river view. it did take away from the atmosphere experience since the upstairs was not as decorated or unique. besides that, i did enjoy my time here, the service was very attentive, the drinks were good and the butcher steak was amazing. i did notice that they don't offer every entree that i saw online, it is a rotating menu depending the day or time of day. next time i would come for brunch to try some other menu items that weren't offered and hopefully to be seated downstairs.

Perfectly located and beautifully decorated restaurant.
We were seated right by the river and it was beautiful! Everything on the menu looked good, my Kale Fattoush was so fresh and light. I'd recommend adding salmon to it- crispy on the outside but still tender. If you're in a large group and seated along the river, you likely wont be able to push your tables together. They also don't do any birthday desserts, which was disappointing.

The food was well seasoned, quick service, and the ambiance was really nice. While we did not sit on the river, we were extremely lucky to have Virgil as our server. He was kind, made sure the food was correct (I have a food allergy), and consistently checked on us. We had the double cheeseburgers (one well done and one medium well) and a chicken dish (during dinner). We ate too quickly for photos but the biggest takeaway should be to get the double cheeseburger and ask for Virgil.

Went in around 4 pm on a tuesday and host was shocked we didn't have a reservation. which was weird bc the entire front patio and inside of restaurant was completely empty. they said they had standing room only outside. i said is the front patio not open? and they said oh yes it is and reluctantly gave us a table out there (again, we were the only ones even out there the whole restaurant was empty). once sat, someone brought us water and didn't say a word. might have just been a server assistant, but okay. waited 30+ mins and no waiter ever came, greeted us, or anything. they even sat someone else next to us about 10 mins in, and they weren't receiving service either. we ultimately just left bc we were so hungry and to not even get greeted after that long was crazy. we went to beatrix across the street instead. all in all, customer service was some of the worst i've ever seen. would never recommend.
Wonderful experience.
Stopped by in whim after seeing on TicTok. We didn't have reservations but we're able to grab a spot on the "rail". Perfect. Overlooking river in the most beautiful room from the post. Service was excellent. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Just got drinks and a dip. I had the sangria and my son had a recommended Portuguese wine. All was delicious.
Rudest hostess, good ambiance
The hostess Kira was the rudest restaurant employee I've ever interacted with. We were a large party, and she was consistently condescending, sarcastic, and snappily accused us several times of not confirming our reservation (and was again rude when we told her that we had confirmed it several hours earlier). We considered leaving and going to another restaurant because of her, but didn't because we had a reservation. The food was okay, our waitress was great, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was beautiful, but our interaction with the hostess ruined our night. I've seen other comments online complaining about the hostess at Beatnik, so it seems she is an ongoing problem. Would not recommend to others because of our insulting experience with the hostess - she will ruin your night.
Great lunch, beautiful restaurant
This was one of our fav spots during our whole trip to Chicago. We had reservations on a Wednesday at 11am. We were seated and waited on promptly. The food came out quickly just as ordered and it was delicious. The place is darling and being able to sit right on the river while dining was SO nice. A dish that was empty didn’t sit on our table for more than a minute before one of the bussers got it out of the way. They took great care of us and I would reccomend this spot to anyone who was taking a trip or dining in Chicago.

Food was excellent, amber our waitress was great. But the hostess was horrific. Never been spoken to like that- set the tone for the whole meal. It was one of the strangest experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. We should have left right then.

This spot is great for dates, casual meet ups, business gathering’s etc. The ambiance is beautiful, the food was great, the service was perfect and the hostess was perfection at its finest. Love this spot!!!
The worst experience I ever had! Attention u can easlity burn parts of ur body there
Last Friday I went to this dysfunctional establishment because of my friend wanted to talk to their waiter and had already regret many times that I just hadn’t waited for him in the car. In general, in the next 10 minutes, the following situation occurred at the counter: I was sitting charging my phone, not touching anyone/anything, and moving my hand a little, I suddenly smelled something burning - the sleeve of my fur coat flared up from a candle that was in an unsafe position from my hand. which I did not see at all, it was on the sidelines. Fortunately, I reacted on time and stopped the flame, so that it did not touch my body. The employees didn’t really react to this, although the first thing they supposted to do its throw water on my hand. Moreover, they didn’t even offer any compensation afterwards. I was shocked and sat in silence, then we left soon, although we had to immediately deal with the manager, but I wrote about this incident on Instagram that same evening and asked them in a polite tone to take some appropriate actions from their side and receive compensation in the amount of 100 dollars to buy myself new fur coat. Because now I can't wear it. Not only did they respond very slowly (one might say they ignored me), but after almost a week the manager replied that there would be no compensation and that I decided to set myself on fire. To write such a thing is low quality manner. I don’t understand how you can communicate like that with their guest. A very unprofessional team, I highly do not recommend going with that establishment, otherwise you may get burned by their candles, and they won’t care about you. Thank you for such a “pleasant” experience, beatnik team. PS: in all normal places have long ago replaced real candles with fake ones, in order to avoid such unsafe situations.

