Went there last week and the food was good and service was nice. But today I saw the payment went through for Astoria and they gave themselves a 70 dollar tip on my 32.45 bill. They don't have a number I can find or an email I can contact them through. The charge was disputed but I won't be returning here. Don't forget to check your charges

Everything is great but you must order the the "DBJ Fish" - it's the last item on the "old menu" ... It's one of their original offerings and you won't find anything like anywhere. It is awesome!

Walnut Shrimp (5/5): The star of the show, this was delicious. I loved how sweet and creamy the sauce was, and the walnuts added a nice little crunch. Beef Noodles (4/5): Simple and tasty. The noodles were fat and SUPER long (it was almost like it was just one long noodle). Potato Slivers (4/5): Very similar to the ones Mom made growing up but more oily and garlic-y. Dan Dan Noodles (4/5): Strong chili oil flavor which I enjoyed. The minced pork was nice, but I wished there was a lot more of it. Red Braised Pork (3/5): Good sauce and tender meat, I'm just not a huge fan of the think layer of fat. Chili Wontons (3/5): Decent wonton, but most of the flavor was just chili oil. OG La-Zi Chicken (2/5): Made the mistake of eating a bunch of the szechuan peppers thinking they wouldn't be too spicy since there were so many in the dish... Well, they were too spicy. WAAAY too spicy (for me at least). The chicken was also really salty which didn't help either. *I also liked the Voodoo Grog cocktail. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

I wanted to leave a good review since the good was really good. But I left my credit card at the restaurant and I was not able to find a phone number anywhere to contact them. It sucks that the restaurant is trying to keep their phone number as a secret. I am leaving DC tomorrow morning. How can I get my credit card back?

Might be my new fav place in DC, mainly because the beef noodles changed my life. But really, everything here at Astoria is executed flawlessly. Every dish has so much flavor I feel like you can't go wrong with their menu items. We ordered noodles, crab fried rice, OG lazi chicken and beef bowl for dinner for 2. All great and plenty of leftovers. Overall friendly staff and decent prices for what you get

I go here all the time, very difficult to get seating but the basil eggplant is worth it.

Amazing authentic sizchuan food, love the entire menu and the restaurant. Be prepared for some spice! Cocktails are also amazing, every one we tried was so unique and well made. Highly recommend going to Astoria!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, fantastic and fun cocktails, and good food.
The dan dan noodles were so great!! The atmosphere is very fun

Reposting this since my personal bad experience has to be edited for yelp. This review is more so for the poor service not food related. I Visited DC and stopped by here with my family for dinner. The waiter was I guess to be polite just unnecessarily rude, even though I have no reason to really be polite since they certainly were not ! ( my prior review provided a detailed description of the waiter for the purpose of management knowing who is being referred to as they should be held accountable for providing bad service) The food itself was fine. We ordered the salt and pepper shrimp , pea shoots and a few other things which we enjoyed. The one thing I did not enjoy was the snippy comments from the waiter who's name we unfortunately did not remember. my cousin asked them a question about an appetizer and she mentioned to the waiter not wanting anything that was going to be too much work/messy to eat. The waiter then proceeded to tell my cousin "well if cutting with a knife is too much work then.." followed by an explanation of the appetizer. Now why couldn't they just explain the appetizer choices without making that smart comment? another unnecessary comment they made was when we asked for straws prior to ordering appetizers they then proceeded to tell us "let's focus on appetizers first" like a few straws is so difficult to go and get. They also did not come to check on us throughout the meal and seemed as if they were avoiding our table . The only time they really said anything polite was when they came over and saw we were finishing up the bill and adding Our tips ! Mind you we did not even want to too but we did and more than what was even deserved. Now I'm not saying their behavior had anything to do with bias but what was the purpose for their very snippy/snooty attitude for a group of 3 AA women in DC of all places ?! They seemed to check on their other tables pretty often while we were there. Again food good ! Service and that particular waiter was a no.
Be the first to ReplyRude service.
Claims reservations mean small party cannot sit outside. This contradicts their reservations. A shame.

