It is what it is.
This place is all about being an exotic relic of the past. And it does that well. The menu is simple, but the food is well-prepared. The service is friendly and unassuming. I love the bar, which serves simple beers as well as great traditional cocktails, but that may be the lowlife in me speaking. I highly recommend this place. If you have tolerance only for urban glitz and glamor, it's not for you. But if you like interesting and unique places, it's perfect. You won't regret or forget going!
Be the first to ReplyOld School Bar Food.
This place is " A Must" if you find yourself in the area. Great History in the town.
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately just not what it used to be .
Peanut butter & jelly no longer on the bar but available by request. (Not the owners decision it's per the State Dept. Public Health). The steak sandwich everyone went for no longer on the menu, replaced by a hamburger. Steak still available but check prices! My "fully loaded potato skins" were 3 half potatoes with sour cream on top...$14 . Very pleasant bartender, still an interesting place to stop for a beer. Four people at the bar mid-day Saturday, no one else tempted by the $14 skins...Glad I visited years ago, not so much now
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to eat.
Hamburgers are off the hook very nice place order a cheeseburger with sliced French bread grilled it's just amazing.
Be the first to Reply2 stars for the kind bartender.
My lunch was a flavorless burger that took 45 minutes to be served. I like Al's for the old time divey feel but I guess it ends there. I wouldn't go back for the food and since I don't drink I see no reason to return.

Pretty good food and service as well, they encourage you to order a drink at the bar before you grab a table and order your food!
Be the first to ReplyWe are locals and probably eat there several times a month.
Food has really improved over the past few months, hillbilly chili is really good. You won't leave hungry
Be the first to ReplyWe enjoyed our dinner sitting at the bar.
What a colorful place, service is great. The bartender was really nice too!

Had a fantastic experience at Al the Wops! The eclectic ambiance exudes nostalgia, creating a unique atmosphere. Enjoyed a delightful combo of iced tea and a superb passionfruit margarita. Opted for the New York steak with mashed potatoes, upgraded with white wine mushrooms, and a side salad with ranch. Service was prompt, and the overall dining experience was tasty and satisfying.
Be the first to ReplyGreat little hidden gem.
Highly recommend it if you're driving through Walnut Grove/Locke. Kevin, cooked up some great food. The burger was perfect , Kevin's Special was amazing. Our friend ordered the Large Wedge Salad with Steak and the steak was perfectly cooked. Keri was our server and she was amazing, friendly, knows the menu and our drinks were never empty. We will definitely be back.

Been going there for about 25 years, completely different experience, poor quality, expensive and doesn't deliver the quality it was known for

If your looking for a fancy place to take a date, this is not the place. If your looking for a Delta dive bar experience with good food, Al's is the place. Don't expect white table cloths and fancy dishes. Your walking into a local iconic Delta bar / restaurant, (Not many of these left now days) the floors are sagging and lean to one side, the tables are mismatched and wobbly. You enter into the front through the bar and the dining room is in the back area, you grab a seat where you want to sit (you can also eat at the bar). At the back of the dining area is a white board that will have the specials written in red, and below that will be what they are out of written in black. A server will bring you a menu and get your drinks for you. My wife and I split the 16 Oz Big Old Steak dinner with fries and a side salad, ask for the Al's bread with peanut butter, trust me on this one. Steak and peanut butter are amazing together. The food came out pretty fast considering it was a Saturday evening, but it wasn't that busy and we were early. These old Delta places have very small kitchens and if places are busy it can be a wait for your food, so sit back and enjoy the Delta experience. We ordered our steak medium rare and it came out perfectly cooked with hot fries and salad with a homemade ranch dressing. We split the dinner and had a beer apiece and got out for $60 including tip, that decent for a good steak. If you get the chance, sit at the bar and strike up a conversation with one of the locals, they will tell you amazing stories of life along the Delta back in the day, and it's not all B.S. Buy them a beer and you'll have a friend for the evening.

I had an event out in Walnut Grove and needed a spot to watch the Niner game. We found this little hole in the wall and it was such a great day... Except my Niners lost. UGG. Docker, the bartender was super fun it was really laid-back atmosphere. There were lots of TVs and lots of cheering. They were tables in back for families and the food was amazing. Very well priced. We had fish and chips and wings. All great. This is a tiny little hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere but it's awesome. Go check them out.

Oh my gosh!! It's taken us about a year and a half to get here after learning about it. So sorry we waited so long. We had the best time. It was so unique and fun. People just come in constantly. We had the strange and famous "peppers and peanut butter"and it was surprisingly tasty. Can't wait to go back!!!Suzanne was great

Be the first to ReplyGreat fish & chips.
Steak overpriced, not tender, not cooked to my request and not very flavorful. I would go back again for the fish & chips and their hot buttered rum.

I was introduced to Al's last year when my then boyfriend-now husband took me down to the Delta-so he could share with me his stomping grounds-I love a good local joint & when I walked in the door - knew this was going to be it.So let's look at the BIG picture-Food - outstanding. Some righteous gun on the menu! They are known for their steaks - and for good reason, delicious. New items on the menu, risotto - really good. The Cubano sandwich, super fun! Oh and then there are some weeknight specials - ranging from Taco's to Shepherds Pie.Drinks - Full Bar! As you can see this is a stunning Lemon Drop martini - they have local wines & ciders -Recommend-and I go back every time I go down & when I am leaving. The cute town of Lock is full of local history as well.

Be the first to Replyi should have more to say about al's but in this rare case
i should have more to say about al's but in this rare case my words just don't do it justice. best put it this way: indescribably essential. not the experience itself but that having a place like al's in today's world is not only unusual but that knowing its likes still exist simply must be, for a certain balance of the cumulative human spirit to survive if only in the mind. to end it here if you want the quick and easy, the steak dinner on sunday night is probably the key experience, but only if you can tolerate the marauding bikers. otherwise, don't go then. also don't just come for the steak, buy the t-shirt and wear it if you have balls. i recently treated to dinner here a jewish friend from ny's upper east side, bought him the short-sleeve version, simple elegantly black and understated don't you agree? we were of course quite drunk at the time. he swore on his mother's grave, not exactly so but in whatever way it is that jews do to assure something, then and there to wear it once back home and strolling down fifth some afternoon, and very soon. so far he reports not having done so as yet. pigs will fly first. try it yourself, but maybe begin with dinner on a tuesday.
Be the first to ReplyBest place i ever been to.
There are 26 letters in the alphabet. If I had to pick one, it would be an A+.

We enjoyed the steak and fried chicken. They have a great bar as well!

$7.50 for a drink that's not even top shelf liquor at a dive bar seems a little excessive. Also if you want salad and spaghetti it's now a $10.00 extra charge. Al's was a fun place that I enjoyed taking out of town friends too. No longer in my budget.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a cool, historic biker bar.
This place is what helped build the character of America. Lots of history and artifacts in the tiny town. Food was good, a little disappointed as they had no peppers (their signature side is peppers and peanut butter), no eggs (fried egg burger) and no avocado, bummer but the Americana vibe makes up for it. Plenty of beer and liquor options to keep you hydrated here, bartender was great! Don't pass this place up if you're passing by the area!
Be the first to ReplyThis is my favorite place to go for Lunch or dinner.
Jessica the manager and her team do an outstanding job of treating us like friends, not like customers. If I'm having one of those bad days or weeks, Jessica always brings a smile to our face. They have a nice easy selection of food from something simple like a grilled chesse(which is great) or you can go all in and get the steak which is cooked perfectly!!If you want to get out of town and enjoy yourself, Al's is the place to go!!
