Stellar! I can't compliment this place enough.
The ambiance and decor is gorgeous. The service, attentiveness and knowledge of our server Earl really made our dining experience spectacular. The GM was also very welcoming and kind and his rounds during the night added a special touch, letting us know that we were appreciated and making sure we were well taken care of. But the food....?!?!?! Wow! Everything was delicious! Short rib tortellini from the specials needs to be added to the regular menu. We tried the garlic prawns, hongos & huevo, sole amandine, asparagus with oxtails and the Akaushi and everything was amazing. The flavors complimented each other, but each dish had its own depth. The sole was cooked perfectly. The steak was amazing! Cooked and seasoned to perfection. The complimentary amuse bouche was a little perfect addition.
Be the first to ReplyThe prices do lot justify the amount of food you get.
We ordered the espaรฑola with jamรณn ( skip the jamรณn, $18 1-2 oz you get), shaved root salad, galicianian steak - absolute $145, medium rare) and ibรฉrico rice (delicious but so small amount) equaled out with alcohol was $345. I would go again but sit downstairs in the booth at the bar area. Service on par and ambiance is very romantic. This will be something where you wouldn't go on a regular basis but is good and expensive.

This might be the best restaurant I have ever been to, and I've been to Many! The atmosphere, service, and overall, of course, the food, are amazing! I highly recommend a sherry tasting. The sommelier is amazing, patient, and answered many questions I had about the regions, parings, and more! I highly recommend Asador Bastian!
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I were very excited to try this restaurant.
Regrettably, we were left paying $500 for an average meal (at best) and literally took our daughter to Portillos after and we came home and made smoothies. Let's start with the good. The cocktail and the Iberico jamon were delicious. The gem salad was average. We ordered the sole and Holstein steak. As steak lovers all of us were left uninspired. My daughter and I only had 2 bites and my husband ate as much as he could as not to waste the meal. The steak smelled and tasted gamey. We were told the steaks were a special cut and none tasted like a traditional USDA ribeye or similar (as we even offered to purchase another). We were then told they could make use a burger of similar cut meat to which we declined. The staff should be super transparent that the steak is not a typical flavor or USDA steaks, especially for the price. While we are upset at dropping $500 for a meal most of us didn't eat, we are glad we tried it and know now that we will not be returning.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible experience from start to finish.
Staff was wonderfully attentive and helpful with suggestions.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food.
At at bar. Bar tenders were amazing and knowledgeable. Shout out to Nelson. Best bartender in Chicago!
Be the first to ReplyGame here solely for the cocktail.
The drink was stiff to say the least & I have a pretty high tolerance for alcohol. It also had good balance as no flavor outshined the other but it honestly didn't reflect a $30 cocktail. Staff was friendly & engaged. Patrons were dressed down & were loud/boisterous. I'm slightly curious to return for dinner but I'm in no rush.
