Baroo Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
I had such a sweet and great time at Baroo.
There is a parking garage that you can park your car and I think with validation it was like $12. The servers were so so attentive and answered all of our questions and even gave us great recommendations for the alcohol options. I came here with some girlfriends and we were also like 15 minutes late to the reservation but they were still kind enough to seat us. The food was amazing! I can't even describe the many flavors we got to try. Our favorites were the beginners, the bread and the scallops. The short rib entree was also one of our favorites, although we tried all the entree options. Highly highly recommend coming here

I've now been to enough Korean tasting menus (baroo, joseon, hibi) to say that baroo is indeed the best one so if you're unsure... come to this one. I'd 100% come back to baroo but I can't say the same about the other two Still easy to make a reservation. I found street parking but.. I can imagine it being difficult usually in that area. Every dish was "wow that's so good!" And was a creative use of Korean flavors. Also, drinks were A++. Menu was from November 2023.
Los Angeles, Arts District.
May 2024. Baroo is dead. Long live Baroo! If you missed Baroo 1.0, in an unmarked spot on Santa Monica and Wilton, w just a chalkboard menu, then rejoice in Baroo 2.0 on a residential part of E 2nd St. Their new place, in their own words, is "known for its experimental spirit and focus on fermentation". As part of the new Los Angeles Korean wave of high quailty restaurants, owners Chef Kwang Uh and his wife and partner, Mina Park, emphasize being accessible and affordable, recognizing that their customers work hard for the money they spend at Baroo. In addition to value, Baroo is inclusive in it's community of employees and patrons. In a city with more than enough self-promoting restauranters who seek stardom, this couple treats you like a guest in their home. Kwang Uh and Mina Park met at a South Korean buddhist temple, Baegyangsu. There, chef and nun, Jeong Kwan, gathers, ferments, and cooks exceptional vegan meals that keep to tradition but are willing to breaks the rules. The prix fixe menu at Baroo reflects an ethos thoughtfully introducing courses with simple words that mean one thing but are used to evoke a different feeling. The current menu opens with a pair. A rice cake or bread made using makgeolli, sool bang, topped with a mildly spicy nduja paste and wispy slivers of gouda. The partner is a sweet kabocha porridge, dan hobak, topped with a cappucino foam of dark brown, bitter, medicinal ssangwha tea, and accompanied by a seed cracker. Hiding in the depths of the juk are delightful cubes of nutrional powerhouse pichuberry. There is a piece of sole battered with parae (aka Japanese aonori powder), topped with an aioli of gochu and naengi ( a Korean spring green). This is served on a piece of butter lettuce and eaten by hand as ssam. Another fish, Eun daegu (aka black cod or butterfish), is soy braised. Instead of being a sweet red jorim it maintains a light color. It sits in a lemongrass and buttermilk butter sauce accompanied by crunchy deep fried green papaya sticks, a water kimchi dongchimi, and micro shiso. The single dessert is a bingsu. This starts with a guava panna cotta base, an ice cream of goguma (sweet potato) and doenjang (Korean miso) in the middle, with a final sprinkle of bingsu made from sujeongwa (a sweet cinnamon and ginger dessert drink) and rose omija. The garnishes are candied walnuts and petals of blood sorrel. One cocktail to try is the Negroni Shilsu. With a purple grey color from makgeolli made with black forbidden rice, bitterness from Apertivo Cappelletti, and a thin consistency, this doesn't look or taste like a Negroni. Shilsu! It's a mistake. Shilsu! Most people will not understand the playful name. A colorful and flavorful blend of traditional Korean and the bounty of California. Wildly playful and experimental. Try not to let your head spin listening to the dish descriptions using English and Korean - just look, appreciate, and eat. Baroo just shoves.
Fantastic tasting menu.
Loved every dish that we tasted. Nice ambiance with good service. Only negative for the evening is the 30 min wait for our table past our reserved time.
In a word, PHENOMENAL.
We celebrated our 10 year anniversary here last week and from the moment I made the reservation I was sure I had picked the right place for our celebration. Even before stepping foot into the restaurant, I felt welcomed and cared for. Prior to our reservation, Mina reached out to me to coordinate our dietary restrictions (the vegan menu for me, some tweaks to the regular menu for my husband). The night of our reservation we arrived early but were immediately seated. We were at the bar, which was cool because we could watch all the magic happening in the kitchen. The vibe of the restaurant is cool and unpretentious, despite its high-end dining pedigree. Our server Alex was equally unpretentious. He was warm and friendly and made note of our special dietary requests at the outset. We were checked on frequently and with a big smile. As for the food...stunning! Some of the very best vegan food I've ever had. I can't believe the vegan menu has only been up and running for a month. Delicious and complex flavors left me blown away. Upon learning it was our anniversary, Alex brought us some complimentary champagne to toast the occasion. On several occasions I chatted directly with Mina (co-owner of the restaurant) and found her absolutely lovely and gracious. There was so much love put into the food and it could definitely be felt in each bite. I adored the entire experience from start to finish! Chef Kwan and Mina were kind enough to sign the menu for us, and even wrote us a Happy Anniversary note. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made me feel very special. The signed menu is a keepsake that I know I will treasure for a long time to come. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem. I wish Kwan and Mina all the success with their beautiful restaurant!

