Barn Joo 35 New York Reviews from The Last Year

I had a reservation for 2 people at 7pm on a Friday and if you make a reservation, you get to spin the prize wheel. We won a free soju cocktail and we choose passion fruit which was good and it had an ice cube with gummies in it. We like the cocktail so we got the soju flight which had fruity flavors. The corn cheese was good because it wasn't just corn and cheese like some places, but had some veggies and good sauce. The soft shell crab and garlic shrimp tacos were yummy too. I was too full by the time our bulgogi main came, which had bulgogi, potatoes, and corn. It's a busy, loud, and bustling place to grab Korean bites.
This place rocks.
On so many levels!!! The tapas fusion forward menu provides multiple options in terms of textures, proteins and spicy/sweetness. We started with a Flight of their signature drinks which ranged from slightly sweet to super sweet -- the cucumber and forsynthe were my favorite -- combination of balance, taste and being refreshing. We shared an order of Galbi (Beef) Buns which were planetarily delicious. The Bulgogi Street Tacos with guacamole and sour cream were tasty and full of flavor. The lime zest was a nice added touch. The fried soft shell crab was different and uniquely fresh with a spicy wasabi mayo-naisy-ish sauce. The surprise side dish were thinly sliced pickled chayote.... What a unique tarty, sweet and crunchy taste. YUM. Friendly, professional and attentive wait service Reasonable prices. I would definitely return.
Optimal
A great Korean dining experience in the heart of New York! the cuisine offered by this place is delicious. The staff is courteous and attentive.
It was pretty good.
Korean food with a bit of creativity. Everything was delicious. Bulgogi tacos, stewed kalbi, japchae, and seafood noodles soup were all good choices. We didn't get drinks but the drinks looked great. Good vibe here with typical K Town feel. Service was decent too. Overall a good spot.

Genuinely love coming here the foods always amazing and the atmosphere it what you'd expect when in Ktown. Really fun spot you'll usually get your food fast, my only complaint is recent I went to eat and ordered the Uni Bibimbap. There menu said it was $21 but on my receipt I was charged $26. Not a big deal but was only a bit upset because I would've ordered another dish. Overall really great place to eat and order out from!

Restaurant was full and lively at 6pm, luckily we had a reservation. We ate family style and ordered an assortment of items which were a little bit larger than tapa sizes but smaller than standard appetizers. Food was nicely plated. Food itself had a fusion feel to it as they weren't really traditionally prepared but I'm a fan of fusion. Items ordered pictured below (truffle fries we won from the wheel spin demolished before I could take pic) and I would order most again, the only note I have was that the kalbi hotstone pot was lacking in the meat dept. Tip: Make a reservation and spin the wheel for a free food or beverage item.

When my office used to be located in Union Square, I had always had my eye on Barn Joo, however once we moved closer to Washington Square, I was kicking myself that I never made the effort to come here for happy hour. One Friday after visiting a museum, I was surprised and excited to find that I was minutes away from Barn Joo location and popped over. I was ecstatic to find that while it was prime time for after work drinks and meals that I was able to snag two seats at the bar. The drinks both mocktails and cocktails were expansive along with their handhelds, shareables, entree items and more. It was hard to pick just a few to gnosh on. I ended up getting the: yuzu soda, hibiscus limeade, the cheesy corn, calamari with nuts, fried chicken (nuggets sized hehe), and truffle fries. Everything came out fast, piping hot, and was delicious and came with great dipping sauces. The portions were just right for two people to split and all the flavors were fantastic. I honestly- couldn't get enough of each. My only regret is that I came in for snacks and didn't have the time to eat a proper meal as their entrees like their hot soups and bowls looked fantastic as well. The next time I'm in the area - I'm making a proper reservation so I can sit down and order a full dinner as everything that came out of there looked great. The service was solid, friendly and fast. The food was delicious, fun, with beautiful flavors. If you're looking for a quiet, intimate meal, this is not the spot but for a high-energy, fun way to kick start your weekend with good vibes, this is it.
Pretty good option in Korea town.
We went very last minute and they were booked but offered us bar seating and then had a cancelation so it worked out. It's a cute little restaurant. The food was good. I'm a huge fan of japchae and it was pretty good here. The scallion pancake was also delicious. We also shared the kalgooksu which is the soup with noodles and the Korean bbq chicken. I was disappointed that there was no banchan as there would be in most traditional Korean restaurants to start. Other than that no complaints.
Everything was just amazing .
..best popcorn chicken ...the bulgogi hot stone bowl ... just go.

