Disappointing Mothers Day meal
We arrived a few minutes early for a 2.30pm Motherโs Day lunch reservation. We were asked to take a seat near the bar as our table wasnโt ready, fair enough. We ordered drinks while waiting but when it got to 2.45 I asked why we hadnโt been seated - no one had bothered to come and apologise for keeping us waiting! I was told it would be a few more minutes as they were waiting for a โbetterโ table and the hostess then apologised. We were then seated at almost 2.55, - nothing special about the table, we were asked if we wanted wine, my husband replied he would probably have a glass but then no one bothered to bring a wine menu so he didnโt bother. Two of us ordered the roast beef and when the food arrived nearly half an hour later, we were shocked to see the beef was pretty much raw - needless to say we had to send it back and request it to be cooked to medium. I have never seen roast beef served so rare, the rind wasnโt even rendered. We should have been told how it would be served beforehand. All the vegetables were barely warm and there was just a tiny bit of gravy in the bottom of each enormous jug it was served in. We were hungry so finished our food and immediately requested the bill. The waiter brought it and told us our drinks werenโt on it which we thought meant we had to pay separately for them at the bar, but he meant they were complimentary because we had to send our food back. Interestingly enough, although there appeared to be at least one manager on duty, we were clearly werenโt deemed important enough for an actual apology. I canโt help but wonder if my husband and friend werenโt the right โshadeโ for their restaurantโฆ.. we wonโt be returning, thatโs for sure!
Be the first to ReplyAn outstanding Tasting Menu lunch
Allegra All of our previous visits to Allegra have been on a sunday so we thought it was about time to try the Tasting Menu which looks incredible value for money when you consider the quality we know they produce. So on Saturday lunchtime we did just that. After walking through the shopping centre you head to the Stratford Hotel and the oasis that is the seventh floor. Here you will find peace and tranquility and a fabulous way to spend an afternoon. We arrived on Saturday via their private lift on the ground floor which takes you straight to the restaurant. We were given a fabulous warm welcome before being escorted to our table. Now we could relax with the anticipation of great food , wine and service that we know Allegra provides. A complimentary glass of bubbles arrived from sommelier Seyit to welcome us back. The tasting menu was already on the table and consisted ten courses including snacks and petit fours for the amazing price of just ยฃ62. Even if you added the two supplement courses it would still be under one hundred pounds. Now on to the menu which started with a fantastic selection of Snacks. These were the Beef Tartare , green peppercorn and watercress tarts , Hazelnut and Onion gougeres , Focaccia with tomato , basil and parmesan from the menu. They also treated us to a couple of their classics in the Pistachio Choux buns and the Waldorf Tarts. We now needed some wine to pair with the majority of the menu and from their Bin End wine list sommelier Seyit recommended a Valdespino 2020 Palomino from Spain that was an absolute delight. Our first starter course was the Beetroot , winter leaves , blackberries and pecan a very interesting combination of flavours that worked together beautifully. This was followed be the second starter a heavenly Bouillabaisse with hake , mussels , fennel , croutons and basil. This led us to the supplemented Roasted Scallop with pickled celery , champagne and caviar which was literally one of the best scallop dishes Iโve ever tasted. Next to arrive was the Barbecued Monkfish with carrot , lardo , ginger and shellfish sauce that was simply a triumph. Now it was time for the main course and fantastic it was to . The Confit Lamb Breast with purple sprouting broccoli and anchovy dressing was delicious. We decided having tried it before not to have the second supplemented course of Parker House Rolls which I would definitely recommend. This meant it was now time for the amazing pastry chef Kelly to work her magic and she did not let us down in the slightest. We started with the pre dessert of Sour Cherry , buttermilk ice cream and olive oil before moving on to a dessert feast. Firstly from the menu a fabulous Rhubarb and Vanilla Tart. This was accompanied by two extra dishes newly created by Kelly. The Cherry and Chocolate Tart was a delight and the Orange and Caramel Mille Feuille was an absolute dream. We finished with a coffee and petit fours to bring to an end to a fantastic afternoon. The food was amazing , desserts were stunning , the wine was fabulous and the service was first class. When you consider that this tasting menu with one additional supplement dish was a mere ยฃ81 then it really was an exceptional dining experience. I would without doubt recommend a visit to Allegra and for one are looking forward to many more visits in the future. Ten Course Tasting Menu (including snacks and petit fours) ยฃ62 Value for money i think is outstanding Thank You to the chefs , Kelly , Seyit , Palumi and all the team for an amazing afternoon and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Birthday lunch, highly recommend
Lovely meal, great service. We started with oysters and then onto the starter which is a lovely mix of shared plates. For main we shared the beef sirloin and the hash browns with crusty sesame crisp were absolutely stunning. We drank a Pommard and then had tokay and beignets. Then a piece of birthday cake and candle was appreciated. Good coffee and liqueurs - a lovely birthday lunch

A great warm and friendly greeting as soon as we came out of the lift. The chef(s) are amazing we could not fault any of the courses we had from the tasting menu. The scallop was sublime and would recommend all to choose this course as part of their tasting experience. A wonderful experience, and a big shout out to Cherry. Such a great member of your team. Keep up the hard work. we will be back.