Such a fun spot for an occasion dinner! We came here during my friends bachelorette weekend and were seated at the most amazing table on the covered patio that was basically sitting on daybeds, it was awesome. The restaurant is gorgeous and so much bigger than I was expecting!! So fun to be right on the river. I tend to be skeptical of the quality of food for the river walk restaurants (typically they are overhyped) but I really enjoyed this one. We split the 4 spreads. My favorite was definitely the beet mutabbal - sooooo good and memorable! The carrot dip was good too, and I also really loved the octopus hummus. The pita bread itself is pretty basic. They recommend doing all shared plates but have some dishes that are more substantial for individual portions too, so we split the spreads and each got our own entree, which works great if you have dietary restrictions. I got the chicken musakhan and it was sooo good! The portion was substantial and the bread had a sweetness to it so it balanced nicely with the savory chicken and onions. The drinks were fine. The pineapple mezcal margarita was nothing special, especially for the price, but I really enjoyed the food. I'd definitely come back to sit on the patio again! Not my favorite Mediterranean in the city but overall a very positive experience.

Horrible customer service .
We set a reservation for Sunday brunch and arrived 30 min before time . We requested for the patio area downstairs but were quickly rushed to a tight table upstairs in the corner . The host who worked downstairs was completely rude and short tempered . We had no issue waiting or even coming back but she quickly dismissed us and said "there's nothing we can do" with a smirk and proceeding to seat guest with no reservations ahead of us . When we asked to speak to a manager she said I'm too busy and had her counterpart tell us the same " too bad, too busy" . We were so excited to try the restaurant and were only in town for a day: it's so disappointing when you have people like that representing your business . Delivery, and customer service go a long way and they lacked so much of this here ,

The ambiance was probably the coolest thing! There were a lot of plants and it gave me a boho type vibe. The music was nice. The view of the river was beautiful! The ambiance was the best part! The food was so different than what I'm used to and I liked that about it! They had Mediterranean she Spanish vibes. My husband loves the halloumi which had a sweet mango flavor from the amba. The crudo was really good and so fresh! As far as the service I thought it could be better. It started out nice but as the night went on, I got a vibe that we were kind of being rushed! So that's why this place had a 3 instead of 4.
Some of the best babaghanoush and Shashoua that you can get.
Great outside seating, right on the river decorated in Mediterranean flare. I highly recommend.

My Saturday night visit to Beatnik on the River was a delightful experience, thanks to its stunning riverside view. I highly recommend trying the octopus appetizer--it's a standout dish that shouldn't be missed. The service was attentive and pleasant, though I felt the menu could use a bit more variety to cater to diverse tastes. Nonetheless, it's possible that this is simply a matter of personal preference.

Great views of the river while being surrounded by greenery and flowers everywhere which looks great along the bright colored seating and flooring. Service is fast and the staff is friendly. We came for brunch which was good (get the falafel), though I like the dinner menu better. The cocktail I had was great. Overall a fantastic experience for brunch.

Falafels were not falafels, menu descriptions are deceiving. Service was subpar with a very European style of waiting. The place is all for ambiance and instagram photos. Not terrible but I would not visit again.

Outstanding spot amidst generic options for lunch. Great view of river, great and diverse mediterranean options and the service was superb. Need to return for Happy Hour/Dinner!
Disappointing Dining
Arrived dining alone at 2:00 on a Sunday. Only 4 parties in restaurant, all already dining. Lots of employees milling about. Hostess was very friendly, waitress was not. She wanted to take food order as well as my cocktail order, so I did. The strawberry daiquiri I ordered was sour and flavorless. The half berry perched on the glass with yellow shriveled leaves was the most tasteful thing about it. Shortly, my food arrived, and I asked the waitress if the daiquiri was supposed to be this sour? I just couldn’t drink it. She volunteered to switch it for a strawberry margarita. I said thanks and I was fine with that. The lamb shakshuka looked good, but I found an eggshell the size of a quarter was in it as well as the smaller pieces my teeth found. 15 minutes later, a busser removed my plate. Two minutes later, my waitress finally arrives with my drink ( there was no one in the restaurant) and I told her about the eggshells and that I just wanted my check. When she brought it, she said that she took care of the daiquiri. So, $50.00 later, 1 sip of margarita and the crunch of eggshells was how I left. I was dining alone, so I try to be very friendly, order and tip generously, but when I left, I just felt badly, and kind of taken advantage of.
classy and unique
this is a lovely spot for a meal, you can watch the boats on the river and the decor is unique. We were in a big hurry when we arrived, just looking for something lite before heading to the ballet and the staff was very accomodating, brought our food very quickly and took care of the check quickly also. I'd love to go back for a leisurely meal. You do pay a price for the atmosphere.
Cool vibe and great food
Loved the food and was adventurous trying new dishes. The steak kabob was amazing!! My only complaint was that the food came out too fast and we weren’t finished with one course before the next came out.