Be the first to ReplyThe combination of the extraordinary food, magnificent
The combination of the extraordinary food, magnificent service, and stunning ambiance made this arguably the best dining experience of my life. I would specifically ask to sit at one of the booths in the bar, the dining room is beautiful but the bar booths offer a much more intimate experience. We had Yousof as our server and he was amazing! We had never been to a Spanish restaurant so we were unfamiliar with most the dishes and wines. We really had to rely on Yousof's explanation and his recommendations and let me tell you- he was spot on with everything! We were blown away by every dish and the wine pairings were perfect, Yousof even brought us a couple samples of different Spanish style wines that we had never tried before. For food we ordered the tortilla espanola with jamon (don't skip out on adding the jamon, it was well worth it!), garlic prawns, braised beef cheek tortellini, galaciana steak, and tallow fried potatoes. It felt like after each course came out we had a new favorite! Truly have 0 complaints, we will 100% be back and make sure to ask for Yousof! We really felt like he made the experience so much more enjoyable
Be the first to ReplyFirst this restaurant was intimate and the ambiance was
First this restaurant was intimate and the ambiance was well suited for an anniversary dinner or special occasion. So let me start with the good. The food was excellent. The carpaccio was light and delicious with just the right amount of seasoning to put it over the top. The tortilla espaรฑola was not what I expected which is fine since of course the chef would provide his own flair to the dish. However, having traveled extensively through Spain I was disappointed with this dish. Think runny egg not cooked egg or cold dish but rather a warm egg and potato dish. I would comment it was not what I expected. Our steak was the 100% akaushi (wagyu steak). It absolutely melted in your mouth but seriously steak knives were dull! I have had wagyu and yes it was buttery and amazing but we had the hardest time slicing with these knives. Definitely not what I expect from a chophouse. Here is where I ask is this a Chophouse or just a trendy Spanish restaurant? So being a lifelong Chicagoan the word Chophouse means something as there are many Steak restaurants to choose from and service is impeccable and it's about the Steak . This is where my review turns to service and it was a Saturday so while I understand slow I don't understand inconsistent. It took our waiter a while before he showed up at our table to introduce himself and provide menus. He also never gave us the drink menu which we learned later did exist but we didn't think to ask. I guess that is our fault but we don't often need to ask for menus of any sort and since clearly liquor is always a cash cow. We were seated and probably 10 minutes later a 4 top was seated to the left of us. Their server came over right away got their drinks and asked them if he could explain the menu all before our waiter even came back to take our order and explain the menu so we watched which really made our service feel mediocre. He returned with drinks for them and a steak board that highlights the various steaks and preparation etc. He explained everything to them and was very on top of his table in a good way. Well not for us. So our waiter acknowledged we were there celebrating our anniversary but sadly that was all he ever said and we never felt like we got even consistent service comparatively and it was hard not to notice. There was nothing done to acknowledge our special occasion or anything. We basically waited and just ordered drinks we wanted and upon our waiter's return we thought okay we have now had menus a while he may stop and explain some things but nope. We basically had to ask if he could explain portion sizes etc since steaks here are listed by pound and not ounces which is customary. He never brought out the steak tray and rushed through the explanation. It just felt like he only stopped by to get things moving not to provide any help or suggestions. Eventually even a newly seated table to the right of us also had to ask him to provide an explanation and advice on the menu. In the end we had empty drinks but he never noticed, thank gosh we ordered our wine with our dinner since we were not sure how often he would come back. We sat a while after we finished our meal and based on his timing we opted to skip dessert. So we enjoyed the meal and packed up and left to have dessert and drinks somewhere else. All this to say consistency matters and if you are a steak restaurant then yes show the steak board and try to have staff provide consistent service since we had wished for the waiter that was taking care of the 4-top and felt like our letting the restaurant know it was our anniversary really didn't matter. We enjoyed the meal but felt our inconsistent service lead to a less enjoyable anniversary meal.
Be the first to ReplyMy coworkers and I had a dinner here.
From the outside, you would never find this restaurant unless you knew it was here. No signage beside the small sign in front of the door and the door looks like an entrance to a persons nice home. When you walk in, it's got a very nice decor. you walk upstairs into the upscale restaurant. The service is top-notch, and the food was excellent. Everything was so tasty and made just right. They changed the plating and the utensils to make sure everything was clean after every course. We had a seven course meal with dessert steak shrimp, fish, salad, sardines, caviar, cheesecake dessert, etc. We also had recommended bottles of wine from the Somalia. We kept it off with espresso martinis. Everything was better than expected. We spent about $250 per person which was worth the experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe Basque know how to cook and eat and this place
The Basque know how to cook and eat and this place definitely lives up to that tradition. The restaurant is cozy and warm, the service is spot on. The food? Wow. The star of the show is the steak. They serve "aged on the hoof" beef sourced from boutique ranches. The meat is cooked over coal fire and the result is truly one of the best steaks I've ever had. In this steak town, that's saying a lot!