Be the first to Replya great experience
We had the fixed lunch on Saturday, choosing cod and chicken for our mains. It was lovely - great food, Sicilian orange wine and great service from Bobby.
Be the first to ReplyA fabulous Sunday lunch.
We had a mix up on our booking which at first was a bit of a concern but Clair Bracey, the GM, dealt with it with total professionalism. Therefore, we had a wonderful Sunday lunch. The shared starters for the table of steak tartare and mussels and fabulous bread etc was divine, followed by the most amazing sirloin steak to share, with a carrot side dish - recommended by Bobby - which were also delicious. Finished off with light and tasty desserts with tokaji for me and port for my hubby. A really enjoyable experienced. Thanks Clair for making it work, and to Bobby for great service. Jane and Ken.
Be the first to ReplyGlamorous restaurant with top food
Great decor, glamorous atmosphere. Set menu for Sunday lunch was good value. Wine list is expensive but there are some bottles in the ยฃ30s and the Cote de Gascogne was good. The starters for the table were delicious. I had fish which was great, and the others loved the lamb dish.
Be the first to ReplyService was a shambles, food has gone downhill
I really do hope that the vastly different experience at dinner this time wasnโt due to being with an old friend, rather than my white partner. We were made to feel very unwelcome when we arrived, and after being seated I was told I could not order a g&t until the sommelier reached our table. So I then got up and wandered around to find the sommelier to request said G&T. Sommelier then comes to the table to start discussing wine. I said I found this odd given we hadnโt even opened our food menus, so how was he to advise? He says he could anyway, but I insisted that we would choose our food first, and then talk wine. I think sensing at this point that they had messed up, a wonderful woman then looked after us for most of the rest of the evening, and acted as an intermediary. But there were still things that really werenโt on, such as the sommelier pouring wine over my arm later in the evening, and there being no white port on the menu, and then when I said I would have the Portuguese port, being asked if that was the ten year reserve - I said I wasnโt sure, but as it was the only Portuguese one on the menu, I assumed so. I also felt very patronised at several other points, including having to having to get out of the way of staff taking drinks to other tables when I went to the toilet, rather than them standing back for me as the customer. I refer back to really, really hoping it wasnโt because I was with an old friend, rather than my white partner. The food was ok, some was even good. And your options for anything decent in this bit of London are limited. But Allegra, youโve lost me as a customer, and I shall not be recommending you any more.
Be the first to ReplyAs always, Allegra was wondrful
As always, Allegra was wonderful. Patient when due to travel problems we turned up late. Generous when we asked for accommodation on restricted diets and wine choices. Food spectacular. Wine astonishing. Friendly and yet non-intrusive service. And it was only when we looked round and noticed that we were the only remaining guests that we realised that we had just spent nearly five hours enjoying ourselves. Long live Allegra and all its wonderful staff!!! SX
Be the first to ReplyGreat oysters & cocktails, nice atmosphere
Beautiful restaurant with nice rooftop (it wasnโt open because of the weather but looked great). Food was good- great oysters, mussels in thai sauce and polenta fries were delicious. Yummy margaritas. Donโt expect big portion sizes but nice for a lunch or dinner to treat yourself. Service was attentive
Be the first to ReplySuperb dinner 5/5
Superb dinner experience at the Allegra restaurant following a shopping afternoon at Westfield. Excellent โsnackโ starters, and gorgeous mains. Steak to share, the lamb, and the cod and lobster all went down exceptionally well. Expansive wine list. Lovely desserts and the staff made a great fuss with birthday cake and candles. Will definitely visit again. Especially as we have someone named Allegra in our family!
Be the first to ReplyLovely meal after Abba Voyage
We were staying at the Stratford for Abba voyage so came across by chance Certainly worth a visit We went with the tasting menu, and were not disappointed. The hor dโoeuvres were lovely, and I especially enjoyed the venison and quail. The sommelier was excellent and advised us , with what we know we like , to a gorgeous Zinfandel How waiter was excellent and very engaging and diligent We are glad we were there early (6:15) as it got a little busier and service a little slower. One for the team to work at
Be the first to ReplyAn exceptional experience in Stratford
We've eaten here several times since it opened. Never been disappointed. Comfortable ambience; personable and informed staff; and a menu that entertains, intrigues and fulfills.
Be the first to ReplyFor your information....................
