Lovely place with delicious food and lively ambiance.
Service was impeccable. Server picked a wine based on my preference. Will likely go there again!
Be the first to ReplyWe went on Valentines night for the first time.
I was expecting more I guess, like table cloths, bread with oil, those classic trattoria features. No salt and pepper on the tables. Well, we sure needed them. The special Putanesca dish ($35) with squid ink pasta was not seasoned... really. It was also not hot from the kitchen, same for my fettucini with clams. It all seemed to sit too long before serving. And why don't the servers come around to offer shredded cheese or ground pepper? Another Austin restaurant without real pro servers seemed to us. Probably will not be back.

Had a wonderful start to my Birthday Weekend at ASTI! Our server, Justin, did a great job taking care of us! I'd love to give more than 5, but Yelp has a limiter. 100/10 would go again!

Amazing food, amazing service! It was our first time here and every single food we got was outstanding! The desserts were absolutely delicious! Service was fast and the staff were awesome. The parking lot was also a plus! Thank you! We will be back again!

I don't know how it took me so many years to discover ASTI but it is easily my favorite Italian restaurant in Austin now. From its location in quaint Hyde Park to the fantastic server we had to the incredible pasta dishes, ASTI delivered on all the marks! Drinks: A fantastic and refreshing house cocktail with prosecco, sweet vermouth, lemon, earl grey syrup, and bitters Appetizer: Fried Artichokes, which were perfectly crisp yet tender although the portion left me wanting a bit more Entrees: Lamb Sugo Mafaldine (frilly pasta soaked up all the delicious sauce wonderfully and the braised lamb was extremely comforting), Pasta Amatriciana with Ground Sausage (outstanding especially with the ground sausage added, but the sauce alone with delicious), Grilled Salmon (perfectly cooked and the white bean and brussels ragout was the perfect complement). Unfortunately we were so full we did not have room for dessert but definitely will be returning!
Be the first to ReplyAsti is not worth the price tag.
Went last night and we ordered two glasses of wine, two main dishes and we spent $100 with tip. I was caught off guard by the quality of the pasta considering the cost of all main dishes being between $23 - $37. My wife ordered the carbonara which was 4/5 good. The pasta did not taste fresh, almost like it was undercooked. I ordered the clams linguine and was disappointed. The size of the dish for the price tag was really unacceptable. The pasta again tasted undercooked. This was our second time here as we didn't enjoy our first time, but based on reviews wanted to come back to try it again. Unfortunately this experience plus last time put a "fork in it" for us to try Asti again.
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of my favorite stops in Austin.
It used to be in my regular rotation during law school and I'm so glad the place hasn't changed too much over the years. Chris and his team do such an amazing job year over year. My wife would yell at me if I didn't mention the vibes. This place is terrific for an intimate dinner or with a small group of friends. Bring your date here because it's guaranteed to go well. The food is amazing. The first time I came Jennifer recommended the pasta carbonara for me. I'm normally not inclined to eat the same dish multiple times if I haven't tried everything else on the menu but honestly it's so good I get it every time. Their stuffed mushrooms are to die for. The white bean dip needs extra crostinis because you're not going to want to waste a single morsel. The calamari was excellent too. I came this last time with my wife and some friends of ours. My wife got the Capellini and she made me specially write it down so she could remember to get it next time. There was a house special butternut squash pasta that one of the vegetarians in the group ordered and it was excellent. My other friend ordered the lamb sugo Mafaldine. It was so good I might consider ordering it next time. They were pretty busy and our waitress was juggling a few tables inside and outside. We still didn't feel like there was any lack of service. She stopped by our table regularly and ensured we were getting everything on time. Even the owner came by to present a bottle of wine for us! Jennifer is great and the entire waitstaff is consistently excellent. I've raved enough. If you're still reading what are you doing here. Go to Asti and keep this place bustling!

We didn't have reservations so we waited 20 min. I highly recommend that you make reservations during the weekend. Food was ok not impressed at all. I ordered pasta Amatriciana and the sauce was watery with no flavor. I had better pasta All' amatriciana. My son had pizza and he loved it. I tried his pizza and it was good. The food took over 30 minutes to come out and it wasn't the best. Our waitress was very nice and she apologized for the wait.

