Almyra Restaurant Philadelphia Reviews from The Last Year
Ambiance and service top tier.
The food ended on a high note. Apps were so so. But the sea bass entree and the dessert were enough that I would go back just for that!
This is one of the new hot spots of philly and i can see
This is one of the new hot spots of philly and i can see why! The vibe and ambience is very meditarranean modern vibes but I wasn't loving the music, i felt like i was in a club and made it feel very hectic. we started with a cocktail that had aloe in it, it was way too sour for me and not enough aloe, not a fan. i then got the tuna crispy rice and the octopus. the crispy rice was okay, i've definitely had better and the rice was way too gummy and got stuck on my teeth. it wasn't "melt in your mouth" like i'm used to. the octopus though was DELICIOUS definitely my favorite dish of the night we then got the lobster pasta and the lavraki. both were good! the lobster pasta had a decent amount of lobster in it and the lavraki was delicious but i wish it came with rice or something starchy bc just the side of horta wasn't doing it for me. we the finished the meal with the chocolate torte and a scoop of the pistachio gelato all in all, this place was good but i wasn't raving about it. it was a decent meal for the price and the indoor decor and vibes were nice. i'm not dying to go back and try something but maybe i just didn't get their star dishes! 3.85/5
Recently visited Almyra on a Tuesday evening and everything
Recently visited Almyra on a Tuesday evening and everything was great! The restaurant is GORGEOUS, service was prompt, and the food was a 10/10. Will definitely visit again to try more things!
Great ambiance, staff was okay, food was just okay.
No wow factor. The appetizers and cocktails were good, but the main dishes were just okay. There was a hard piece of plastic in our food which had to be sent back (you would have thought our meal would have been complimentary, but it was not)
The hottest new restaurant in Philly didn't disappoint.
The spreads are amazing, and I swear they had the best spanakopita I have ever had. It's a great choice for happy hour if you're looking for an upscale spot. The main menu is definitely higher in price but everything looks delicious and I look forward to trying more. At the bar they were very attentive and ensured we were well taken care of. The restaurant is beautiful inside, it is a bit loud though with music and talking. All in all it's a great spot for a fun upscale happy hour.
This place is always packed - and I totally see why.
It's not just an "instagram-able" place, but they have a great selection of food and cocktails. This is one of my favorite happy hour spot in the city as well. I love Greek food and I was so happy to see that they have the fava bean dip, which is not easy to find. Everything tasted sooo good! We didn't order anything from the dinner menu but would love to come back next time for dinner. Definitely make a reservation if you want to check out this place or come early! It does fill up pretty quick especially if you're here for happy hour.
Tried Almyra for a Friday happy hour.
Really nice atmosphere. Good music, nice selection of food and drinks. Had the special cocktail which was a really nice gin cocktail made with crushed grapes. Nice! As the bartender said, "It's crushable." Also tried their three item mezzo platter for which I selected a smoked eggplant (think babagaoush), a beet spread and a edamame hummus. All sooo good! Nice chatting with some new friends at the bar. Check out @stufftodoinphilly on insta. Great find. Check it out!!!
Excellent ambience.
Attentive and knowledgeable servers. Food came out fast. Sides came out a couple of minutes ahead of mains, which was a bit odd. But everything was very tasty and well prepared. Duo Tartare was excellent. Lamb chops also very good. A little over priced.
We came to Almyra for a girls night out.
