Love this place.
Always try making a reservation as the wait here can get quite long. Tsurhashi is just a tad bit cheaper but I have to give to Anjin for the quality. We came here actually with no reservation upon doors first opening but there was already a long list of reservations so we couldn't be seated at first until there was a no show so they seated us. We ordered prime boneless short rib, pork cheek, beef tongue, rib eye. Everything was delicious and no complaints on the food. Only thing I would say is don't let your server pour your beer! Our server didn't know how to pour beer and never tilted the cup so when she poured our beer, half of it was foam, which was disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyI got chased out asking why my tip was $3 short of 20%.
I would come spend that same amount at least 2 times a week! And they acknowledged saying i know your a regular but regulars usually tip more. Being a business owner myself i would be speechless knowing my employees were rejecting business due to a tip they expect!.If they don't make enough maybe they should talk to the boss or find another career! My order came out to $272 with only 2 people . And just 2 of the plates were the highest priced meats on the list . If i didn't order those meats my bill would of been $110 . I Dnt think its fair they are basing it off the total and then basically harassing people based on a tip .
Be the first to Replyprice: $$$ service: 4/5 - beef tongue (7/10) - beef
price: $$$ service: 4/5 - beef tongue (7/10) - beef carpaccio (8.5/10) - marbled prime boneless short rib (9/10) - prime boneless short rib (6/10) went here for a birthday and spent around $90 including tax and tip for 4 meats and a bowl of rice. overall very intimate and small. be prepared to wait 2-4hrs depending on the day and time, we were quoted around 1.5-2hrs but ended up getting called around 1hr due to canceled reservations. i enjoyed every meat beside the prime short rib which i thought was a bit tough. def good to try out!!

It took me so long to finally dine here since I've always heard about the long wait times. Finally made it here on a weekday 15 minutes before opening. Even though we were the first ones there, I didn't realize there was a sign up sheet as parties were getting seated before we did when they opened at 5pm. So lesson learned, make sure you sign in when you arrive. Once seated, they took orders and brought food out very quickly. The two of us ordered the #2 Ribeye ($17.95), #4 Marbled Prime Boneless Shortrib ($19.95), Pork Belly ($9.50), #30 Beef Carpaccio ($9.95), and #43 Seasoned Mix Vegetable and Ground Chicken on Rice in Hot Stone Pot with Soup ($12.00). To start off, the carpaccio is a must. It was so thinly-cut and easy to eat with the dressing on top that gave it some good flavor. The rice was delicious too where they split it into two portions for us before serving. Now onto the meats which were all delicious in their own ways. The ribeye was super buttery but the marinade in the shortrib made it so good that you didn't need any sauce --both great in its own ways, wish they could be combined. The pork belly wasn't anything special though, not bad nor good. I'd say stick to the beef options here. The food is delicious, but definitely on the pricey end. It's a nice spot for Japanese BBQ for a special occasion though. Definitely come early to avoid the wait times.

My family dined at Anjin for my brother's birthday and we enjoyed it. The service was great as the staff came by frequently to check on us and ask if we needed anything else. Sitting inside the restaurant also was comfortable and pleasant. I wished the short rib soup had a little more flavor but it grew on me the more I ate it and it felt nice to eat on a cold day. We definitely enjoyed the #4, #8, wagyu, and Kobe meats, which were high quality. The homemade kimchi and kimchi cucumbers were also great. At the end, the staff came out with a complimentary dessert and sang happy birthday for my brother, which was fun. Would recommend!

