My wife and I attended the restaurant on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is not in the best location (dual carriage way out of the main town) and in the room we were seated in (I assume the main room downstairs) it is a very boring room with no view in what seems a throw back to 1980s dining. The tables felt very close together, to the point that I had already heard the dishes described twice before we reached the same course on the tasting menu. I felt sorry for the poor couple on the centre of the room as they had someone pass them every minute of their meal. I have posted a picture of the room for reference (when empty at the end of the evening). Also note, the carpets were not clean / looked slightly grubby at the edges. However, location is not everything and we were still hoping for an amazing food experience. We were seated and given two menus. To say they were not placed on the table with any love is not an exaggeration. What is disappointing is (i) they were photocopies and (ii) the explanation went like this…. here is the tasting menu and here is the tasting menu with wine. If you have the one with wine ($411 euros per head) then you cannot choose between the courses (unlike the tasting menu where there was an option for pigeon or lamb on one of the courses). But that was it! We looked at each other like OMG we have come to this supposed amazing restaurant and been given basically have this or have this. if you did not want us there, then do not accept the booking (and our money!). Anyway, we were confident that the food would make it all worthwhile. We have eaten and numerous one and two starred restaurants, but never a three. Sadly this was perhaps our second worst meal of any Michelin starred restaurant we have ever eaten. I still would not say we have eaten in a three and I am surprised it has more than one, compared to others we have eaten at. The pre courses were well presented and were quite tasty, although nothing to blow the mind / wow you innovation wise. For the main courses, I have added pictures, but the pictures look better than the taste sadly. For the unclothed prawn we were instructed that we could eat the tail and also suck the head of the prawn as part of the introduction to the dish. I would advise against this. The tail tasted exactly as you expect, of nothing; with your mouth filled with sharp unpleasant thin shell. The head of the prawn was tasteless and also not a nice experience. The Marbled Egg course lacked taste and was at a temperature that felt like it had been sitting for too long. The Monkfish course was enjoyable. I am not a fan of monkfish normally, but this was very well prepared with great taste The lamb course was OK, but given it is a 3-star restaurant, I would have expected something maybe with a greater depth of flavour; or maybe I am expecting too much? The two dessert courses were pleasant (aside from the avocado ice cream which was grainy and did not have a nice taste - but I accept that this is a perhaps a personal taste issue – even though I love avocados normally). However, again, do I expect too much, but these deserts were pretty safe and boring / had no wow factor at all. After desserts there were two petit fours each, served on a very plastic looking branch (it reminded me of my sons Playmobile cave man set). Overall, as you can probably tell the meal was hugely disappointing. Now were we unlucky? I would like to think so, but I just cannot see it. If I think through the key aspects of our evening: • The setting is not very nice at all • The service, whilst pleasant, started off very badly • The food was actually unpleasant at times and did not have any of the wow factor that I have seen in even 1 star places We were so excited to be going to our first 3 star restaurant and now we feel so deflated. If this is truly a three star restaurant then the judges should visit places many of the one and two star restaurants are regrade them, as their taste, innovation and all over experience are far superior.
