Disappointed by the lack of inventory
We chose this spot for a glass of wine and a lite dinner after a show based on reviews we had read. It is a short walk from the theatre district and being part of the Le Beradin group we had high expectations. The hostess was pleasant and the server knowledgeable about the wines. The food menu had a good variety of charcuterie, started and mains listed. The ambiance was spot on for what we wanted the night to finish like. The low rating is all related to the words “we don’t have that wine” and the excuse of the “truck did not arrive today”. So, a wine bar that had 3 selections not available and vintages on the menu that had changed. Not what we expected.
Be the first to ReplyComfortable and high quality
We just stumbled on this place while heading to Radio City Music Hall for the Rocketts Christmas show. If was super comfortable and quiet. The service was top level, we really enjoyed our time there and will be back. We had a bottle of wine and some small food items. The food was very high quality.
Be the first to ReplyHappy hour was great
Follow the people after work and we dropped in to have an evening drink on our way home. Buzzy and fun but best of all very good price on a round of happy hour drinks
Be the first to ReplyA highlight for sure.
Lunch at Aldo Sohm was a must-do in NY. We are fans of his book, Wine Simple, and were anticipating our chance to experience his wine bar. Both the wine and the food were most enjoyable. The menu had a nice selection of wines by the glass and small plates. The experience did not disappoint. Beautiful Wine! Delicious food. Gorgeous atmosphere. They were able to modify dishes to make them gluten-free to accommodate my gluten sensitivity. We had a lovely chat with Aldo - he was very friendly, and engaging it was a pleasure to meet him.

What a great place to hang!! Whether you are looking for a place to relax before a show or if you are just getting off work, this place has a good vibe. I think if you are going to call yourself a wine bar, you better have some unique wines. This place certainly delivers. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.
Be the first to ReplyA small gem in midtown
Came here with friends for a drink and small bites. Tucked into an alley on 51st Street is Aldo’s wine bar. Very small, comfy vibe with couches and a few high tables. Staff was very accommodating. Wine and food was the perfect amount. Will return.

If you just want some great sips and nibbles, come here. Wonderful for catching up with friends over a glass or two of wine. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. We would definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing!!!
Absolutely perfect vibe here! The seating is perfect - we were seated at the sofa area and it was so relaxing yet sophisticated. The wine was brilliant and our waiter knew exactly what to pair things with and gave us full info on the wines. The food was just delicious. We would 100% visit again next time we are in NYC - it was our favourite place the whole visit!
Be the first to ReplyGreat place, even better service!
Great wine selection by an a widely acclaimed sommelier. We know our wines but were paralysed by the wide selection. Thankfully for us, we had Carla serving us that evening. Bright, young and knowledgeable, she expertly guided us through 5 different wines that we had. She made a great place truly memorable.
Be the first to ReplySimple wine bar inside Avenue 6 & 1/2
Modern wine bar off 6.5 avenue. Reasonable selection of wines by the glass, but not expansive. Food is simple - recommend the three cheese selected by the chef. The Brie was fresh and while the waiter did not know it’s region the likelihood was from melun. ( clearly it was French)
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing!
Terrible service Lunch time empty place and the food took a very long time to come The waitresses don’t know anything about wine It belongs to Le Bernardin!!!
Be the first to ReplyFriendly service by sommeliers
I have been here countless times since moving back to NYC in 2018 - for business, with friends for solo. While the staff may change, they are all very knowledge sommeliers with expertise in specific regions. The wine flight which changes about every month is a fun way to experience 3 glasses by theme. I also love how the music isn't too loud - makes for a great private conversation over wine in an atmosphere that is as comfortable as one's living room.