The line is always long, they will charge you higher price if you pay credit cards and one of the manager the Japanese guy is giving us rude service no smile only ask for tips
Be the first to ReplyThe wait times are the only reason I'm -1 from this review.
It's a really small restaurant but it does not affect my opinion on the food. Every single dish that came out was absolutely delicious. The crispy rice bowl was crunchy and packed with veggies. The kimchi cold noodles were nicely cold and I loved the crunch cucumbers. The service here is alright. Nothing special. I don't remember what meats we got but the one that stood out to me the most was the beef tongue which was a nice chewy texture, especially dipped in the lemon juice. It's a bit pricey but they know the cost of their meats. I wouldn't come back on a busy weekend though

Was here for a friends bday last night during pretty heavy downpour. A group came a bit earlier as we were told that the wait would be notoriously long, so we anticipated to stop by a local coffee shop to pass the time. To our surprise, within 5-10 mins from the restaurant we were told our seats were ready, and off to the races we went. Boasting A5 Wagyu and lots of other marbled/assorted meats, we started off our order with the beef carpaccio which was sliced incredibly thin and had a great hint of sweetness from the mayo. We proceeded to also order the sliced short rib, beef tongue, beef tartare, pork belly and some veggies which were great wrapped with all the meats and grilled. I especially enjoyed the two selections of dipping sauce, one being a light/sweet soy sauce and the other, a miso based garlic soy sauce that was my go-to of the night. Although I couldn't get a photo in time, the A5 was incredible that we ordered it multiple times.. totally worth it for a night like this! The night ended with a surprise happy birthday celebration for my friend's 30th and even the nice almond tofu and red bean vanilla ice cream desserts that we shared were pleasant and not terribly too sweet. Shout out to the wait staff who were the stars of the night. Not once did I have to ask for a refill of my hot tea since it was being filled up every time another meat plate was dropped off. This was 100% worth the hype and I look forward to bringing my wife next time!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service.
Small but cozy and the staff are great. Marbled short rib is my favorite
Be the first to ReplyCame w my boyfriend right at opening (5pm) and the waitlist
Came w my boyfriend right at opening (5pm) and the waitlist was longgg (about 7 parties ahead of us) but the hostess was so nice, since the other parties were either not there or reserved, he let us sit down if we could be done within 1 1/2hrs. Heckkk yea we can :9 Love this place bc of the great quality meats!! A must order for me is the marinated raw beef with egg yolk :3 we got sake and beer and they poured it for us which we appreciate but they did spill a little so we told them well pour it ourselves when we ordered another beer. The price went up a bit but that's not a problem bc they work super hard. And a complimentary hot tea to end the meal is nice! They gave us a time frame but never made us feel rushed at all, and we did finish within an hour ;)
Be the first to ReplyThe price went up since last time I went.
Quality is still amazing and service is ok. Go before opening time to put your name down. Went for a bday and the total cost was 400

Sorry to say the quality of meat has gone downhill and price has skyrocketed. Bowl of white rice is $3! Still great service but will not be my go-to option anymore.
Be the first to ReplyYou will wait 2 hours minimum no matter what.
.. even if you have reservations. Ventilation is not as good for a bbq place so just be prepared to smell like smoke. We tried everything on the menu one by one. House salad comes with seaweed with ponzu sauce, it's big enough to share for 4+ people. The steak tartar was fresh but too salty for me, trio kimchi side dish lacked in flavor. I would come back here just for the freshness of the meat.
Be the first to ReplyThe Yelp restaurant tips that recommend putting your name
The Yelp restaurant tips that recommend putting your name on the waitlist at 4pm, for their 5pm opening time were NOT joking. I arrived at the restaurant around 4:08pm on Sunday and I was already the 10th or 11th party on their waitlist. When they opened at 5pm, my party was thankfully seated in the first wave! The grill in the table is on the smaller side, but the cuts of meat are on the thinner side so it doesn't take too long for the protein to cook. My personal favorites were the beef tongue, pork cheek, and pork belly which were all salted. We also got the marbled prime boneless short rib, rib eye, prime outer skirt, and vegetable mix plate. These were all incredibly tender and marinated with a soy sauce base. Each order of protein comes with a random vegetable you can grill (onion, corn, bell pepper, etc.) so ordering the vegetable mix plate may not be necessary for your party. Each order is not excessively large, so you can try a lot of different cuts or order multiple orders of the same cut. For sides, we got the seaweed cucumber salad and egg soup. The salad is light, refreshing and on the large side as we were able to share it among a group of 4. The egg soup is a mild, clear broth. This was my first time dining here and I see why everyone raves so much about the quality of the meat here! I really enjoyed the food and my experience. Sometimes at bbq restaurants, it can be difficult to get the servers' attention but the service here was super quick to put in and bring our orders. They were also readily available when asking for grill changes. I'm embarrassed to say that I did not take very many pictures of this meal because I was starving, but I hope this review can make up for it!

