Akoko London Reviews from The Last Year
Outstanding
Blown away by Akoko. Absolutely fabulous food coupled with their Akoko drinks pairing with wine, cocktails and even a porter. Staff were knowledge and lovely. The restaurant itself has a stylish, minimal vibe. The food is exceptional. Ever wondered how jollof rice could ever be worthy of a Michelin star? Wonder no longer! Wow. It ain’t cheap but well worth every penny. Go the extra mile and opt for the additional caviar course. You won’t regret it. Top drawer.
As good as promised (and try the mixed-beverage pairing!)
If you’ve read any of the other reviews of Akoko, you already know you’re in for a treat when you dine here. My experience is just more confirmation of that—but I will point out two specifics that might be of interest: 1) The vegan menu is exceptionally good. One member of our group chose this option—you should let the restaurant know ahead of time, when you book—and it was delightful to see the differences in the various courses between the vegan and the meat-centric dishes. Equal care taken, equally inventive and delicious. Not at all perfunctory. 2) Don’t sleep on the ‘mixed’ beverage pairing. I think it’s an even better option than the all-wine option: You’ll get a spread of wines, cocktails, and even one beer to complement your various courses. The quality is uniformly high, and the variety, at least for me, really added to the fun. Fair warning: like most alcohol pairings with tasting menus, it ends up being a fair amount of booze. Don’t feel obligated to finish these drinks. Highly recommended to all London visitors. And if you’re a local? Be rich and go often.
Oustanding
Excellent food, outstanding experience. A superb list of meals from West Africa, together with the Akoko pairing (2 wines, 2 cocktails, 1 beer) lefts us pleasantly happy, full and slightly tipsy.
Amazing
Well, I've never been to a West African restaurant before, so I can't really judge whether Akoko represents African cuisine, but that doesn't matter at all, because regardless of that, I've rarely had such an excellent tasting menu before. Starting with the starters at the beginning (oysters, pulled beef croquettes), the excellent - I'm not usually a big fan of it - crab meat up to the maincourses (monkfish with chanterelles, Wagyu with Jollof rice and an excellent ox cheek), everything was really outstanding And the the two desserts were also first class. The excellent wine pairing - and as a big fan of South African and Greek wines, I almost felt at home here - was perfect, too.
Very good
Really amazing experience, food was truly unique and so so flavourful. Our waiter Etien made myself and my partner's experience super individual, happy and exciting. He really talked us through our dishes' origins and flavours. Whole thing was a bit on the pricey-side for sure, but as a treat it was great. I had the veggie lunch menu and my partner had the meat and I didn't feel like I was left out on flavour at all. It was for my partner's birthday too and the waiters and chefs all signed her card which was super lovely! Vegetarian options: I had the veggie lunch menu (with my partner having the meat option) and I didn't feel like I was left out on flavour at all. All options matched each other (veggie to meat) in portion and essence. Very well curated.
Amazingly original flavours
What a surprise, very unique and original. A breath of fresh air on the restaurant scene. the dishes are seemingly simple yet the flavours are bold and spot on. Things you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. And altogether very reasonably priced for the quality of the food and service. Shout ou to Etienne who appropriately described all the African foods and spices furthering our exploration!
A1 experience
Excellent experience with a taste of Africa that is unlike anywhere I’ve been. The staff was warm and welcoming and the executive chef spent time with us sharing his experience and inspiration. Each dish was absolutely amazing. We did the wine pairing which added to the experience. We will be back without a doubt.
Faultless food but serve required some attention.
The food was amazing and could not be faulted. My wife is a pescatarian but has an allergy to shell fish and they tailored her menu perfectly without effort. However, the service was a bit haphazard. Despite the care to our menu, the wrong dishes came out on two occasions and an incorrect drink was bought over. These are small issues and were rectified swiftly. Although towards the end of our meal we felt a little uncomfortable. We were there for lunch and had the long menu. The gaps between the courses became longer and so much so that we were visibly eating into their break between lunch and dinner service. The attention dropped off (we were not offered tea or coffee). Now these seem minor complaints, however when paying a significant and comparing to similar priced restaurants, you do expect the service to be seem less. I stress, the food itself was faultless.