Ivana and the whole staff were soooo welcoming and hospitable. We got a few rounds of the delicious tacos and a few cocktails, we'll definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyAstoria used to be my absolute favorite.
I would look forward to it like a kid waiting for Santa. However the quality of the food has dropped significantly and the last two times we had to send food back. For example, the steak chimichurri used to be my absolute favorite. Now it's nearly inedible. Hopefully this situation is resolved so we can start eating there again. The drinks are still great, however.

I love love love Astoria and make it my mission to try and visit at least quarterly. Although it's rare I ever have a reservation, I have become pretty comfortable hanging at the bar until seats open up. The staff do a great job managing that and giving realistic expectations for the wait so it's never been an issue! All the drinks are about $17 and they have plenty of yummy options to choose from. I have ordered both on and off menu and have yet to have something I don't enjoy. The food is AMAZING and I have rave reviews about the chili wontons, beef noodles, and dan dan noodles. However my favorite dish HANDS DOWN is the crab fried rice so imagine my shock when visiting last week and they no longer carry it. My fingers are crossed the owners read this and decide to bring it back because it truly was a gem! Regardless of the loss of my favorite dish I will continue to patronize this wonderful establishment. They have the best ambiance but inside and outside, helpful/attentive staff, and delicious food. Astoria is always a good idea!
Be the first to ReplyReally good place for casual drinks and food.
Drinks are expensive at $17 each but they are well made. The food is the better deal! Two of us shared the salt and pepper fried eggplant and Dan Dan noodles and it was enough. I cannot rave enough about the salt and pepper fried eggplant - so crispy and spicy. It's great! Service was good, but not particularly helpful with the food descriptions, but was great at helping us select cocktails. The bartender made great variations on old fashioneds, too!
Be the first to ReplyMy experience here was not so great.
The business literally only had 2/3 things available out of 9-10 things that were listed on the menu. The food was salty. The drinks were average.
Be the first to Replyabsolutely incredible food and vibe.
i heard about this place because it has a bib gourmand designation, and saw that the menu was designed for sharing, so i invited a few of my friends for dinner. technically our party was a little too large for what astoria says they accommodate (they say 6 - we were 8) but the hostess was incredibly sweet and managed to seat us at a corner table that we squeezed into. we ordered a lot of dishes and they came out in waves, which was great. there was lots of stuff on the table that i didn't personally eat, so i'll stick to what i did! IMPOSSIBLE MAPO - incredible. the tofu was so soft and the sauce so delectable. 8/10 PEA SHOOTS - so delicious and garlicky!!! 7/10 POTATO SLIVERS - my least favorite dish of the night. still good but not that great compared to the rest of the dishes. i didn't love the texture of the potatoes and the flavor was slightly lacking. 5/10 VEGAN NOODLES - absolutely delicious garlicky and chili oil laden noodles, my #2 dish of the night. 9/10 GARLIC EGGPLANT - the shining star!!! this was the best dish of the night and maybe the best eggplant i've ever had? even the eggplant haters at the table liked this one. the sauce was delicious and thick and rich, and the eggplant was perfectly crispy at the edges and soft on the inside. i could actually eat this every day. 11/10 my drink was the spindrift jr which was super delicious ! overall this experience was absolutely amazing and i can't wait to go back! (probably with a smaller group of people)

We show up at 11:10-11:13 on a Saturday night, website said food last call is at midnight drinks is at 2. The front host told us that if I have 3 or more in my PT we are not going to make for the food last call, cuz they're booked out on there last food call spots (whatever that means) and we even told her we don't have to sit together and not all of us going to order food, but she said no anyways to us!! But people show up after us gets seated. While we wait for our Uber, 2 minutes before their kitchen last called she have the audacity to come us to us said "ohh you all still here, do you all wants to come in get a drink? Order some food? The kitchen close in 2 min!" I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE REGARDLESS FOOD OR DRINKS IS GOOD OR NOT! if your website's said last call is at midnight then you follow your timelines! It shouldn't be going by quantity!! By far the worst DC experience!

