Alamo Drafthouse Cinema New Mission San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
I am an Alamo stan.
I go to the location in D.C. quite often, so when a friend invited me to this location while I was in town, I didn't hesitate. This theater is gorgeous: the inside feels like a relic of another time, like one of those old school movie houses you see in photos of Hollywood from the 30s and 40s. I especially loved the addition of a pinball area (which we spent a little bit of time in before it was time to sit in the theater for our show). The service at this Alamo was impeccable. The staff was attentive, responsive, and super accommodating. I loved how they offered us water without even flinching which is something the D.C. location rarely does. The food also came out quick, hot, fresh, and CORRECT (another huge win -- as much as I love the D.C. Alamo, this part varies on day and time). My only wish is that the seating was a little more comfortable. I get that a lot of the charm at this location is partly what I'm assuming is the preservation of the auditoriums so they maintain that throwback cinema feel, but I'm not the thinnest person. If I were even fatter than I am now, I could imagine this not being the best option to see a movie. It's also kind of odd that some of the auditoriums require stairs to get to: I have mobility, but if you have limited mobility, I could see this being a possible roadblock. I look forward to coming back here when I'm in SF. Long live the Alamo!!

We have such fond memories of coming here and really
We have such fond memories of coming here and really enjoying the whole experience. The giant bowl of truffle popcorn. Cocktails silently delivered to your table. A humorous preview set before the movie starts. And an inflexible policy to avoid experiencing the talking and device usage of inconsiderate people next to you. Happy to see this theater make it through the pandemic and come out swinging--the theater we were in was sold out for Dune 2. But...yes, there were some issues. During the previews, I guess Alamo decided the sell out theater was not enough $$$ so they carried in extra seats to the back area that is reserved for people in wheelchairs (who were not present). So these extra seats were not secured to the floor. So these extra seats just happened to squeak like a seagull squawks. So yes, throughout the film there were squawks whenever these people in these mobile seats moved, got up to use the restroom, tried to recline, or when they moved their entire chair forward, over and over and over, to get an inch closer and closer and closer to the screen, making the aisle narrower and narrower and narrower. But that's ok, Timothy Chalamet's tight little assets on a giant screen will distract you right? Wrong. The talking and device usage that drives you nuts, that is not present here in this theater, has been replaced. Replaced by what you ask? Replaced by hard plastic, 32 ounce cups filled with ice. Just ice as the drink that once filled this cup is gone. Just ice that gets inverted on the face to capture the tablespoon of liquid that remains. Rattle! And then upright to set back down. Rattle! And then heavily set down on the hard tabletop. Smack! Rattle! So when the handful of people--you know these people, these are the talkers, the device users, who have been restrained by Alamo--start a never-ending chorus of shaking beans in tin cans, it is the worst experience ever. So no, Alamo, you have not mastered the silent audience experience. Until you rein in the bean can shakers, your movie experience is absolute crap. And not even the Kwisatz-Haderach can save you.
My husband and I generally visit Alamo once or twice a
My husband and I generally visit Alamo once or twice a month, and the service has always been pretty lousy (on every visit I have to wait at least 30 minutes when I order a second drink and remind them multiple times) but after our visit last week to see problemistas, I will never go back. I ordered an Alamo spritz, and it shows up half full with three mostly melted ice cubes floating on top of flat sparkling wine. Then my food comes and the fries are clearly at least an hour old, stale and cold. So I mention it to my server, and she takes my plate to fix it. FORTY FIVE MINUTES LATER she brings back my plate and I shit you not, it was the exact same plate with the exact same fries, with the one dollop of ketchup I left on them now crusting and drying. My husband ordered a refill of his iced tea, and waited a half hour for that. It was delivered with the check, ten minutes before the end of the movie.
great ambiance and nostalgic emvirinment.
The service is always subpar and the food is considered well considering it's a movie theater.
I love this place! It's a little slice of nostalgia heaven.
It's really special. Tonight was my second time coming and I had a great time. One of the team members was so kind, so good at his job, and was just radiating happiness. I could tell he really loved his job. Was shocked to find out it was his first day after training. Anyway, great theater, great food, and great energy.
We purchased our tickets on Fandango.
Due to the nature of parking in the area, we walked in one minute after the posted showtime. Our seats were in the back corner so we quietly walked in and were immediately escorted our the back door and told to get a refund as we were not permitted to enter late. The front desk couldn't refund the tickets because we used Fandango. Fandango would refund the tickets because the movie started, and nowhere on our tickets does it indicate this policy. I will not be back. They showed no respect for us as customers.

I love this place! The theaters are amazing and the service is top notch. I cant believe it took me 10 years to finally watch a sad movie and stuff my face all the while- and with bottomless popcorn you can do just that. Why not wash it down with the many beers they have on tap! I wouldn't order a cocktail from them again. But I do still order wings, pizza, or a shake from time to time.
Worst theatre I've ever been to.
We were literally one minute late to a showing and they kicked us out. Rude staff. Very bizarre policy. Stay away.
My experience having bought the most expensive movie
My experience having bought the most expensive movie tickets l've ever bought is that I couldn't find parking in time to make the showtime. The show was a birthday treat for my disabled husband who I just have to drive everywhere. Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco do not have a parking lot and the neigbourhood they are located in is very difficult to find parking in -- seriously you can drive around for 30 minutes before finding a parking spot on some dark sketchy street. And because I didn't tell them that I couldn't make the show an hour before the show they said will not refund me or exchange my tickets for another show. Honestly a waste of money and time. I know the Alamo Drafthouse from when I lived in Austin Texas where every theatre has parking. The concept of not letting anyone in after the showtime works in Austin because parking is provided. But that concept doesn't work in San Francisco. These guys need to change their policy, find a location with a parking lot or get out of town.