Excellent food, cocktails and staff
Delicious food, great atmosphere, friendly barman and staff, this restaurant had it all. We were disappointed we couldn't just drop in without a reservation for seating on the river BUT we had a great time eating at the bar. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back when in Chicago.

Great food but all 7 appetizers came at once- which I suppose would have been ok if we were really hungry and in a hurry but we would have preferred to have some pacing of the dishes. We ended up balancing plates on top of each other because all the dishes did not fit in the table. Then there was the matter of the really rude and unpleasant waitress. Plus there was absolutely no air conditioning in our section on this 100 degree day. (This may account for our unhappy waitress.) We paid with cash but they did not adjust the credit card 3.5% fee. And waitress was super rude when we paid cash too. So oh well- we walked to get ice cream and had a great night anyway. But we won't be back!
Poor service!
Came for a quick business lunch but was made to stand in the riverside seating area due to all tables being booked. However, at least 30 seats were free and serving staff didn’t use any initiative to try and seat me despite the fact I’m 35 weekend pregnant! Eventually offered a table for the last 5 minutes of my meal when it was clear I could, and should, have been seated the whole time. Such a shame that staff was so uncaring and unable to use any initiative so more customers could have enjoyed a seated meal!
Really Really Cold Atmosphere
This place looks really cool on the inside. It's a shame that everything else is so bad. For one, the restaurant does not seem to have a working heating system. It was 50 degrees outside today and the restaurant had no heating system turned on. Being situated so close to the river does not help matters whatever. I was literally shivering throughout dinner.Also, while I like the music the restaurant plays on their PA, they play it way too loudly. I kept having to ask my date repeat herself. Both of our dishes were severely overcooked. The rice that camev with my dates "chicken kebob" dish was so overcooked that it was crunchy. Despite my server's long winded speech about how their salmon is such high quality that the chef *strongly* encourages customers to get it medium rare, my salmon came out extra well done: white and flaky, exactly how I do not like my salmon. The noise level, the unwelcoming temperature, and the mediocre quality food makes me not want to try this place again. This restaurant is not worth the high prices they charge.

Quirky and fun. Service was a bit slow, but they were busy. Dress is pretty casual. Music was eclectic and a lot of stuff that I've never heard before. Right on the river so you can watch the boats go by... Food was tasty.

Fabulous food and service We had the Baba ganush the Ceasar salad and the croquettes everything was amazing and I would definitely come back again also the general manager told us they have a new chef so I don't feel like all of the previous reviews about the food should matter anymore..
Reservation recommended as this place gets really busy.
There's no parking available with them, you'd either have to find street parking nearby or there's few paid parking lots nearby(you'd have to walk at least half a mile, we parked on Desplaines). Ambience is super cool, you'll enjoy the vibe. Food and service are great but it's on the pricier side. They have pretty good collection of drinks too.
Perfect Spot
Wanted a cute restaurant/lounge for our last night in Chicago and stumbled upon this restaurant as it was one of the only restaurants near that didn't stop serving food at $10. Amazing decorations outside and in. The chef also did a great job with the food garnishes. One of our drinks didn't come, but our server charged it on the house and gave us a discount on the rest of our order. Also recommended two really good desserts! I already told the Taxi driver and a fellow traveller to check this place out.
Expensive, but good food and cocktails.
I was here last summer, and had a brunch with friends. Everything from service to atmosphere to food and drinks quality checked out. The best part of it was a view of the river, It was nice and sunny out, and the staff opened windows, which I appreciated a lot. A very instagramable place. I will probably come back again.