Made reservations on OpenTable. Nice drink discounts for weekday happy hour. They carry imported Italian beer. My favorite was the lamb ragu pasta. Chef walked around to say hi to all the tables. Will definitely add this to our list of favorite Austin restaurants.

Went here with a friend who lives nearby and it's a near perfect neighborhood restaurant. Prices are pretty reasonable. I was allowed to hang out for an hour since I was early. Pizza was good, hot and had nice crispy crust. Warm, friendly service. I will be back.
Be the first to ReplyIt's tough to get into the spot.
We booked an outdoor patio seat for a Saturday night and bundled up. The outside patio has two large space heaters and it can be cozy and warm in some spots, but still quite chilly around the perimeter. We started with their basket of bread, which was delicious. Then shared a calamari appetizer, it was crispy and piping hot. Our table ordered a variety of entrées two pastas, a chicken plate, and a pizza and all of them were excellent... Particularly the pasta and pizza.
Be the first to ReplyWe go here every time we are in Austin.
Great food, great service, great value for the money. Every time we come we are greeted like family by everyone from the get go. Salads, fries with garlic aoli, specials, pizza, desserts are all excellent. We have been here around 6 times and order something different each time and have not gotten a bad meal. Definitely recommend it!!!!!

I'm rarely alone...today I found myself that way. I got some good Christmas stuff done, and I was craving pasta. There's capellini at Asti that I wanted. I could've called people to go, but I was enjoying my vibe. Drove up to Hyde Park and parked at Asti. My friend Christopher Moore and his lovely wife Randi, owners, were there just inside at the bar. Got bellied up to said bar, and asked Chris to pick my wine. Beautiful white to start. Mixed greens with green apple, Parmesan crisp and Gorgonzola first course. He asked me what looked good? Capellini of course..."Meredith, you always have that." He encouraged me to have the salmon. Grilled salmon with a butter leek purée, roasted Texas root vegetables and a lovely, dilly, Italian herb salad. Paired with a gorgeous brunello. Ricotta brule with amaro cherries for dessert. Met a nice lady named Rosemary who lived in the hood and had the mussels special pasta. Great conversation. So cozy and cool. Texas Monthly gave Austin the Bum Steer award this year for being too big for its britches...places like Asti, local neighborhood gems, keep this town who we have been and who we want to be. They just started brunch with a charming patio, to boot. It's good to remember how to be myself, and how to do this town like a local. Great date night with myself@TexasMonthly
Be the first to ReplyASTI started doing a brunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
ASTI started doing a brunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 to 3, so we gave it a try today (Friday) and really enjoyed it: great biscuits (not what I was expecting to find at a trattoria, but yes, great), shakshuka, and the obligatory variation on Eggs Benedict.Prior to today's brunch, we have gone to ASTI for dinner once or twice a month for a long time. Though I admit to the odd "miss" every once in a while (mostly just inconsistent calamari) and the kitchen can be on the slow side at times, we still love it and keep going back.We see a lot of the same faces on staff, so I suspect they treat their team well in addition to having great food. The environment is warm and alive, great for a date night or a small group of friends or out-of-town visitors. I'm not sure if it is completed yet, but they are working on a major improvement to their outside seating, which will be fine buttoned up when the weather is bad and fantastic on a mild evening. You can always roll the dice, but on Friday and Saturday evenings (the nights we usually go), I suggest having reservations (opentable) as the waiting area is not large. This is an established restaurant that has been doing it the right way for years, well worth a try.

First time. Food and service were outstanding. Presentation very nice. I recommend it for the Hyde Park / Duval corridor. Glad I live close by.

Lovely outdoor patio as the Austin temperatures start to cool down. We came here for a birthday and received the absolute best service we've had in years. Our waiter was incredible: he helped us select our wine through taste testing, gave us extra garlic bread for our dip (bread was out of this world), and when one of our orders was a bit cold, he had the kitchen make an entirely new order (not per our request, but the gesture was appreciated). There is so much to choose from on the menu, but a unique option they have is to order 2 pasta entrees in half portions. As someone who was struggling to decide between 2 plates, I was pleasantly surprised I could try both! Food was fantastic. Service exceptional. Local feel in a quiet neighborhood. Can't wait to go back.