We visited Allegra yesterday, before going on to the Abba Voyage. It was our Xmas outing and I choose the restaurant for its location and the reviews I had read were on the whole good. We had two vegetarians in our group, and they were well catered for. The mixed starters were delicious, whipped cod was my favourite. My friend and I ordered the beef as our main to share. We asked for it to be medium rare, and unfortunately it was very rare when it came out. I had to send it back twice, which was a shame as the vegetables and delicious bearnaise did not stay warm by the time the beef was served. The knives for cutting the beef were very confusing. The sommelier, I thought was quite rude and said " For your information the sharp side is the other way" he definitely made us feel a bit stupid. There are ways and ways of talking to the guests. Anyway on the whole it was an enjoyable experience.....Just make sure to remember the knife is the wrong way up !!!
Be the first to ReplyA Gastronomic Experience with Delightful Service!
A wonderful classy restaurant with an innovative menu and superb service. A big shout out to Bobby, Cherry, and Seyit who made our evening so enjoyable. We hade the tasting menu which was excellent and on par with the top Central London restaurants, but very good value at ยฃ85. The wine list is extensive with wines for all budgets and, again, reasonably priced compared to others. I got the sense that Allegra has a good culture with integrity and a social conscience.
Be the first to ReplyEven better than before
We ate at Allegra when it first opened and enjoyed it very much, and then again just after lockdown when they did a good job coping with the various restrictions. We had lunch there today, opting for the well-priced set menu, and it was better than ever. Superb food, excellent wine and the the staff were highly professional and very friendly. It's a lovely, airy space as well. We live locally so will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyA fabulous lunch on Sunday
Weโd certainly heard a lot of good things about Allegra so it was time to finally experience it for ourselves. I am now very delighted to say that after thoroughly enjoying our lunch on sunday we will definitely be making more visits in the future. The restaurant itself is located on the seventh floor of The Stratford Hotel adjacent to stratford international station. You enter the hotel and make your way round to the lift. Then you just simply press the seven and before you know the doors open and your in the restaurant. We were given a delightfully warm welcome before taking a seat at the bar for an aperitif. This also gave us a chance to have a look around. The bar is on the right with bar stools and a seating area. The far end turns into counter seating where you can see the chefs in action. Then in an L shape you have the restaurant which has a very spacious and modern look. We then ordered our cocktails the Remember The Name of rye whiskey , cream sherry , raisins and the Clementina featuring mezcal , fino sherry and clementine cordial. They were both an absolute delight. After our drinks we were escorted to a lovely round table in the corner of the dining area giving us a fabulous view of the entire restaurant. Once settled our waiter Rodrigo whoโs service throughout our lunch was impeccable. He first gave us a description of how the menu works. This is designed for sharing that includes snacks , starters , mains sides and desserts but you could also quite easily create you own three course meal as some mains are smaller than others. We decided to start with a couple of snacks. The Fried Oyster , malt vinegar , sea perslane and yoghurt along with the Pistachio Choux liver parfait , preserved clementine and black garlic. The flavours were amazing leaving us eagerly waiting for what was to follow. Next it was onto the starters where we ordered the Potato Rosti with whipped cod brandade , pickled onions and seaweed , Crab on Toast with elderflower and shellfish sauce. Lastly was the amazing Duck Neck Sausage with poached egg , sauce ravigote and bitter leaves. We were washing these down with a fantastic light red wine from Greece. The Xinomavro 2020 from the Thymiopoulos Winery was full of strawberry flavours. Now it was on to the main course. Here we shared the Aged Sirloin of Grass Fed Beef with a bordelaise sauce that was heaven. We accompanied this with side dishes of Crispy Potatoes with pickled onion and wholegrain mustard , Roasted Carrots , harissa , almonds and yoghurt , Purple Sprouting Broccoli with hazelnut butter and toasted yeast. We really were enjoying all the fantastic flavours and each dish was perfectly cooked. We then needed a little rest before moving to desserts. What was to follow were three delicious treats consisting of the Fig Mille Feuille with epping honey ice cream , the Milk Chocolate , speculoos and fig leaf and also a clever Ricotta Ice Cream with preserved cherry and olive oil. We finished with a coffee to bring to an end a fabulous dining experience and one that I canโt wait to repeat. I would also like to visit at a different time when their tasting menu is on offer. I highly recommend a visit here as the food was fantastic and matched by excellent friendly service. You can also enjoy a fabulous cocktail at the bar or outside on the terrace while enjoying a great view of the surrounding area. Thank You all for a fantastic lunch and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing restaurant
We came here after being attracted by Allegra's Instagram and other social media. However our experience was very disappointing. What started out as good service quickly turned into long waiting times of 40-50 minutes between dishes, including between 'snacks' and 'starters', which was just poor. The crab toast was cold and the dishes were not very creative for a restaurant with such a high supposed calibre. The oyster were excellent but the steak tartare had such a poor design, with carrots on top and mixed with the steak completely ruining it. The service became poor over time and we felt ignored by the waiters. When one did come he was silent and did not ask about our experience, despite us hearing him being very vocal and conversational with other diners. We felt treated differently and that was disappointing. Needless to say we will not be coming back again, especially considering the location of the restaurant which is a little in the middle of nowhere (and whilst it is on the top floor and has a great view, the view is mainly empty construction sites and unfinished buildings).