Spectacular meal and great friendly service! I came for my law school graduation dinner and they gave my table free champagne and I got a handwritten congratulations note from the host :') Consistently great bites, def get the short rib upgrade if available!

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday, and it was the best dining experience I've ever had. Unique dishes are so risky but everything was really delicious, especially considering I'm not the biggest fan of seafood. The cocktails were also unique and unforgettable, and as expected, service was impeccable. For my birthday, they also got my birth information and were able to give me a Korean horoscope. I definitely recommend coming here for a special occasion (or just cause)
My experience at Baroo was nothing short of exceptional.
From the service to the food, everything here was incredible. I made reservations ahead of time for my birthday and while parking in the Arts District can be a headache, we luckily came earlier in the evening (5:15ish) and snagged a spot on a side street. Upon entering, you are invited by a calm, modern ambience that sets the mood for one of the best meals you will ever indulge in. The kindness and welcoming manner each staff member radiates makes the entire dining experience even better. Their set tasting menu is one to remember and each dish is thoughtfully curated and heightens all of your senses. This modern Korean restaurant encapsulates the essences of the gifts of nature. It is difficult to choose my favorite dish because each one was beautifully presented and there were so many incredible flavors that I have never tasted before. You have to come here to experience it all- it truly is a meal worthwhile.

Had an amazing birthday dinner here! Food was all great, portion sizes were perfect, and everyone was so nice.
This place is a dream.
A single tasting menu keeps it simple, but every bite was heaven. The nonalcoholic pairing is hand-crafted kombucha, and I think it's even better than booze because of its uniqueness. The starter snacks are amazing: a small bowl of squash soup topped with a seedy, puffy crisp and a mochi-like bread base with crispy edges with the most memorable chewy texture. A single seared Scallop is spectacular, the Ssam is a beautiful spread of leaves encasing a wedge of sole with the crispiest skin. There's a melt-in-your-mouth black Cod, with a lightly pickled radish and crispy fried green papaya, and the Pork Collar is impossibly tender, in a savory red jjigae sauce. The show-stealer is the creamy dollop of white kimchi. A small supplement gets you Beef Short Rib instead of pork, and it is the tenderest you'll ever eat. A delicious dish but not as creative as the rest of the menu. With these meaty mains, you get the best rice bowl in the world. Every grain of rice is dotted with bits of aromatic mountain greens. A pickled paste of perilla leaves with lotus and sunchoke are fragrant from fermentation and a dollop of XO sauce brings on a fishy umani that makes every other flavor explode. This may be the best thing I've EVER eaten. Dessert is a melon panna cotta on one side, a smooth ice cream on the other. The topping is a bitter sorrel bingsu that almost mimics matcha. Wow, this is amazing. Forget all the Michelins, Baroo just might be my new favorite (and BEST!) restaurant in LA.
This is one of the best restaurants in LA right now.
Food and flavors are creative and original. Service is welcoming and relaxed. I would go before it gets hard to get reservations. Went here for a special occasion and was glad we decided to go!