My friend lives in Philly and has a pulse on the best restaurants, old and new. Almyra was no exception to the caliber of places she takes us to when we visit. There is a dress code here, and honestly it was nice to have a little pressure to dress nice. We all lead busy lives and have gotten kind of comfortable with dressing comfortable when we get together. Getting ready for Almyra felt like an event and was very reminiscent of when we would go out in our early 20s. The ambiance is so pretty and photo-worthy, a lot of pink and white flowers billowing out up and down the restaurant. The food... ohh the food. So many of the appetizers were calling out to us from the menu and it was hard to narrow down the selection. Ultimately we chose all 5 spreads, (whipped feta, smoked eggplant, Santorini fava, beet, edamame hummus) which came with pita bread and spiced rice crackers, Almyra chips (zucchini and eggplant chips with tzatziki), Saganaki (their famous flaming cheese), and spanakopita manti. The spreads were out of this world, so flavorful and garnished with the perfect compliment to the flavors of each spread. The spiced rice crackers were a pleasant surprise. The Almyra chips are ultra thin slices of eggplant and zucchini, battered and fried and simple and delicious. The Saganaki came with a little show, a waitress brought it to the table, poured the ouzo-honey emulsion on top and set it aflame! It was like (or was?) halloumi cut with the citrusy honey, so good and crisp! Last but not least- the spanakopita manti instead of the traditional phyllo triangles these were in little bit sized purse-shaped wontons, very delicious and gone too soon! The appetizers were my favorite portion of the meal. For our meal, my one friend and I were both interested in the filet mignon & chicken kebabs. We decided to get one of each and share along with a side of the feta mashed potatoes. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and was tender but the chimichurri wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped it would be. The chicken kebab was my least favorite of the meal, the flavor tasted more citrus than apricot and the texture of the meat was very soft which is definitely a preference thing, nothing wrong with it, but I prefer the meat to be a bit firmer than it was. Our feta mashed potatoes didn't taste like feta at all which was disappointing because the fries sounded amazing, and I wish we would have gotten them instead. I will say the mashed potatoes were the PERFECT consistency, so though they didn't taste like feta, they did deliver on all other accounts!! For dessert we selected the cheesecake, which was very different from Italian or American cheesecake; it had a sponge cake on the bottom, topped with a yogurt based cheese mixture and on top of that "birds nest" phyllo- it was absolutely delicious! We also had baklava (how can you not??) and it was shaped into little rolls making the experience very different from traditional baklava but no less delicious. We had a great time and left happily full!
Once you step into Almyra it feels like you're transported
Once you step into Almyra it feels like you're transported to Greece. The ambiance is absolutely breathtaking. I ordered the moura cocktail and it came w a mini bottle of champagne. The drink was delicious & CUTE , it felt like I was drinking 2 cocktails mixed in one (the drink was huge and I was set with that all night). We started off w plenty of appetizers and honestly I got stuffed from it that I barely ate my entree. For appetizers we ordered the tuna crudo, crispy rice, duo tartare, crispy potatoes & caviar, shrimp kadaifi, & the saganaki. Let me start off by informing you that my bf & I are sushi lovers so we are familiar with good quality raw sushi (we loveeeeee raw sushi). The tuna crudo was flavorful w a bit of a tangy taste. I've tasted crispy rice from many different restaurants and let me tell you this one was the besttt! My bf fav appetizer was the crispy rice! It was the perfect ratio of tuna and crispy rice which I loved the most. The duo tartare was sooooo good I love the combo of the salmon & tuna w avocado at the bottom! The lotus chips topped it off because it added texture due to the crunch. The crispy potatoes & caviar was amazinggggg it was a small portion but the potatoes overpowered the caviar. I was hoping to taste the caviar a bit more. Onto the shrimp kadaifi, it was hugeeeee I love how they added fried vermicelli noodles around it. I'm Cambodian, in our culture we make fried shrimp rolls. The shrimp kadaifi tasted similar but since they wrapped noodles around it, it gave it a different type of texture which I like, the sauce they included almost taste like spicy mayo which wasn't bad at all. Now onto the sanganaki, the star of the appetizers.. it came out in a pan and the waiter lit it on fire which was really nice! It's cheese w a nice tangy sweet burnt taste to it. It was addicting to eat!!! At this point, I am full but here comes our entree. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection, it came out w a white sauce which added more flavor and coldness to the plate, the layered potatoes were similar to the ones that used for the caviar which was good. It wasn't your average potatoe fries. The lobster pasta was average it tasted like spaghetti. Overall, the restaurant exceeded my expectations. Everything was really nice, fast, the decor was beautiful, the cocktail was so good, the appetizers was delicious!!!!! Def a 10/10 !
