Asador Etxebarri Axpe Reviews
Excellence
This is an exceptional restaurant. The food is as sublime as we expected. We were especially impressed with the way they sourced and produced the ingredients in their dishes. The staff were great, and the best mix of formal service with friendliness. My steak (txuleta) was fantastic. Thank you. We hope to visit again.
Horrible Experience!!
What a joke this place is. The only good thing about this places was the pictures we took outside. Let’s start with the flies all over our food. The server had a huge nose ring that looked something she borrowed from a Bull. They will drop off the food at our table and they would disappear for 30mins mean while flies were all over my glass of water. No1 ever asked how was the food. They brought sardines straight from the can. You would think they would at least sprinkle some scallions to make it look fancy. Every dish was worse than one before. I can go on and on about what a horrible experience this was. We has travels the world and tried many many Michelin star restaurant and this place doesn’t come even close to it.
Vey Poor, If Michilin goes back they will pull their rating.
For all of you wishing their reservation system was better and lamenting not getting in, you didn’t miss anything. The restaurant is 1 hour+ from San Sebastián so, a 2 hour round trip, so you really will want to go there. We have been wanting to go for 2 years and finally got in. I’ll preface to say we’ve been to many Michelin Star Restaurants all over the world. We’ve been to M-Star establishments where wait staff are literally standing by watching your table, jumping to pour another water or comb the tablecloth. The service at this restaurant is beyond poor. The staff is basically slinging food and bottles on the table, no explanation, no interaction, no nothing. The owner may as well have robots but they would be more interesting. Once a bottle of water or wine is ordered it’s Do It Yourself. We are perfectly capable of pouring our own drinks, but for 280 Euros per person for the tasting menu, we expected a higher level of service. The owner should send his staff to Madrid or Miami to learn what 5 star service is. The 12 courses were sometimes great and sometimes plain, like one simple sardine on a plate of oil. Cmon really? The highlight after 10 dishes of unusual seafood was the steak. It was good, with a wood fire smoked flavor, but it wasn’t incredible. We were just in Argentina 2 weeks ago and this steak couldn’t hold a candle to any steak we had in any restaurant there. The owner should travel to Fogo Asado in Buenos Aires if he wants to learn to serve steak. Lastly, and the worse, the restaurant was full of house flies, which is really gross. We spent the entire 4 hour lunch swatting flies off of our food, cups and table. Invest in some fly control! Once the bill came the waiter didn’t ask how we liked it, was everything wonderful, didn’t actually even say thank you. I can only assume the owner is resting on his laurels and probably relaxing in his Caribbean Villa while he rips off his patrons until the word gets out.
Décor magnifique
L'ambiance de ce restaurant est tout simplement magnifique, créant une atmosphère chaleureuse et accueillante.
Excellent food and service
We had a fantastic afternoon at Asador Etxebarri. Our expectations were very high but the 12-course tasting menu was even more delicious than we had anticipated. We started with a drink on the terrace and later proceeded to our table. After complimentary starters the tasting menu dishes with focus on local ingredients. came in one by one, all delicious and grilled to perfection. The service was personal and top notch. Chef/owner Victor invited us to visit him in the kitchen after our meal and signed our copy of the Etxebarri book. A truly memorable culinary experience, we will be back soon!
Amazing meal.
Came to basque country to dine here and it was worth the trip if you can snag a reservation. Restaurant is located in the beautiful and peaceful hills of axpe, bizkaia 40 mins from bilbao. Asador is the mecca and founder of grilled foods. Dave pynt from burnt ends and even eneko trained here at one point of their careers. We went with the tasting and added a lobster. A choice we did not regret. Everything was done masterfully. Don't expect caviar and good here. This place is about the raw ingredients cooked perfectly. No frills, just flames. This is an absolute must and bucket list place to experience once.
Total joke.
Seems they ugnore you on purpose. No food is worth the aggravation of booking a table. This is thenworst place all over the world for making a reservation. They just dont want to acknowledge you.
But you already know this.
insane. hands down the best meal of our lives. This six-hour lunch will go down in our books. Unforgettable to say the least. Everything was unforgettable. Every part of this meal was crafted by someone who loves what they do. After lunch we got to go downstairs and meet chef Arginzoniz, who was as nice as he is a culinary genius. Surely, Etxebarri does not need our review, as it took over a year for us to book it. But this is just to say thank you. Thank you for the best meal of our lives.
All the Stars in the Sky And More!!!
Fine dining with flair but no fuss. From the moment we arrived we knew we were in for a special meal but the staff let the food do most of the talking. The mountain backdrop was stunning from the outdoor patio and paired with a wonderful shot of a hot garlic soup and an Egly Ouriet champagne. Our party of six moved inside and were blown away by the subtle elegance of the dining areas and the thoughtful attention to stemware, linens, art, lighting and spacing. We were not alone but never felt rushed or jammed or crowded. The meal lasted over four hours and we were sad to leave after a quick introduction to the gracious chef. It is crazy that this place only has a single star. Go and only tell your best friends about it. The wine list had terrific Spanish, French and Italian offerings as well as a strong riesling collection. There were also producers and vintages off the list! And the prices were very reasonable. The dishes were simple and spectacular. Prawns, grilled caviar, perfect red snapper and beef to dream about. Plus much more.
Out of this world! A must if you're in the north of Spain.
Prepare to have your taste buds get blown away