so sad how it became super busy because i was gatekeeping this place for so long since they opened. although expensive EVERYTHING i tried for food and all the drinks are soo good. i love their noodles, eggplant, mapotofu, wontons and everything
Be the first to ReplyFood wasn't too authentic, but the flavors were pretty good.
I liked the beef noodles, but I thought that the boiled beef was way too salty, when it should've been more mala-flavored and spicy than salty. Ambiance was sexy-- good for date night. Service was great!

i had such a wonderful meal here! it's a beautiful place on the inside; very cozy vibe, perfect place to go for drinks and to chat, or for a date night! it's a busy place so i'd recommend a reservation (even on non-weekend nights). to drink, i got a moscow mule which was delicious, very ginger-y. to eat, we ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, Chili Wontons, Double Cooked Pork (which came with a large side of rice), and the Walnut Shrimp. honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite dish since everything was so great! the portion sizes are great, even the dishes for one. the noodles and the walnut shrimp are staples and i will get them every time i go! overall, it's a great spot and very well deserving of the hype. already looking forward to going back!
Be the first to ReplyPrince was our server and he was also new.
Prince as very attentive and very helpful! The ambience was amazing and the music was good! we will be looking for Prince again when we come the weekend for brunch! The food omg always get the chef tour! Them wings are crack with the fries, the Prosecco with pops were so good, the salt and pepper, shrimp, and the honey, roast beef, hands-down, wait the soup and the salad I almost passed out it was so good. I don't even eat my salad the way they made it but that's the only way I want a salad from now on. Me and my baby has so much fun and it was amazing after a long day of work.
Be the first to ReplyAstoria DC is easily one of my FAVORITE DC restaurants.
Food + Service + Ambiance = 10/10! If you're seeking a delicious meal, hand-crafted cocktails and a vibe, I'd say head over now!I first heard about Astoria DC through word of mouth. I couldn't snag a reservation, but the wait is never terribly long. In fact, they often allow you to grab a drink at the bar while you wait. Speaking of bar, Ian is our favorite bartender! He makes a sensational gin smash! Can't forget Alex too!Now onto the food! Astoria DC offers an array of Sichuan-style food & drinks in an ornate, railroad-style space with rich colors & moody lighting. Be prepared for a kick of spice and flavor in each dish. My favorites include: the La-Zi Chicken, Hot N Sour Wontons, Crab Fried Rice and of course the best ever Walnut Shrimp. The portions are large so bring your appetite. This is a great spot to visit for night cap. Bring your friends and tell them Jaz sent you!
Be the first to ReplyWhen I travel I seldom if ever dine at the same restaurant
When I travel I seldom if ever dine at the same restaurant or bar twice as I like to explore as much as possible. My girlfriend and I came here twice for the food and stellar cocktails. Traveling the world not only is this the best DC has to offer but also the world in my opinion, all things considered. Get to know the bartenders and they will concoct a world class cocktail to your desire. However very casual with a semi loud vibe but great tunes, high top seating a bit cramped.

I put my name down at 5:30pm on a Thursday for my party of two and was told the wait would be 1 hour 45 min for a booth seat. My friend and I walked around Dupont so we were able to scurry back when they texted us early and the wait turned out to be just an hour. The waitstaff is super on top of it and food came out really timely. It was more or less as a dish was ready rather than everything at once. Plain rice isn't mentioned in the menu because it's unlimited, which is nice because szechuan food definitely helps with a lot of rice. My friend and I loved the salt and pepper eggplant, potato slivers, and impossible mapo. The restaurant is pretty tight inside. They have outdoor and indoor seating.
Be the first to ReplyNot as good as it used to be.
As a Chinese, Astoria used to be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in town. Now Astoria tastes like Mexican and Chinese fusion.