Decided to try Baroo out as my friend raved about how good it was! Baroo offers a decent-sized tasting menu that is a modern twist on Korean food. I appreciated the creativity a lot! Really enjoyed the Hokkaido scallop and the Soy-Braised Wild Black Cod. And you must take the upgrade to the Brandt Beef Short Rib, it is absolutely delectable! I will note that if you're expecting to be super full after this meal, this isn't the place for you. Service is pretty good here. They took their time to explain every dish to you, as I would expect from a place with a tasting menu. They also cleaned off every dish promptly and made sure you had the right utensils for each course. Good attention to detail. Ambience is alright. It's in the Arts District in one of those brick buildings, so it had a rustic feel to it. Only thing I would quibble about is that the tables were spaced pretty closely together, but they have a pretty small space so it is what it is. Overall, I really liked Baroo. And not just myself, as they already got Michelin recognition even though they have been open for less than a year. Perhaps a prelude to them getting a star in the next Michelin Guide?
Absolutely stunning experience.
From start to finish - it was curated with the utmost thought and care. We can't wait to return.

We had the pleasure of indulging in Baroo Los Angeles' Korean tasting menu priced at $110 per person, complemented by Korean sool pairings. Each course of the tasting menu was a masterpiece, carefully curated to showcase the depth and complexity of Korean flavors. We opted for the "왕 -- 旺 -- WANG " dish , which presented a choice between peads & barnett pork collar with goulash jjigae, baek kimchi, and ssam, or brandt beef short rib with burdock jus, baek kimchi, and ssam. For my main course, I savored the delectable pork collar, served with a rich goulash jjigae, tangy baek kimchi, and the perfect accompaniment of ssam. Equally impressive was my partner's choice of the brandt beef short rib, elevated by a velvety burdock jus, alongside the refreshing baek kimchi and ssam. Each dish presented was not only visually stunning but also a delightful explosion of flavors. The menu's theme left a lasting impression with its gorgeous presentation and incredible flavors. The setting was relaxed yet warm, creating the perfect ambiance for a culinary adventure.
BOO BAROO.
We spent over $1000 there last night for five people including friends from Amsterdam, one of whom was a chef who owns a popular restaurant w Bib Gourmand Michelin rating. We were there because our chef friend wanted to try it and we were all excited for the preset courses. Take it as a bad sign that the first thing I'm doing while still lying in bed this morning is writing this review because I cannot get over what a disappointment it was. This is the first time I've ever given a bad review. Not one thing stood out on the menu is particularly good, or even good. Maybe the dessert. That's it. A few things to know before you go. The Space. It's industrial modern with high ceilings and sound travels badly. It's hard to hear the people at your table but you can hear every fork and dish around the restaurant and in the kitchen. This made it hard to hear our server, which leads me to. THE SERVICE. At Dish One, the soft spoken yet stern server explained the first dish to us with a lot of words in a monotone, it was some pumpkin cappuccino thing that's like one bite of a creamy pudding type dish and you are supposed to use a special wooden spoon and crumble in these crispy seeded things on the side. I asked one question and this mean school marm server says woth consternation --"LIKE I SAID.... " And proceeds to - I guess repeat herself..?-- in an aggravated tone that i still could not hear. But that set the tone for our "Fun" evening. Of course no one dared ask a question about anything else after that. And it would have been nice to be able to since the menu is intentionally obtuse with buddhist "cycle of life" names that don't really tell you anything about the food you are eating. The other server, a guy, was nicer but not great. He stumbled, didn't really seem to know all that much about the food he was explaining, had no stand-out personal skills, seemed like a new server at a third rate restaurant like Houstons or something. (Meanwhile an hour earlier we had all literally hugged goodbye our server who served us cocktails on the rooftop of The Proper hotel - Nicole- she was smiling and kind, charged my phone at the bar, gave us recommendations, we felt welcomed, even I dare say-loved. Go there!!) which leads me to - The Drinks. Stinking soju. Not clear on the "cocktail" menu that the $16 Negroni is not actual alcohol. I guess they don't have a liquor license beyond wine and beer. I would have ordered a beer had I realized that. Cloudy rice water pretending to be a Negroni felt like a misrepresentation. This review autocorrected me to capitalize Negroni for a reason. Words have meanings. But the wine was not much better. Two of us got the wine pairing menu for $65 - nothing was great. No one told us anything about the wine. Unless we didn't hear them. Who was going to ask after the LIKE I SAID witch shut us down when explaining the first course. The Food. I have no idea what we ate. I literally do not remember. Something was pork. It was forgettable. No flavor packed a punch. We've had much better food there past few dsys at lowkey spots. HOLBOX where we had lunch was incredible and not expensive- so memorable I want to go back today. I would have paid Baroo prices for HOLBOX and would not pay Holbox prices for Baroo. Also Malibu Farms was delicious on the beach and much better value than Baroo. LIKE I SAID -- BOO BAROO Edited to add- I remembered some of what we had. The scallop was overcooked. I could have used a knife to cut it. The cod was flaky and cooked perfectly. The pork was okay. I did like the pumpkin cappuccino starter. And the dessert was unique and pretty delicious.
Very good omakase in a beautiful space in the arts district.
I'm in between 4 and 5 stars. Only reason I'm not giving 5 is the service and presentation (how dishes are delivered, not the food) was okay and more like a traditional restaurant and really nothing special. Some of the dishes were just dropped off with no real explanation to the dish and even how to eat it properly. Either way food is great and innovative, worth a try!
Overall a 4/5: Food 5/5 Great tasting menu.
Every dish was fantastic! Got the upgrade to beef ribs, it was the one of the best of the entire menu. Service 5/5 Portion Size 2/5: Went hungry and wasn't full at the end of the meal. Had to go for tacos after. If you're expecting korean bbq kinda food, this is not your place. Worth trying but do note weekend reservations are gone pretty quickly so book in advance. They've only been open for 3-4 months so the menu hasn't changed yet, but I heard it will soon so I will definitely come again.