Be the first to ReplyStunning food in a roof top Oasis
We ate outdoors in their lovely rooftop restaurant. The food was absolute stunning and the service was outstanding. By far the best restaurant in Stratford.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointingly disappointing
Was excited to try Allegra on a recent short break to London given their inclusion in the 2022 National Restaurant Awards top 100 UK restaurants. Our schedule only allowed us to book on a Wednesday evening when they only offer a set tasting menu and no a la carte. We knew this in advance and the price seemed good value (presumably to encourage people out to Stratford) so this was not a problem. On arrival we enjoyed a lovely cocktail and beer outside on the terrace though it didn't seem to be fully set up like I had seen social media. The restaurant itself is lovely. Service was slow and felt slower as the meal proceeded. The time between dishes that came from the kitchen (as opposed to the counter) felt excessive and most arrived lukewarm. That said I think whole meal took 2 hours which would be about right for some tasting menus but perhaps not for the number of dishes they serve. Nothing memorable or standout in the cooking on the evening we visited sadly. Snacks to start were nice, there was a fairly delicious scallop dish and the pre-dessert was tasty but the rest of the meal particularly the fish and meat (pork) courses were such a let-down. We couldnโt shake the feeling that the FOH staff were mainly focusing on tables further round the restaurant. The chefs at the counter where we were sat didn't really engage except to serve the snacks and dessert courses. I appreciate that they are busy in service but counter chefs in other places usually manage a bit interaction. That said there seemed to be a very loud chatty diner when we arrived so perhaps they were trying to have a break from that! We left wishing we had gone elsewhere. I have since read that they use the Wednesday tasting menu to try out dishes in development so perhaps that is why, when we visited, that the food fell short of what we would have expected. To be honest they fell short for me as dishes in development for such a restaurant. I hate to be critical in the current climate and appreciate that the kitchen could well have been short staffed / in difficulty but also want to be honest that both food and service left us cold. Maybe the a la carte on another evening would have been much better? I would be interested to know but unlikely to return to find out.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service for a special occasion
I booked this a little while ago for our Mumโs 60th birthday after some extensive research and much consideration, and we were not disappointed. I really wanted a fine dining experience without the pretension and that is exactly what we got. We arrived a little early and had an aperitif on the Terrace prior to our restaurant sitting, which I had mentioned in my booking was something we might like to do if they could accompany us, and they were more than happy to do this. The signature cocktails were fantastic and very well balanced. We opted for the Chefโs Selection tasting menu and every course was amazing. The attention to detail and precision of the cooking and plating was as good if not better than any Michelin star restaurant we have visited. The staff were attentive without being intrusive and very knowledgeable about the food being served. Polite and friendly so we felt relaxed and able to enjoy our meal. The sommelier took time to find out our wine preferences and helped us choose the best matches for the dishes on the menu, his choices were reasonably priced with no hint of him trying to push the most expensive bottles. Iโm useless with names, so sorry Iโm not able to individually praise the staff we interacted with as they really do deserve recognition. My Mum was presented with an additional dessert as a birthday treat which was a lovely touch. The decor inside and out is elegant without being stuffy, chic and contemporary, very well considered. I will definitely be looking to visit again in the future and Iโll be surprised if this restaurant doesnโt soon receive a Michelin star, as it certainly deserves it.

Be the first to ReplyBirthday visit to Allegra
We visited Allegra for a birthday meal. We came all the way from Swansea. The restaurant and food were lovely. Our server was Patrick he was very welcoming and advised us on the menu . The fried chicken and monkfish were recommended and they were delicious. He served us with a happy face even though he was at work on a Sunday and was supposed to be at a drum and bass rave in Birmingham. Lol. We would visit again.

More details and family-friendly reviews on my blog 'The Frenchie Mummy' and on Instagram @thefrenchiemummy. So, Google it and have a look there too. Merci. We had lunch there with my family and such a fabulous experience. The food was amazing and so was the service. And what a view with the terrace! Au menu: Allegraโs house bread, Pistachio choux, Fried chicken with aioli, and Grilled asparagus for me. And my partner ordered the Trout cooked with some potatoes. It was absolutely delicious from start to finish ๐ฝ All delicious! We will have to come back kids-free maybe for a romantic dinner? I wonder what it looks like to eat on the terrace at night. Otherwise, super family-friendly and great service!