I was in New York for a few days last week, and this place was right by our hotel, so we decided to give it a try. I'm really glad we did because even though it's a small place, and being a bigger fellow, I constantly felt like I was in somebody's way when they walked by our table, I still loved the vibe here. Service was prompt and friendly. Our waiter took our order, brought water when we asked for it, and otherwise made us feel quite comfortable. The food was excellent. We had the fried calamari with peanuts, the spicy charred chicken, and my partner also got the tiger rolls. Everything tasted fantastic. I loved my experience here and if I'm ever back in NYC, I'd come again.
Came here for dinner tonight.
It was quite busy, but we made a reservation. When you make your reservation, you get to spin the wheel of prizes and I landed on the free drinks one and it was yummy. The corn and cheese was really yummy and the spicy pork was OK. We also got the buns and they were also OK. Good if you are looking for a casual place to eat with friends. Probably wouldn't come again though.
Disappointing
This used to be an inexpensive authentic Korean restaurant. Maybe Covid caused owners to dumb it down and serve rather tasteless food. No kimchi on the menu but if you ask you can get it. They served tea from a Lipton tea bag! Aargh! Five years ago tea would be served in a lovely heavy metal teapot. Sadly, I wouldn’t go back.
Chill time
Drinks only at the bar (coming for dinner tomorrow!). wonderful service, great best and cocktails. Polished off with a free spirit. Great couple of hours drinking and chilling.
Very good
I ordered some very good steamed pork dumplings. A hot dish based on mushroom rice and tofu, delicious. Excellent care.
AVOID It When You Are As Tourist! Overcharge You Card!
The merchant altered my bill, unjustly adding over $20 (seemingly to achieve a 25% tip AFTER Tax See Receipt). Then, they proactively and arrogantly contacted me to lie. Despite presenting the original receipt, they insist no overcharge was made on my amount. Shockingly, they manipulated the service charge I left on the receipt, inputting an arbitrary amount they wanted into their system. Their approach was baffling, reaching out only to offer lies, even when confronted with the ORIGINAL receipt I kept and provided. This left me no choice but to seek assistance from my bank. Very few staff members. The male at the front desk was very rude. We arrived a few minutes early, and many places were available; he mentioned that we would need to wait for just the right time for our reservation. However, after a while, another female staff member took us straight in. Management was very disorganized. You could barely call for a staff for the entire dining experience. The food was very greasy, and the soup tasted very powdery. All these are acceptable, but the bill modification disappointed me, and I left this review.
Super good!
Excellent romantic evening, The food is good. Delicious hot spot! The service is efficient and friendly. The atmosphere is great! We recommend
Cold reception, too bad
A cold welcome from the hostess, not a smile. We had reservations and she didn't even offer to spin the wheel. Then she didn't even confirm our reservation on the reservation platform. Fortunately the service was quick. Dishes not too bad but the meat is too fatty. Otherwise the cocktails are good and the decor is modern. Clean restaurant. The hostess was not up to the task.
Tasty Food!
My husband and I went to dinner recently to celebrate his birthday. We were seated quickly and as we made a reservation, spun the wheel and got a free beer! The servers were friendly and efficient! The items ordered (wings, buns, dumplings) were tasty! We had a great time!

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