Baroo was one of three restaurants I booked as part of a weekend extravaganza to celebrate my husband's 55th birthday. Not every dish was entirely successful but Baroo surprised us in ways that a restaurant hasn't in awhile and for that reason, it was our favorite of the three places we dined at. We loved the combination of flavors, the beautiful presentation, the introduction of some ingredients we weren't familiar with, and how the courses progressively told a story. At $110/pp for the tasting menu, it is an incredible value. With all the Korean restaurants in LA, I'm surprised there aren't more modern takes on fine Korean cuisine. Baroo fills that hole and does it admirably. We're looking forward to seeing how the restaurant evolves.

I had a wonderful experience here! Service was great, food was fresh, beautifully presented, and the atmosphere was cozy. I love that the kitchen isn't closed off completely and you can see that they are working back there. My favorite drink was the banana milk punch. Perfectly balanced. I can drink that every day if I could afford it . Every dish was so well balanced between taste and texture. I will note that the owners had their child there. He was adorable. Adorable in the sense that they let him be him at an upscale restaurant. It reminded me of my cousins who's parents owned restaurants it they were always kept in the back or manning the cash register or doing homework if they were ever in the presence of customers. This child made noises and the staff did their best to keep him calm - but he's a kid. Not sure what he got worked up over but I enjoyed the fact that they didn't scowl at him. He went around and showed the customers his artwork on a banana. And when the staff saw he might have been bothering one table, they quickly scooted him elsewhere. Well done all around to this family and the staff.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