Be the first to ReplyVery good wine and small plates, fantastic service
We had a very different experience than many of your reviewers. We were staying nearby and walked over with no reservation for a light supper. They were very busy, but the host immediately found us a lovely table in the corner of the U-shaped sofa. Our server was prompt, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The charcuterie and cheeses were outstanding with a 375ml bottle of Laherte Frères, Extra Brut NV Champagne. After, we shared a Tarte Flambée. They did not have an Alsatian white by the glass, but our server recommended a lovely Riesling from the Mosel as a substitute. I would like more reserve wines by the glass using their Coravin system; if they had, I would have rated it excellent instead of very good.
Be the first to ReplyGreat stems with cold and snobbish service
1 star for the service: cold and snobbish.
5 star for the stems
Zalto is one of my faves: thin, light and elegant.
Upon entering the bar, a male staff rushed over and greeted us by the door. His attitude could be warmer and friendlier? We’re not your enemy.
The young woman who served us is downright cold and snobbish. Sorry that my Chinglish is less than ideal.
I thought about the last month we came to find a closed door, in spite of me having called them the night before to check their hours and if close/open. I was assured by a female that they were open. Maybe lousy service is their trade mark.
Great environment, but wine a bit lacklustre
Great buzz, and a smart bar. Good for midweek drinks with friends or as a couple.
We were however a bit disappointed that there were so few American based wines, just two whites by the glass and no reds.
We would’ve also appreciated tasting notes for each wine, or indeed the waiter offering this to enhance the experience. Sadly he was more intent on pushing us to buy more wine, than offering any insights or knowledge to each glass.
The wines we did have were average examples of the grapes you’re drinking, and sadly were very much overpriced. Nonetheless, it’s NYC..
We probably wouldn’t return as the quality of the wine let the place down, and we are keen to explore USA wine. However, as a group of friends you can certainly have a good evening I’m sure here as the bar itself has a nice buzz.
Great for good wine
Food is delicious, you can try their small plates which are very good with wine. Atmosphere is so welcoming. Very good to go with your girl friend. Also good for small meetings.
Be the first to ReplyGo for the wine
Nice selection of wines. Food is not at par. Expensive and not generous. Duck salad is more salad than duck with a little cube of confit on top of aragula plate. Service is not consistent.
Stopped in here just seeing
Stopped in here just seeing the sign on the street. Warm ambiance. Cozy seating with very tall ceilings. Prompt friendly service. We got 2 bottles of wine with cheese and charcuterie. Charcuterie tower was a good value and the cheeses were outstanding. Excellent quiet spot off the beaten path but close to the sights.
Be the first to ReplyFreindly staff, pleasant setting
This place was OK. Just went in for a couple of glasses. The staff was reasonably pleasant by New York standards and bearing in mind it was close to closing time. I expected a larger wine list by the glass. Would return, byt for a cheese and cold cut platter to acompany the wine.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely on our must do list for future trips.
Recommend by a friend. We had an early dinner reservation elsewhere, and it was a little late for lunch, so we shared an excellent cheese board (Chefs choice of four). Also shared a Gruner wine pairing and a great Cab. It turned out to be a great version of “Afternoon Tea”, American style. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Be the first to Reply'Night cap' after the show
Attended one of the shows the other night and had time to a selection of European art cheeses and a glass of red wine on the way back to the hotel. The Wine Bar is exclusively located between W 51 and 52 Street, and the room is big and modern, but still with good acoustics and a fine atmosphere. Staff was friendly and welcoming even though it was late. From the wine list I could choose only one red wine by the glass from US: Cab S 2015 from Gramercy Celllars in Columbia Valley. Splendid wine, but I could wish a broader supply of local wines.
Any way: Will I go there again? Yes, as soon as possble.
Poor service
We enjoyed the wines but the service here was terrible. Our waiter ignored us and generally approached us as if he didn’t like us or was pissed off. When he poured us wine, mine was dramatically less than who I was with. If you are looking to be ignored, feel unwelcome but enjoy good wine then this place is for you. Otherwise, please enjoy the plethora of other wine bars (not this one) in Manhattan. Oh and the bathroom has piss on the floor.