African food - what a treat!
Having watched the Michelin-guide award show for 2024, I noticed that Akoko received its first star. Having never enjoyed any African food I took the opportunity to book for lunch at Akoko - maybe it was time to experience something new? Akoko is situated in Soho in a not-too-big restaurant. I had booked a seat at the counter (the restaurant has an open kitchen) and watched the chefs in action. And action it was! The restaurant became quickly full, and the chefs worked so hard. One menu is offered with fish and meat, however the menu is also available as vegetarian or vegan. At lunchtime you can select a short version of the menus. I went for the full menu. To drink I had the Akoko pairing with two glasses of wine, two cocktails and one beer. Together with the two amuse bouches (chicken liver and oyster) I had an additional cocktail. The menu includes British ingredients combined with West African spices. The dishes are slightly "hot" due to (restricted) use of chili, but if you are not into chili, you don't have to worry, because the drinks menu is so well prepared to reduce the heat from the chili. The first dishes were from the sea: mackerel and brill respectively. After this an additional - and quite posh - optional dish was served: tiny slightly sweet pancakes with caviar and goat cashew cream. On request the waiter suggested a glass of champagne. Back to the menu I had lamb (filet or sirloin, not quite sure) followed by ox tongue. On the side was Jollof rice, which was crunchy adding texture to the meat dishes. Very good indeed. At the end of the meal two desserts were served: the pre dessert with goats milk parfait and the final with a chocolate coffee cake and accompanying ice cream. This was indeed an exciting experience in a vibrant restaurant with - it seemed - quite a lot of happy guests. The staff were amazing, knowledgeable and very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant, the Michelin-star is so well deserved, and I would love to return on my next visit to London.
Extraordinary. Exceptional, beautiful, creative cuisine and blissful experience
Had an absolutely wonderful meal and experience at Akoko, including: -Truly exceptional, beautiful, creative cuisine with unique, perfectly-balanced flavors and presentations. -Kind and gracious service, from the servers to the executive chef, who stopped by our table to say hello -Warm, calm, almost zen-like decor with artisan-made and impeccably selected African tableware. Cannot say enough good things about the restaurant.
Unique & brilliant
Outstanding food, amazing service and one-of-a-kind Akoko drinks pairing. We'll be back and we'll be telling everyone we know about his unique and brilliant experience.
Simply the best
Incredible. Service second to none, incredible setting. Head chef a master and Etienne our waiter the epitome of his profession
Wonderful lunch with fantastic flavours
A tasting menu which provides wonderful and exciting flavours. No disappointments. The kitchen team is at the top of its game. Service is relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable. The food is obviously taken very seriously. You can taste the freshness and work which has gone into every dish. Such clever and balanced spicing. One of the best restaurants in London right now. (I think the wine list could be improved though . It needs some more choice in the mid-price range ). Don’t hesitate. Go.
Absolutely fantastic food and service
Located in Fitzrovia, short walk from Goodge Street or Tottenham court tube stop a modern minimalistic deco in the restaurant with a fantastic chef table Welcoming service staff with wonderful views of the kitchen with ability to interact with the chef, Aji Akokomi. The short lunch menu which was four courses and good value for money the first course a chicken parfait top with truffles on a fried dumpling- beautiful dish with great amalgamation of flavours. The next course was blow Tocrched mackerel with moi moi with a vatapa concentrated sauce- another amazing dish. The main of lamb with Jollof rice was interesting. The rice is a combination of cooked rice with crispy rice and some greens on the top. The lamb was unfortunately a tad bit dry. I had an extra dish to the short menu which was an addition which was the ox tongue skewer with bone marrow sauce, which was again another excellent dish. The dessert of Uda ice cream which is a pod, rather smoky with a coffee mouse and chocolate base was again excellent. The petite four of the sesame seed triangle was amazing. The 15% service was deserving as service was very attentive and interactive and sitting sitting at the chef table made a wonderful experience. The Negroni with a twist, and the highball whiskey were both very good. The interior was very lovely, was quite peaceful with good interaction of the chefs at different stations, creating their courses which is highly entertaining and very insightful to most proving provided. Highly recommended and certainly will be returning and I hear there will be a menu change in March, so perhaps then.
