Expensive averageness
We turned up without a reservation . Inside and decor is lovely. Staff attentive but miserable. Food cooked well enough but not due the price. My daughter and I had rib eye and both expected something better than what we got. I had fries with mine and they charged extra $12 for salad which was extreme as the rib eye was overpriced at $59 Would never return and felt a bit miffed at the 20% undeserved tip they stuck on my bill

PLZ NOTE: their rooftop is under construction so ALL DINING IS DONE INSIDE.
Upon booking, there was a notice that vax card will be checked upon entering, NO SUCH THING WAS DONE. I even heard a few patrons talking abt it as well. NONE OF THEIR EMPLOYEES HAD MASKS ON. Basically it was a โyou can wear it if you wantโ situation.
We went on valentines weekend 2/12 and they were โoverbookedโ which is what I was told by the check in girl. They asked us to go and wait at the bar but we declined due to the fact that she said โit was extremely crowded up thereโ.
When we finally got to sit, it was extremely crowded in the seating area as well.
THEY ALSO NEED NEW UTENSILS. One of the dish they brought me was cracked and their knives and forks; they can afford to get new ones.
PROS: food was plentiful and some dishes were good. We ate from the a la carte menu.
I had the fried calamari for my app(it was well prepared but tasteless); my date had their The Buger, which was huge and tasty, my main I had the Panino Astice. It was a very yummy and the lobster was plentiful and the sauce it came with; delish.
They had a cute little set up for Valentineโs Day as well.
Overall I rated a 3 because there was not much CV-19 protocol being followed. Oh and their bathroom IS A LITTLE GROSS. I went to go use it and there was no tissue.
pessimo servizio clienti
Ampia in Italian means open space, lots of space, wide (you get the point). The name is pretty accurate for this place as it is...its mostly empty
This place has potential, however the customer service at the bar is horrible and the workers are a joke. Met my friend here (she arrived 30 min before I did), she sat at the bar and no one asked her if she needed/wanted a drink, 15 min later she asked the guy for a drink and he took his sweet time.
When I got there and sat at the bar there were 3 guys at the bar, you would think it would dawn on one of them to offer a c-u-s-t-o-m-e-r a drink. Nope, sat there 10 min and I was never offered one.
Finally, told my friend let's leave and it took them 20 min to get the check, the hostess had to hustle them to get us the check. The hostess was very nice and friendly and she tried to get us to stay and wake up the zombies that are behind the bar, but by then I had lost my patience and was done. Place is cute, but would be cuter if the service was efficient. BTW, the place was empty as you will see on the pics. SMH!
Don't bother here, there are better places in a two block radius to try right on Pearl Street, where the ambiance is better, better drinks and service. Also check out the tiny drink my friend got (after sitting around waiting 15 minutes waiting to served. This tiny thing was $20).
Rooftop dining
We dined here for our anniversary and had made a reservation to eat inside given the weather forecast (hot, humid). But apparently the indoor dining room was closed so we ate outside on the rooftop. Views of neighboring buildings were nice if unexceptional.
I started with a very run of the mill Caesar salad while my wife had the lobter bisque which was very good.
We both had pasta dishes for our entrees which were also very good.
One observation, it seems Ampia is more intent in being a hip spot rather than focussing on being an exceptional dining spot.
Amazing Atmosphere & Decor but eat anywhere else
If you want anything more than an expensive place to enjoy beautiful atmosphere, eat literally anywhere else. First we were sat in a little greenhouse with no light- it had a cute wooden structure over it and it was dark, which was ok for a while, we pretended it was romantic. After 25 mins with no waiter, my hub got up to see what was going on and realized we had been locked in from the outside by a latch- odd. We first order the $20.00 Burrata which was literally a piece of fresh Mozz- not really a burrata, in the middle of the plate with 4 pcs of Proscuitto around it. No dressing, nothing- the most plain & expensive burrata Ive ever had. Now, as a Gnoccheria, you'd think the Gnocci was amazing, but it was mediocre. I had the Bolognese- decent flavor, super oily and way more meat than pasta. Also, my $19.00 Lady Verde drink was cheap gin awful- but that was taken off the bill. Also, there was aggressive techno music pumping so conversation was hard. So while this place is amazingly creative, and has a fantastic ambiance inside and out- eat anywhere else.
Be the first to ReplyRooftop dining in yurts, in February!
Reservations are honored, the yurts on the roof are cozy and warm, with small personal heater at your feet.
Food: given that it is February, we think the kitchen should preheat the plates before putting food on them so that it stays warmer longer after being served.
Eggplant parm was just OK, a Caesar salad in February won't be as green as July, and they bill themselves as a "gnoccheria" so you might think you can't go wrong but we would suggest that the gnocchi be a little more airy and less heavy. That said, the amount of lobster in the dish compensated.
Best dish we ordered was the butternut squash ravioli....al dente and tasty!
Wines by the glass featured delicious Italian whites and reds.
Trendy rooftop restaurant
Trendy rooftop restaurant in the Financial District. Lovely use of space. Relaxed vibe. Good food and cocktails. Great service.