The wait here is so long, make sure to come an hour in advance to put your name down on the waiting list. Service is fast and friendly. Food is kinda expensive but meat is good quality. Nice reward for once in a while. Will def be back.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is always good.
Yes it is little costly but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Very high quality meat and excellent service. The A5 Waygu from Japan tastes like it is butter infused It can be a wait to get a table. My suggestion is to show up hour before they open to get your name on the list. Have never been disappointed. It is a small place. Seats about 40-50 total. And service is great
Be the first to ReplyFood is delicious but the wait time can be over an hour
Food is delicious but the wait time can be over an hour long. The short rib soup and spicy cold noodle are worth trying along with the grill meats. We got a frozen orange dessert a while back and it was good but not something we order at the end of every meal.
Be the first to ReplyGot here at 7pm on a Saturday evening to put our name down
Got here at 7pm on a Saturday evening to put our name down on the waitlist and the host told us to expect a 3-4 hour wait for a party of two. Despite the long wait, I got a call around 9pm telling us our table is ready. We were nowhere near the restaurant but the host told me to just check in when we arrive and they'll give us the next table available. We ordered the Salted Tongue, Prime Boneless Short Rib, and the Marbled Prime Rib Eye and they were so tender and juicy. The Salted Tongue comes with lemon juice on the side and it just enhanced the flavor of the meat! Overall I was impressed with the food and service as everything came out quickly even though they were very busy. It is mainly booth seating indoors, but it surprisingly felt private despite how crowded the restaurant was. They also gave complimentary hot green tea at the end of our meal and it was a nice palate cleanser after eating such flavorful meats.

Worth the effort of getting there BEFORE they open to get on the list. We usually go for birthdays and specialty events.

My No1 go to Japanese BBQ place in OC, they don't take reservation is the only thing I have issue with ...
Be the first to ReplyMeat quality was good, and meat came out quickly.
Waiting time was long, but it's worth it.
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite late night spot to have some really yummy
My favorite late night spot to have some really yummy Japanese bbq. I always get the short-rib and ribeye. (#4 & #2). It never disappoints! I love that you cook everything on the grill at the table. The dipping sauce.....my goodness it's so good I can swim in it. If you've never tried the crispy rice that comes in the hot stone. The name slips my mind but it's for sure a must try and it's great for sharing if you don't feel like white rice. It has such a good flavor and has some veggies. Love love love this place.
Be the first to Replyskip the soups and veggies.
Load up on numbers 1-5. You can really taste the marbling of the meat by the way it melts in your mouth. Overall, food was excellent, meat cooked fast, service was very good, wait was long (one hour on this Friday night) but worth it. I think I prefer jbbq over kbbq now...
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed.
I can understand the price has gone higher due to inflation and many factors, but the food quality shouldn't have been worse. The Kobe beef quality is not good and inconsistent, it also had some sour aftertaste from the meat quality, not the sauce. Maybe the blood draining process gone wrong or something else, it's not that they were not fresh, but more like the process was not done right. The special #4 was noticeably thinner, and not as marble compared with our previous visits. The thinner version is by far not as tender and juicy. It's so disappointed that we just ate a little and went to somewhere else for the 2nd round. We will not be back for a while.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing self cooked steak.
The Kobe beef is incredible. It's a little expensive and the sides are so so but the meat is so tasty I have to give 5 stars.