Jaded palate? Look no further! Wow!
Recently I have become rather weary of paying high prices for very nice and pretty but ultimately forgettable food. This place has dragged me out of my doldrums :-) I am almost shocked at the level of delicious novelty in the flavours and presentation. Every dish was exceptional, each a new experience in taste. Mostly on the spicy side but never actually hot. I don't think I can convey much more about the individual dishes except that if they don't wow you with the first bite then the subtlety of the flavours will wow you as you prepare to take the next. My favourite for you to look forward to though was the jollof rice, some sort of inherited and legendary magical powers applied by the chef to create this explosion of savouriness and texture. Service with a smile, absolutely spot on. Definitely deserves a Michelin star, both for food and service. Will be back!
Great experience, brilliant service and food!
We were seated at the chef’s counter where we could see all the magic happen and it was magic indeed. Food was served beautifully, it was tasteful with just the right amount of spices. The wines we were recommended (1 white, 1 red, 1 sweet) went perfectly with the dishes. Service was excellent; shout out to Jordan, our waiter, who was very attentive and lovely throughout the evening. Great experience, 100% recommend.
A world of flavour
A short walk from the tube and a lovely, warm, stylish interior with a nice open kitchen where you can observe the head chef leading his team. Grand food, a ton of interesting flavours and a knowledgeable staff keen to share the stories of the food. Some very bold (the famous ox-tongue and liberal use of scotch bonnet elsewhere) whereas some had a lot more subtlety to it (the ayamase in particular had wonderful notes). Compared to many other restaurants in a similar class+location, the tasting menu still remains at a surprisingly low price point. For some it may sound silly talking about a £120 meal as "good value" but all things considered I think it delivers on that front. Between our group we had all three drinks pairings. Wine was a decent mix, the Akoko pairing had some twists on classic cocktails, some African wines (including a Moroccan), and a Nigerian Guinness (worth trying, strong and smooth). The soft pairing was great fun, particularly the smoked pineapple drink - if you're happy to forgo the booze for a bit I would definitely recommend the soft pairing the most. Honestly, the food I couldn't fault, but there were elements of the service I felt could have been tightened up. The drinks seemed to arrive up to ten minutes before the dish they were supposed to be paired with. I also felt the waiter was more pushy than I'd usually expect when trying to upsell the additional tatale course with the tasting menu (the tatale was decent, but I'd rather have it without the caviar and worked into the main tasting menu). One unfortunate issue is that after discussion it appeared the food had too much gluten in it for my coeliac wife (who can sometimes handle a little bit, but there's nuance). I'm not going to tell the chefs how to cook their cuisine, but being contacted about this to discuss it four days ahead of time, when I had booked about six weeks in advance and mentioned it wasn't great. Again, another fine fine point on the service that I hope they tighten up in future. Overall, I definitely think Akoko has a solid place on the London scene for years to come. The food is must-try and I'm super excited to see what else is going to come out of that kitchen.
A brilliant showcase
Unexpected but anticipated- remarkable!! One of the best dining experiences I have enjoyed. The attention to detail around flavours that are both familiar and new is delightful. The attendant wine pairing was bliss. All served by staff who matched their enthusiasm for what they brought with care for the customers- thank you espoused to Frank!
Incredible dining experience
I went with a friend for lunch but we opted for the full dinner menu. It has to be one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have both had. Incredible interesting food. Excellent friendly service. I particularly liked the Akoko pairings where it involved not just wine but also had cocktails and beers for some pairings. Cost a fortune but worth every penny. Would go again.

Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