So my old pal Shokko's childhood friend Ginnieshitzu recommended this place to him. We walked in after a play at the Goodman and I was like, "Dude. Please." But, Shokko being Shokko pushed me along and kvetched, "Aw, come on, you might like it." Might. But did not. And once we got through the first round of drinks and an appetizer, I had no desire to see the full menu. Now, granted, the place DOES have that river view going for it. However, as a previous reviewer noted, he or she could not help noticing how much more lively and inviting the bar across the river was. The Shitzu was wrong. Or maybe jealous that Shokko finally decided to add some female "class" into his lonely lethario life, and she is no longer the "it" girl. Anyroad, we wound up paying the tab and wandering farther down south the river, where we wound up at The Branch, drinking cognac and sharing a tray filled with deserts. Yeah, babee. Love was in thee air along with wafts of my Jean PAtou 1,000.....

I was so excited to visit this location, however, it was a major disappointment. It was my fist time in Chicago and was so excited to find a place on the water. However, as I was sitting there, I wished I was across the river at the sports bar instead. The cocktail was not good ("I came. I saw. I conquered. ") was very underwhelming , the Tres Leches dessert was so incredibly stale, and the coffee was bland. What a waste of $70. The only place in all Chicago where I strongly felt was a waste of money. I do not recommend this place. I can't speak for the food as we only ordered dessert, but if it's the same (stale) as the dessert, please spend your money elsewhere. HOWEVER, service was great. Unfortunately, the experience didn't merit a higher rating, even if service was great.
If I could give this restaurants zero stars I would.
Despite the bad reviews we decided to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt, we liked the aesthetic and thought the views could make up for their bad reputation. We were wrong. The food is bland and unappetizing, I should have known the chilaquiles were going to be a disaster when I asked what type of sauce they were and the server had no idea. They were horrible, as someone who grew up eating chilaquiles I feel offended by their lack of effort and the blandness of the sauce. The raw tuna was fine, nothing special about it, I suspect it might have been sitting out of the fridge a while before being served. Which is ironic, because our party of four was served separately, 2 of us finished eating before the other 2 were served. Server was inattentive and a lil rude.

From the dim lights to the walk to the seating area- it's just so cute. I loved the greenery and the decor. Loved how the atmosphere changed when the sunset and the lights were glowing. Perfect for a girls night out or a date night. The service was nice and the drinks and food were also good! The location of this restaurant right by the river gives it the icing on the cake. The views at night set the mood. Loved it.

This location is so lovely to enjoy the river! It's a bit of a maze to get around the restaurant. We had brunch reservations and still had to wait a while until we were finally seated. Our table was a bit small, thankfully had a bar next to our table to put things out of the way. Service was a bit slow so we made sure to put our orders in immediately since we knew it was going to be a while. We shared the burger and fried chicken bao buns. The food was good. I had a gin cocktail that was also tasty and refreshing. Nice spot for views.

We made a reservation for Beatnik on the River to sit down by the water. The restaurant is laid out very strangely, with rooms connecting to each other and zigzagging you around to get to the lower level. It was a very laid-back and relaxing space. Our server walked us through the menu and gave recommendations for dishes and quantities to order. The server spaced all the dishes out as we ordered all at once. The food was pretty good overall with the exception of the Shakshuka. I think it may have sat too long in the heating window in the kitchen because the eggs were cooked through and not runny as they should be. Our brunch at Beatnik was great despite the one dish having a hiccup. I recommend getting the Sangria Bottle! It's a fun way to have an interactive group drink.
Underwhelming and Disappointing
We visited in Feb. of 2022 and loved it: couldn’t wait to come back. After our most recent visit, our feelings have changed. We were not given menus: thinking this was just a pandemic-change, we pulled them up on our phones. We were later given menus. Service was slow and our server didn’t write the orders down but twice had to ask us again because they forgot. Chilaquiles were not good: soggy chips with some scrambled eggs on top and avocado and sour cream around the edge of the plate. Shakahuka was decent, but after asking 3 different people (one of whom was our server) for more pita, we gave up. Chicken bao was honestly laughable: 2 TINY buns for $20. Overall disappointing experience.
Lovely setting, ok food
My hubby and I stopped in on a Saturday night. Didn't make reservations, so we didn't expect to be seated right away. Hostess directed us to the bar in the meantime which was fine. Bartender took care of us with drinks, but we were never seated. I think the hostess forgot about us. We ended up ordering a couple of small plates--cocktail veracruzana and Lomo iberico flatbread. Both were just ok. Overall, lovely setting but rather high prices for what you get, even for Chicago.

* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* EternalAnt36, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* EternalAnt36 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to EternalAnt36 for any questions Peter may have as EternalAnt36 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* EternalAnt36 now uses their connections at Beatnik On The River Chicago to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If EternalAnt36 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, EternalAnt36 receives the $200 reward which is credited to EternalAnt36's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Beatnik On The River Chicago!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
